The Campaign For DA

2.29.2016

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • I say it every year: The Academy Awards show is a beating.
  • But a few weeks back I proclaimed Leo to be the greatest actor of this generation and now he gets his first Best Actor win. The Liberally Lean anti-curse continues.
  • Someone commented who represented themselves as a law enforcement officer and said they have "never" had a case referred to the DA's office with a request that it be sent to the grand jury where it did not happen. Tell me the county.
  • Super Tuesday is tomorrow and it can't get here quick enough. This could be historic. Trump!
  • I was going to go to the convention center on Friday to go watch him but had to get a free ticket. I went online and found out that it was sold out. I'm sure I could have gotten in but didn't want to go through a beating in case I couldn't.
  • Early voting is breaking records in Wise County and other Texas Counties. It is insane. Trump is going to win this thing.
  • I went to Home Depot and bought a mini fridge but found out I had trouble lifting it. I had to go get one of those low platform rollers from the garden department. When I went to the checkout counter, a very sweet clerk asked me if I needed help with it. For a guy who detests asking for help for anything, I had to concede, "Yes, I do." The disturbing part was the guy that helped me might have been older than me.
  • "SALT LAKE CITY –  A male who authorities say was wielding a broomstick was shot and critically injured by Salt Lake City officers Saturday night, touching off unrest downtown as officers donned riot gear and blocked streets and bystanders threw rocks and bottles." When Utah gets pissed, there's a problem.
  • Speaking of, Mrs. LL had me listed to two new episodes of This American Life regarding police conduct. They were fantastic and were right on point what I've been pointing out over the last two years. (I'll get the link.)
  • This weather has given rise to some weeds of biblical proportions.
  • Bridgeport's basketball team, the defending state champions with "the big three" (Edit: Just two ?) being back for a second season, being booted in the first second round is shocking. What went wrong?
  • Let me tell you, being on a kayak on the lake when the wind is not blowing is an experience that can only be described as glorious.
  • I had the dreaded "car won't start" and "call a tow truck" weekend. What a beat down. For you car experts, diagnose this for me: It will fire but it sounds like it is struggling to get gas. It will spend five seconds getting close and then peters out. That had happened several times over the last few weeks but eventually would fire up. When it did fire up, it ran like a charm. Clogged fuel filter?
  • I never watch an NBA game but even I can't avoid the sensational season of Steph Curry.
  • 'Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel hit up a Miami nightclub just 'hours' after Dallas police announced that his case would be decided by a grand jury." He's done.

I'm not so sure Donald Trump will win and if he does, he will have to build two walls. One at the Canadian border to keep us from escaping! Trump can't deliver and when he fails the anger and resentment will increase until real policies and reform are passed to help those left behind in this economy. The establishment republican party will be changed but what will fill the void? Trump isn't conservative but has followers outside the Republican party. Will his voters be welcomed? If elected in November, how will his bully tactics work in foreign policy. That is why so many think he is dangerous and a demogue.

I find it so funny that the Republicans had to put up with 8 years of Obama and now get stuck with Trump leading them into the next election. I can't wait to complain about every little nitpicking thing like all of the Commenters did on here for the last 8 years. Hahaha - suckas!

You think that's funny? Since the Socialists (Dems)have the corner on free everything and something for nothing...the party of personal responsibility is trying to find it's identity. Sadly there is no Reagan like moderate Republican out there today.

10:20 Karma caught them? They won the ultimate prize. They are state champions forever. They got beat. Only one team in the state in 4A will end their season in a different way, and it won't be Decatur. So if winning state is karma, then give me some of that!!!!! If losing in the playoffs the next year is the price, I'll happily pay it!!!!

Anonymous said...

They faced a pretty good team that had a great game plan. Slow the game down! The playoffs don't tolerate a bad game. Shot terrible, turned the ball over too much, and ultimately they weren't playing their best basketball at the right time. It happens.

Anonymous said...

10:54...Bridgeport kids didn't win state! All you idiots over there know that Bridgeport is a joke in Basketball! Brock and Ponder just got beat out of the playoffs by the same kind of team that Bridgeport had, two or three kids that could careless about your town or losing tradition. Yea you have a banner but everyone in the entire city, county, area, region and State knows that it was a one time deal. Decatur has their own kids and they're still in the playoffs! It doesn't matter if they win state because they've already done more for their town and school than any rented kids could.

