The Campaign For DA

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • In between breaks at The Ticket in the morning, I jump over to WBAP or 660AM. So what did I hear today in light of Ferguson?  WBAP's Hal Jay said that there will "never" be "mutual respect" between races, and Mark Davis said that St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher was "idiotic" and "moronic" for not disciplining his players for doing a "hands up, don't shoot" sign last Sunday. It made me feel like I listening to a secret Klan rally in code.
  • White, privileged people over 50 having hot opinions about how black people "need to act" probably might want to throttle it back a bit.
  • Mrs. LL claimed last night that I took her to Taco Cabana on "date night" a few years back.  I'm worried she might be right. Side note: Taco Cabana is not that bad.
  • The Elf on the Shelf decided to toilet paper the Christmas Tree last night.
  • "Police say Austin shooter McQuilliams was in a violent white Christian terrorist movement, the Phineas Priesthood.' (Credit: Bud Kennedy).
  • A GOP staffer was forced to resign after criticizing the President's children appearance during a photo op. She said they showed a lack of “class” and dressing as if they were angling for a “spot at a bar”. The staffer, by the way, was once arrested for larceny during her own “awful teen years.”
  • Anyone see Bruce Springsteen fill in for Bono as U2 performed two songs in Times Square last night on ESPN? The guy needs to slow down his cadence. I thought I saw The Edge trying to reel him in and Mrs. LL later confirmed it. #AmIAlsoAMusicGenious?
  • Sports: (1) Either Baylor or TCU will get into the final four. But for the life of me, I don't know which one. (2) The Big 12's "One True Champion" motto, which they have been promoting since the summer, is embarrassing considering the conference will not take a position if Baylor and TCU win out. (3) Odd twist of events: What if Baylor beats K-State with a backup quarterback? Does that launch them into the Final Four because they accomplished that without Bryce Petty? (3A) Everyone is dogging Baylor this morning for hiring a PR firm for this final football regular season week. Why?  It's just advertising your brand. (4) My seven wins or less for the Cowboys was probably closer than what I originally believed. (5) Tried to watch Mark Cuban on Real Sports while everyone was still awake but the classless guy kept dropping F Bombs. But at least I got to see them make fun of him for doing pre-game press conferences on a Stair Master.
  • Cuban, by the way, is doing "Low-T" radio commercials these days. My snake oil theory has been confirmed beyond my wildest dreams.
  • A 15 year old from Chico is mentioned today in the Update's obits. Did I miss something?
  • I'm always stunned that out-of-town-lawyers have animated and loud conversations with their clients in the hallways of the Wise County Courthouse. And I do a lot of eye-rolling when I hear the substance of those conversations.
  • I had forgotten that the JP on trial for murdering two prosecutors and one of their wives was a disbarred lawyer

Barry, regarding the low-T.
Perception is relative to one's standing.
Ask Mrs. LL for your testicles to be returned at once from her purse.

The 15 yr old was born with cerebral palsy and had a lot of health issues. He was not expected to live to age 8. He was a very loving child and will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of being a part of his life.

Race relations would improve if we label people by their character and not by their color.
And in other news, Midland cops shot and killed a man last night. His hands were up too. Only thing is, he had a machettee in one of them and had struck an officer.

White, privileged people over 50 are so racist for expecting black people to obey the law (sarcasm).

Say, BG, ever hear of the soft bigotry of low expectations?

Or are you just another white guilt liberal with rectal cranial inversion?

"Christian" extremist, "Muslim" extremist - let's cut the BS and call them what they are: extremists. Doesn't matter what flavor you choose in an attempt to justify your homicidal tendencies, if you want to kill lots of people and/or create chaos, you're a psychopath, not a "Christian" or "Muslim."

True Christians decry the acts of this guy in Austin just as much as true Muslims decry the acts of the extremists supposedly committing acts in the name of Allah.

Did you know Micheal Brown lived with his paternal grandmother. Did you know his his "burn this bitch down" step-dad is not married to his mother and is recently released from prison and is a card carrying member of the bloods gang. Did you know Michael's mother is under investigation for beating up the paternal grandmother.

Maybe black people over 50 should throttle up their comments about their own dysfunction. Of course it's all due to slavery and LBJ.

Regardless of color or age, simply obey the law; don't steal.

