Flashback

A 1996 Dallas Observer article about then Wise County Attorney Stephen Hale who refused to prosecute marijuana cases. You've got to love this excerpt:
That's because Wise County has been a Democratic stronghold in countywide elections since Reconstruction, and "those damn Republicans don't have a chance up here," says Elaine Davis, Wise County Democratic chairwoman.
How time flies.

I love Elaine Davis. You could not meet a sweeter woman and a great Democrat.

Things started to go down hill as soon as Barry started practicing law ... Well so I have heard.

Link to article gices me "Not Found Error 404"

Is it just me, or is it because Al Franken was recently determined the winner, and the innerwebs have gone wonky?

Suck it Jar, DC, Ryan, yada yada.

I wish I had some input on this subject but I don't so let's talk about Banjo's....Um-kay?

Don't see much sense in dragging all this up again, especially about Elaine Davis. She had a different spin on things but nobody could accuse her of not being a good yellow dog Democrat.

Stephen Hale? I liked the guy.

Todd Durden?

God help us all. Wherever that guy is, I feel sorry for everybody.

Too bad the county didn't make enough money while he was in office.

Now that it is a Republican stronghold I can't see things have gotten any better. 1 day probation for DUI's. It seems most everything is plea bargained so we don't know what happens to all these people in jail for drugs and DUI's. Out of 21 pages of inmates I counted 47 in 10 pages that are in there for drugs or DUI's. It seems the consequences are too easy for the offenders.

Stephen Hale was the biggest hippie in the DA's office ever!! Did he even prosecute ANYTHING?? I know he had some very "riskay" pictures hanging on the walls in his office. NOT a PROFESSIONAL at all.

Some one said that Elaine Davis was so mean when she was the Democratic County Chair, no one would cross her!

Things have changed since 1996 when Democrats held all the county offices. Now only three Democrats hold offices in the county with all up for re-election in 2010.

According to a recent poll, the Democratic Party is too liberal. More voters declare themselves as Independent than Democrat or Republican.

Since the Democratic Party is leaning left, it will not win elections in a rural, conservative county.

I loved Stephen Hale and thought he did a great job helping clear the backlog that he was faced with when he took office. All you haters out there should just go smoke a joint and chill out. As Mick said, "It's no hanging matter, it's no capital crime".

Wise Co did not change its politics. It changed its registration. Rednecks are rednecks regardless of their registration.

With a little more maturity, the current republicans will start in-fighting just as the Dems did (see upcoming gov's race) and that will be a good thing. We need a choice,

Until then we will suffer the likes of Rick Perry, Phil King etc.

8:51 - not sure "riskay" pics and professionalism go hand in hand.

I'd sure call BG professional.

Check out today's pics of the half clad bunnies.

Hippety hop.

In Wise County, there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. They are both over-taxing politicians who rarely hold office over 1 or 2 terms since they can't quick raising taxes and spending money.

Oddly enough, they get elected by campaigning against higher taxes and for less spending; it doesn't last long!

Hale was the greatest CA ever...especially the time I got caught with a couple pounds of Primo Bud.

8:17, Let me put it this way, Hale's "riskay" pics would make Barry's look like Disney cartoons. Got the picture now? They were NOT pictures that should be hung on ANY office walls, unless one was in the porn business.......then, well... you know.

OH Lord, Stephen Hale decriminalized "pot" during the 1990's.

We would take people to jail in the City of Decatur for the offense of possession of "drug paraphernalia". Marihuana is always "contained" in a "source of containment", whether it be a plastic product, vehicle, clothing fabric, paper or even a freaking airplane. U went to jail for a night to see Judge Winfrey looking down at u @ 9:00 a.m.

Here is the reality of the situation-- your 17 year old sibling got arrested by Decatur P.D (aggressive- oh, 1990's) night shift and was charged for the container that possessed the "suspected substance". Judge will ask during arraignment for a plea, u say guilty as charged and a $233.00 fine was imposed for a "Class C fine".
Now, under DURDEN a charge was filed for the possession and officers spent COUNTLESS hours of over-time costs sitting and talking to each other on Mondays that cost their jusisdiction's alot of money. Pre-trial was a joke for 4 years and nothing was ever accomplished.
REALITY AGAIN, someone paid a fine or washed a fire truck on a Sunday to pay the fine, we were actually gaining money and time for a Class C.
and........ Barry was on the third floor of the courthouse saying this could work out for alot of people......... Just rememebering the "Good ole days'.
Why did u bring this up again? Remember the story about "Water under the Bridge".

Destroy orders were always recorded so that people can't say, "WE TOOK THERE DOPE AND SMOKED".

Chapter 13, we will be bigger than Buford Pusser in the 1970's, e-mail me. That book right is getting closer by the year....

LOVE for the Family and MZCHIEF (u are still a hot body).

Still want to know about about legal rep for "Book", can call Brock.
Attorney's made money too for s Class C violation, I think I bought Barry's lake lot and grass during Hale's term.