What I find disturbing is the hate that comes from Decatur over the Bridgeport Basketball team. To those that feel they have to make such comments, are you that insecure in yourselves that you have to make snide remarks about teenagers? Let's be honest. Decatur owns Bridgeport in basketball. They have for a long time. But for two years, Bridgeport had the better team and instead of tipping your hat to them you have to talk trash. The "big 3" that you talk about were not recruited. They moved here of their own volition and became a part of Bridgeport. Every single player on Bridgeport lives in our district. Decatur is the team that has transfers from other towns and yet you have the gall to call our boys "rent-a-players"? These boys are 100% Bridgeport. Bridgeport's season ends because they had a bad game against a hot team. That should make all you haters feel better. Young men from the county you live in lost a difficult basketball game and instead of giving them props for a good couple of seasons you have to get in your jabs at their expense. Wow! I am proud of our Bridgeport Bulls...every single one of them. Decatur has a good basketball team and I hope they do well tomorrow night against Wylie. Decatur even has good fans for the most part. But it's the insecure ones who can't stand it when something good happens in Bridgeport that reflects badly on Decatur fandom as a whole. GO BULLS!

Anonymous said...

Goodness, 11:09 AM, turn down the hate flame. We, in Bridgeport, celebrate Decatur's hard-earned victory.

Anonymous said...

11:09...Bridgeport kids did win state. They live in Bridgeport. They go to school in Bridgeport. They are involved in Bridgeport. They love Bridgeport. They are Bridgeport kids. But you go ahead and discount them and say our title doesn't count if that's what makes you sleep at night. By the way, it's Decatur that has the kids that don't live there. You all seem to forget that, don't you? Most state titles are a one time deal. Very few teams have the privilege of saying they are state champs. It is a difficult road. In fact, one that Decatur Basketball has never seen the end of. Bridgeport has and that's what has you soooooooo jealous. You say it doesn't matter if Decatur wins state because you know that after Tuesday you're done.

I could care less about either basketball team, but you Bridgeport chest pounders have got to admit there is a difference in imports and transfers. Research will tell you that the boys were specifically recruited and professionally trained to play basketball for Hawks. Why they picked BP was most likely one of the only ones desperate enough for a title to skirt around the rules and get them in. Likely Hawks is already searching the nation for his next project. I'm not dissing the boys by the way. They are just pawns for a bunch of desperate adults needing false assurances.

Anonymous said...

As a parent of kids that currently attend Decatur, the Bridgeport team has been a lot of fun to watch play. The team is EVEN made up of some great kids. They played hard for their school. The decatur team is equally exciting to watch, and their coach is top notch. (Although some of the decatur parents don't like him cuz he's tough, which is ironic, cuz that's what it takes)
Not all blow hards represent a city or its citizens. Most of the fighting and bickering in Wise county between the towns is usually carried out by people that peaked in High School, and still live within 5 miles of where they grew up. What's sad to them is that after the kiddos in Bridgeport and Decatur finish their tenure in high school, they'll be off to become productive adults. The immature "adults" of Wise county will continue their charge of shopping at wal-mart and hanging truck-nuts from their vehicles.

I am a Decaturite, but I wasn't routing against the Bulls and thought that run was great for the community. Those boys seem like good kids and what that family has done for all of them is amazing. But for so many of you Bridgeport die hards to compare the whole situation to a random move-in from Alvord, come on now. If you think it was only a Decatur group upset with the whole situation last year, wrong again. I tried to explain the situation to my kids after the Bridgeport senior night this year, and it was pretty dang tough for them to grasp. In the end, they didn't break any rules, so whatever, congrats on the banner. Don't be ignorant and compare it to the local move-ins from the county, that's just stupid.

1:53 - For someone who doesn't care about either basketball team, you have some pretty strong opinions. By the way, these boys as well as Mr. Hawks live IN BRIDGEPORT. And nobody skirted any rules. Everything was done above board.

Anonymous said...

1:53

Actually, there is a difference between imports and transfers.

One of the reasons the UIL was created was to govern this specific activity. Back in the day, it was not uncommon for companies to transfer employees to a specific town so their sons could play football for the local high school team. Phillips, TX, which at one time had the largest inland oil refinery in the world, is a prime example of this kind of behavior. Phillips 66 which owned the plant would transfer employees to Phillips TX if they had a kid that was a really good football player. They basically built a football program thru the company.

"Hey, we need a better left guard. Who has a son that can play left guard and let's get them transferred to Phillips ASAP!" Phillips would transfer the parent, the kid would enroll in high school and the team would have the left guard they needed.

Gambling on high school games was big business in the 30's and 40's(and still is today if the truth be told), so companies would build their own teams, thru the high school route, and then play each other. You have to remember this was a long time ago and setting up "match games" between schools was not uncommon because there was no governing body at the time.