I'm white, nearing 50 and while I wouldn't say privileged I get your point. However, I was taught to respect or at least obey police. Say yes sir, no sir. Keep your hands where you can see them , don't get loud etc. I was taught that cops have a tough, scary job and you shouldn't do something to escalate an already tense situation. I've known good cops, actually great cops and I've seen plenty of bad ones.
Even been on the receiving end of some unfair behavior(I'm looking at you Kay County Oklahoma Sheriff's dept). But basically everyone wants to go home to their families at the end of the day. Parents need to teach their kids how to have some respect and common sense.

No mention of our new-record setting national debt?

$18 trillion. That's up 70% (8 trillion) from when the president took office.

That's 103% of the GDP. Nothing says "fiscally responsible" like a democrat in office.

Surely providing welfare benefits to an additional 5 million people is going to help that, right?

If a black man walks down a street in Highland Park after dark he has a good chance of being stopped by the police. If a white man walks down the a street in south Dallas after dark he has a good chance of being robbed or killed. Just the facts.

Holder's definition of Racial Profiling: "Police stop and questioning black youth fitting the description of someone who has just robbed a convenience store". He believes black and whites should be stopped in equal numbers in this situation rather than on the victim's description of the assailant's skin color.

Perhaps dispatchers should ignore and hang up on 911 callers who give the race or skin color of someone they just saw commit a crime.

There have been no sales in the last month of existing homes offered for sale in Ferguson. I guess blacks don't want to live in the environment that their children created.

I lived in a midwestern city for a while.

During that time, there was a lot of discussion about police picking on minorities.

It went like this:

A. 65% of city arrests are in the minority sections of town."

B. "Yeah, but 85% of police street patrols are in the minority parts of town! Even with being focused upon, minorities are therefore UNDERREPRESENTED in arrests."

C. "Yeah, but the reason that all the cops are patrolling there is because that's where all the crime is going on."

D. And so on.

At that point, I realized that there wasn't likely to be a constructive argument about race in my lifetime.

I'll agree that Taco Cabana is not that bad. But if you're passing up a Taco Bueno or the aforementioned Rosa's to go to Cabana, you're doing it wrong.

Perhaps those who are "privileged" -- say, for example, attorneys who grew up in financially fortunate families and parlayed that into their own financially fortunate position -- should throttle back their hot opinions of how someone less privileged, of any color, ought to act. Class envy trumps racial envy, counselor.

I only caught the tail end of U2/Springsteen last night singing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". Now, he was probably doing that in tribute to poor Bono, who's laid up somewhere while recuperating, and it was for some charitable cause, but...it sounded to me like what he was looking for was the key that song is supposed to be sung in! I know it's a live audience and there's feedback and stuff, but if the Edge can hit the right notes under those conditions, then a pro like the Boss should be able to

I meet only two of your conditions for not having hot opinions. How far back do I need to let off the throttle?

So there's no Atticus Finch-types roaming the courthouse hallways in our fair burg? And if you're not seeing that behavior in other counties, maybe that says something about the clientele they're encountering here

Anonymous said...

I have an idea they want reperations so lets pull all the white folks out of Detroit and let them have whats left of it and see how that works out for them! We do things for them like name streets after MLK and what do they do they make it the worst street in the city you could put it in the middle of a country club and they would still make it the hood! I have had a run in with a bad cop or two here in Wise county and instead of causing a problem I was respectful done what was asked and then when and seen their Sgt. and Capt. and filed a complaint the next day not tried to fight them and I'll be damned if they were not disciplined for their actions and I received an apology from the S.O. and the officer both times!

Anonymous said...

Katy, maybe you should go back to elementary school and do a repeat of their arithmetic classes. If 90% of the calls to dispatchers come from minority neighborhoods then you will find 90% of the cops in those neighborhoods. Take a look at this "Color of Crime: Chicago".

http://www.occidentaldissent.com/2011/06/15/the-color-of-crime-chicago/

The concentration of cops in black neighborhoods and the resulting high arrest rates are based on calls from black neighborhoods to dispatchers. And most of these calls come from black citizens.

Critical comments about any President's children is just unacceptable. I will never forget Rush Limbaugh's inexcusable comment about Chelsea Clinton - and she was only twelve years old at that time. He called her a "lap dog".

Freedom of speech should have a bit of courtesy.

