Stop A Legal Gathering On Private Property By Shutting Down Public Road?

Links.

Amazing. I'm going to guess that the commissioners and sheriff of Palo Pinto County are very conservative.  I'm also guessing they aren't very bright.

The Sheriff actually said, "We will be on both ends of it with armed security, We will have other contingency plans ready in the event a large number of them do show up."

Freedom Of Assembly? What's That Mean?

Edit: And I would tap the brakes on the reports that the biker club "agreed" to cancel the event. It's that Sheriff who said that and in other reports he was quite as definitive: "I believe I have prevailed upon their national leadership to call this rally off."

Edit: And I thought the Sheriff had been in the news before . . .

Does any of that really matter since the groups involved decided to cancel the event?

You really are a piece of work, Green. If you had been around in the 20's you would have been up in arms over the unfair treatment of Capone and his gang by law enforcement.

Can you really stop a land owner from using a public road to get to their property? Now, you might want to guard the road to prevent any Bandidos from rolling up.

What's is Mercer's phone number? I think I just found the solution to that dang family reunion I was shamed into hosting this weekend.

He should put out the welcome signs and let all of them come to the event! Then lock the gates behind them and return Monday with body bags.

Doesn't seem legal to block someone from their private property.

I think the sheriff said exactly what you are saying. They will allow land owners access, and only block the bikers. I think that the Constitutional question is whether the govt., at any level, can prevent peaceable assembly. Do you want an agent of the govt. to have the authority to say to any US citizen "No, you can't gather in a public or private place, and you can't use a public road to gain access to a private place, because I think you might commit crime or fight or whatever."?

Let's see, if they allow the event and another shooting takes place you'd be crying about how the police should have stopped the event. We all know you would. Liberals rarely take a stance or give a solution.

But if it was a KKK event they would welcome themnwith open arms.

Why so many people are willing to give up other people's rights is amazing to me. Don't you realize that when you allow the government to infringe on anyone's rights, it is just a matter of time before they start to infringe upon YOUR rights too.

Don't be so quick to allow the government to do what ever they want in the name of safety. Eventually that safety will become necessary in every possible situation.

Get used to seeing armored vehicles and armed soldiers on our city streets.

Is that Roy T. Mercer?

That's Roy D. Mercer, dipwad.

If he can do that whats next? He could deny members of the First Baptist Church access to their church because one of them may be a fornicator or god forbid an adulterer.

You morons that are okay with this are the same reason we got The Patriot Act. "If you ain't got nuthin' to hide then why does it matter of the guy'ment spies on you!" Forest for the trees, folks. Forest for the trees.

And if they let them in and everyone kills each other, then there's screaming that "you knew about it and should have done something". Today, the only people that can not be blamed for actions are the people doing the action. It's the police, it's the restaurant; it's everyone's fault except the ones whose fault it is. Besides, why would they even need roads in that county. Haven't the evil police shot everyone there yet, like they have elsewhere? How is there anyone still even on this blog? Or commenting? Why have I not been killed yet by roving gangs of cops? Amazing.

It's awful to watch "blame" and "fault" replace "personal responsibility."

I wonder what would happen if it was an all black bike rally?

You either support the Patriot Act or you support the terrorists.

I worked with Ira Mercer when I was in the Highway Patrol in Palo Pinto county. The guy is an absolute moron. I got to where I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him if something was going on because you never knew how the idiot was going to respond to a situation.

Where's ol Leroy Burch when we need him.

Most elected officials are absolute morons.

And if you don't believe 4:27 all you have to do is look at the people elected to the school boards in Alvord and Chico, particularly Alvord. One of our teachers was telling us today how she is getting phone calls from the home builder board member telling her not to take a better job in another school district. Calling them morons is a compliment.

That sheriff looks like an inbred jerkwad.
