FLAG FLAP — There won’t be any Confederate flag flapping in the breeze over the Wise County Courthouse – but it will be displayed inside. That was the decision Monday by commissioners after hearing a request by Clyde McMurray of Bowie . . . . Commissioner Mikel Richardson supporting flying the flag and Commissioners Terry Ross and Robert Rankin opposing the request. Commissioner Kevin Burns suggested a historical display inside the courthouse with the flag and his idea passed unanimously.
I want the Republic of Texas flag displayed next. And then the Mexican flag. And then . . .

How does a person from Bowie have the status to make this request in Wise county? Is this imported "don't let the sun set" mentality? KKK still active in wise county?
Produce your flags if you have the intestinal fortitude.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans is far from the KKK. The comander-in-chief visited the camp once and told a story about how a man came up to him and said something very racial. The comander told him that if he thought this club was a racial group, then you had better leave. The Sons of Confederate Veterans are interested in the Civil War. Just like any other historical society. They remember those who fought and died FOR THE RIGHTS OF OUR STATES. not for slavery. two very different things. and the confederate flag does not represent a racial, or slavery matter, but a battle flag. and its not like you dont see the mexican flag flying everywhere. and is the confederate flag really going to offend anybody? for one day? You people just like to argue and try to disagree with everything. Notice i said "you people". nothing against, nothing gained.
I agree that Confederacy history is not just about race and slavery. In fact, I can't stand those who oppose flag displays and cite race as the reason for their opposition. However, the flags that fly outside our governmental buildings should be the current ones (state and national). I think the inside display was a good and proper solution.
So we should ask McMurray if the flag is flying on the grounds of the Montague County Courthouse.
Frankly, I think it would have been just as good to fly it at the Wise County Historical Museum - where lots of history exists about wars and such.
This brillant commissioner's court may have stirred up more mess.
Certainly they have a talent for that!
The reason that McMurry is having it flown,(or wanted it flown) in Wise, is because that he is the i think the captain of the SCV in Decatur. Montague county doesnt have a SCV club.
Is there not a Sons of German Vets or Japanese Vets--maybe they would want their flag flown over the court house. I agree with anon 5:46 the flags that fly over our governmental buildings should be the current one. We are the United States of America and to remove our flag to fly any other one is offense. If you want to fly any other one--put a pole in your yard and I won't care.
Cheers to the Collective Wisdom our County Commissioners !!!
Great Settlement to a Potentially Sticky "Politically Correct World" we live in ...
The Sons of Confederate Veterans is not a Racist Group, actually just the opposite.
I look forward to seeing the Flag :)
What anon 6 33 doesnt understand is that the wouldnt be taking the American flag down, but simply putting the Confederate flag under the state flag and the American flag. There is nothing offensive about that. I too will be looking forward to seeing to flag!
I say if we are going to fly the flag of a group that "didn't win", the A&M flag should fly next.
Ahem...The "Confederate States" took up arms against the UNITED STATES Of AMERICA due to the fact the "Confederate States" were unhappy with how they were being treated by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. When any person or group of people take up arms against their own country most frequently they are thought to be traitors, especially if they lose the war. The Civil War was a conflict fought by brave men on both sides who must have believed they were doing "right" thing.
The Civil War ended in 1865 and the Confederate States LOST! Since when does the "losing side" get to fly their flag over the lands of the victors?
Especially during this current time of war, I believe it is an unconscionable lapse in judgment and monumentally disrespectful to our troops fighting for democracy for any county regardless of how backwater to honour anyone or group who has taken up arms against their own nation.