Is it any wonder we have so much bullying in this country?

Anonymous said...

The solution to racial profiling is to put a quota on the number of calls that 911 dispatchers can take from minority neighborhoods.

A GOP staffer was forced to resign after criticizing the president's children at a photo op. The mainstream media went beserk over it. Yet when it was reported by FOX that one of Obammy's campaign bundlers and LGBT activist who visited the White House several times, was arrested for raping a 15 year old boy, Crickets.

White, privileged people over 50 having hot opinions about how black people "need to act" probably might want to throttle it back a bit.

What an idiotic statement! No wonder you are a Democrat!

How dare these "white privileged people over 50" have the nerve to expect black people to not rob stores and commit crimes and also to respect police officers when they ask them to do so. Guess they must be racist for expecting that.

As someone else mentioned, you have Michael Brown raised by his grandmother. His parents did not get involved in his life until they found out that they could make money from his death. They actually fought his grandmother over who could sell shirts memorializing Brown.

White, privileged people over 50 having hot opinions about how black people "need to act" probably might want to throttle it back a bit.

I presume that was thrown in for the kneejerk reaction. Since pretty much everyone on this blog falls under the category "white privileged" and probably a lot are also over 50, you had to know what you were asking for.

Unfortunately most of them don't recognize that they are privileged. They think privilege has something to do with having wealth or an easy time of it. The thing is, compared to folks like those in Ferguson, everyone on this blog does have wealth and an easy time of it. Working diligently for promotions and saving for retirement isn't the same thing as hoping to make it to school and back without getting robbed, beaten, or killed. Working a second job for a nice car or a vacation is not the same thing as not having enough food to feed your children. The people we're talking about--what most of the commenters here refer to as "those people" or worse--didn't ask to be born black or poor, no more than any of us asked to be born white and financially comfortable. But because of their circumstances many of them will never be financially comfortable, and will never be capable of becoming financially comfortable. No amount of "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality will work for most of them. And what people here don't get is that the people here CAN'T ever get it. We don't understand what it's like to be born into that lifestyle, we don't understand what it's like to live in that environment, so it's pretty presumptuous of anyone here to make value statements about their actions or reactions or anyone else.

Imagine if one of "those people" tried to tell the people here what they should or shouldn't do...

People of any color in ghettos, surrounded by people who drag them down if they try to better themselves, taught by their leaders that other people are intent on keeping them down, rarely get the idea that they can take actions to improve their lives.

Unlike goldfish, people have the opportunity to move, to change who they associate with, to listen to better advice. They don't take action to improve their lives because their own culture -- not some oppressive "They" -- keeps them down.

Barry is right. Privileged whites over 50 have taken away a valuable quality from the chronic poor...it's called incentive. Shame on those white guys. Food, housing, child support and healthcare is guaranteed. It's a terrible fate.

Of course the progressives believe that is not enough. It needs to be better food, housing, child support and healthcare.

I come from white trash. Started working at age 11. Have been employed since age 11. Every decision was made based on fear of starvation. Went to college, paid for it myself all based on fear of starvation. Have a professional career for 30+ years.

So all you progressives will do is make fun of me for what I have accomplished.

I had no priviledge at all growing up. NONE.
Somehow I acted on a sense of personal responsibility. Progressives don't believe in that.

You disgust me Barry. You say things with no responsibility. You have the right to say what ever you like. What you say is irresponsible though. You just add fuel to the fire. You add no value.

Skippybugger,

Along with others, I would appreciate your definition of "white privilege".

If you mean the culture or environment that citizens of my community established, then I can see that. I am privileged to have been raised in a community with values, that also taught me values and morals.

If you mean being born into a two parent household, I can see that. I had two loving parents that raised me to be a productive citizen.

The thing is, black citizens can establish the community they wish, good or bad. They can also move into really good, affordable communities, if their current situation is untenable. They can also have children in a loving household, with two parents, rather than bearing kids just to raise their welfare payments.

Many blacks have chosen a life of "black self destruction". If the community wishes, they could change to a state of "black privilege".

Since the time of LBJ, the US has spent TRILLIONS of dollars on welfare. It has helped a small percentage of people, that used it correctly, and destroyed a larger percentage of the populace, including a majority of blacks.

Liberals should be ashamed.