Could be the framulator valve. We would need to do a 21 point inspection, lower the dipso, then replace the gas lines, gas tank, and engine. Then we would seal all the duct-work & winterize the rear-end. After that the framulator valve should work fine and your car will run like a top. We have an opening in garage Wednesday.

Once again. These boys were picked, recruited or purchased (you pick whichever one you want) to be professionally trained to play basketball to feed the egos of a bunch of adults. It can most certainly be guaranteed that there is a lot of money involved in this type of thing somewhere. Is this the only group doing this? Probably not. Is this putting down the kids? Absolutely not! I'm just drawing attention to a system that allows a bunch of pathetic grown-ups (?) to live vicariously through the accomplishments of the kids.

Anonymous said...

From what I understand, Bridgeport does not have enough money to entice the kids to their school system. I believe they moved there of their own choice. No one recruited them, they recruited Bridgeport. After Decatur turned them down.

The reason Fitz, Hicks, Hickey, et al are where they are is because some honest Alvord folks challenged Hale, Wilson, Trice & Chaney and told them the days of athletics first and mediocre academics was over. That's when the folks in question bailed. Then the damn Yankee decided to take over hiring coaches and running the athletic dept., so they don't send anyone in track or cross country passed district, and its one and done for the girls BB team. Now the damn Yankee and his three idiots have taken over the high school and run off more competent teachers than most 2A schools ever get to hire. Remember Hunt, two Nivens, Peek, Ruether,(we now have the last two in Decatur) and the great AG teacher/program they had? Give this bunch one more year with the election of two more of the Yankees hand picked idiots and that school will have come full circle. Then maybe all those "move ins" in Decatur will go back to Alvord where they came from. Glad I moved my three kids to a private school.

Bridgeport is a the armpit of the County! Who wants a turd color for their school colors?? Bridgeport does!!

Anonymous said...

At the Bulls senior night, I noticed when all those kids were introduced that they all had their own biological parents there along with Hawk. So, what was the status of these kids: adopted, foster, what? If they have their own living parents, why are they not living with them? Have the parents lost or surrendered their parental rights? And how did DP get approved for a 5th year of eligibility? Anyone know the answers to these questions?

Anonymous said...

I'm a graduate of Bridgeport High School. My son attends BHS, but does not play basketball. What we let happen with these kids moving here is wrong. They didn't break the rules. They just skirted them. Yes we won a title, but not one BPort kid scored in that game. It was pathetic. This town will feel the affects of that title for the next generation. It gave the young boys a false sense of what they can actually accomplish. A large group of 3-5 grade boys have started playing only basketball. This is Bridgeport for GD sakes. We are not a basketball town. We will never be a basketball town.
The Adults in Bridgeport that treat these kids as GODS make me sick. How about you support the true BPort kids like you support the rent a players.
Decatur people are right. The senior night game was a disgrace. Watching those boys walk out there with their real parents (who all seemed capable of taking care of their own kids) and the Hawks walking each one out made me want to puke!!!
That night summed up everything that is, was and has been wrong with this whole situation.

10:04 is 1000% right. Sorry but he is. Not a Bridgeport Parent nor a Decatur Parent. Just an outsider seeing it the way it is. It will be embarrassing to see how bad Bridgeport is next year. And I doubt the stands will be as packed as they have been these two years.

Anonymous said...

10:24 I support the few kids on the team who are from Bridgeport. I'm just glad all of this is over. The next two years will bring back the reality that is Bport basketball. We don't stand a chance in that new district with Argyle, Decatur, sanger, Krum and Gainesville.
The UIl will never allow this to happen again. Watching people in the stands swoon over Hawks and those boys is embarrassing. That man will find a new toy soon, and I hope he finds somewhere else to play with it.

10:04 Regarding Senior night. Did you not see Ethan stand there by himself until finally a lady with a small child walked out there. No male parent. Did you notice that there was a male that walked out there with Devonte, but no female parent? But did you notice that it was Keenan's dad who walked out with Devonte after he walked out with Keenan and returned to walk out with Devonte. You people do not know jack about this situation.

Further, you didn't "let anything happen". These people are free to move where ever the hell they want to.

Also, check the box score on that title game. You would be correct if you are referring to the semi-final. You can't even get that simple fact correct.

I'm tired of everybody in Bport saying the same thing, "You just don't know the whole story or the situation". Bull Crap. Hawks, meets these kids at several tournaments, he invites them plus a few more to be on a travel team. Hawks ask them all to be "apart of the family". Those four boys and their parents except Hawks offer. End of story!!!

Not knowing Devonte's past, he might actually be the only true charity case in the whole group.
