Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • Did you see the video of the Duncanville city council member being escorted out of the room by police only to have a back injury? Drama. Queen.
  • It's the 30 year anniversary of the Wichita Falls killer tornado. It's the 30 year anniversary of me being awakened at night so I could seek shelter in my neighbor's storm cellar (in my underwear with a sheet wrapped around me.)
  • Fort Worth motorcycle death.
  • Garland motorcycle death.
  • Man, I like Fiona Gorostiza of Fox 4. They just don't have her on enough.
  • Chia Obama?
  • A Mexican restaurant in Paradise?
  • Mexican restaurants are the only type of restaurant that Wise County does very well.
  • I got got corrected on something yesterday that I can't believe I didn't know: It's silicon valley but silicone breast implants.
  • I refuse to get too excited about the Rangers.
  • I used to be a movie watching foolbut that stopped for some reason. But I've got Batman: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Step Brothers sitting on my DVD player. (I've already seen Batman but I want to watch it with subtitles, because I didn't understand a dang thing they were saying in theaters.)
  • I watched a guy get mad because a case got dismissed this week. He had received a 20 year sentence out of Wichita County but had a hot check misdemeanor pending in Wise County. Even though he was being offered time served, he demanded a jury trial so he could spend more time in the Wise County Jail and not get transferred to Huntsville. So the State simply dismissed the case. He was not happy.

This girl is re-enacting a pose made famous by Jessica Simpson on the cover of Rolling Stone several years back.......except Jessica Simpson was mostly in her underwear.

Humm 30 years ago you were a teenager in your underwear with a sheet in your neighbors storm celler. Why does this make me laugh?

Did you see that they have 2 face expressions for Chia Obama? LOL

The Itailian place in Bridgeport is good too! Its not fancy but it is really good.

What did he do to get the 20 year sentence?

You know your life has gone terribly wrong when you're shopping around for the best place in which to be incarcerated.

The 1979 Wichita Falls tornado killed 42 people. Wow! Must have been a horrible experience. I read that it was a mile wide. Geez, what a monster.

I'm guessing it was a Cat 5? Or were tornados even given 'catorgory' ratings then? Anyone know?

If I ever go to Wichita Falls, I now want to stop at the museum and watch the video they have about this event.

The Dark Knight -- overrated.
Step Brothers -- underrated.
Iron Man -- just right, for a Hollywood action movie.

Re: Mexican food in Paradise.

Human are hunter-gathers. Their appetite for high energy food is a natural thing. Darwin knew this. Cultures that are not far removed from the time that their ancestors chased deer through the forest tend to demand higher energy foods. Hence Mexicans (Aztecs), African Americans and American Indians eat more high energy foods. Problem is that technology has eliminated human muscle exertion but the appetite has not evolved. Therefore the closer the ethnic group is to their ancestral hunter-gatherer tribes the fatter they get. Go ahead and eat that Mexican junk and plug your arteries. If you are a hunter, you have already procreated and are ready to be eaten by a saber toothed tiger. It does not matter if your arteries are plugged with plaque, your life if over by the time you are 35 years old. The tiger can outrun humans. The slowest running human (35 years old with plugged arterise) who is bringing up the rear of the fleeing tribe gets eaten.

All said, leave the Mexican food to those who want an early death.

9:47- Hey tofu breath! Who wants to live past 35 years if you can't eat some real food?

947 - If you are what you eat, then I'm betting that your diet consists mainly of foods that are bitter and sour. Maybe lots of young tamarind? You sure exerted a lot of angry energy at Mexican food.

Plus, I'd be very interested to see whence came your theories on cultural obesity.

Darwin went ape over his theories. He was at best an idiot.

I hear your concern about the Rangers. The Cubs ripped my heart out and stomped on it last year. But, I must have faith - right?

Wordkyle, my mother died at age 90 due to bad medical care. My aunt is alive at age 95 and swims daily. My second cousin, a former Paris Vogue model is alive at age 97. I do not eat very much fat meat. That habit was passed down to me. I love vegetables. I hate lard. Note that there is a major supply of it at Walmarts in communities with a large Mexican population.

If you read Ambrose's "Undaunted Courage" about the voyage of Lewis and Clark you will get an idea what the hunter gathers that they met up with were eating. Can you imagine buffalo lard mixed with dried saskatoon berries? Volume wise it provided a lot of energy through the cold winters. When the tribe moved they could carry a lot calories per cubic foot of storage space. Lewis and Clark ate it. High energy, but arteries are plugged.

People will eat what they eat out of a desire that cannot be overcome with good medical advice. The natural instinct is too strong.

The number of Mexican food restaurants has increased along with the rate of morbid obesity in America.

I learned what I know from observing and taking a lot of biology classes in College. I observe lard on the shelves at Walmart and who buys it and their physical characteristics. I observe what is in the grocery cart of the fat person riding in the wheel chair who is in front of me at the check out line.

I'm telling you to try Go Go Gumbo in Boyd. By far the best in Wise County. Was there last week standing in line to be seated. In line were folks from Grapevine, Southlake and Trophy Club.

11:59 am...I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU! FOOD AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

1200 - Everyone in the pre-industrial age worked much harder physically than we do now. They all needed foods that provided lots of energy just to get through the day. I don't think it had anything to do with being a "hunter-gatherer." I also don't understand where you got the theory of "ethnic groups being closer to hunter-gatherer" (nor how you arrived at the conclusion that particular ethnic groups were closer) as a basis for their appetites today.

Food marketers and food science have made foods fattier and sweeter because that's where our tastes naturally lie. (That part of your argument I agree with.) We are also less physically active as a society. However, you seem to be tossing a racial element into it unnecessarily. You also contradict your own point by saying that not eating much meat is a "habit" that was passed on to you, while claiming that the "natural instinct" in others is too strong for them to change their own eating habits. Care to address this discrepancy?

You singled out Mexican restaurants, apparently to blame them for obesity. I bet that the number of health food restaurants has increased during that same time frame. Following your logic, does that not suggest that health food is to blame for obesity? Correlation does not mean causation. Again, you seem angry about the whole topic. Why does what other people eat bother you so?
