- I don't know why I've been following this news but: Dallas filmed Lone Star was finally/actually cancelled after two episodes.
- Sent to me yesterday: "The wrong way to test an air bag."
- Give kids a bunch of oversized chalk and my driveway looks like a drunk Picasso got turned loose on it.
- You're about to see two college football bullet points.
- Saturday's football schedule: Baylor at 11:00, OU/Tex at 2:30, Oregon/Stanford and Alabama/Florida at 700. Will I sit there and watch it all day? Not a chance. But a man can dream.
- Little UAB went to U. of Tennessee on Saturday and took them into overtime. Which is (kind of ) amazing because UAB's kicker missed five (!!!) field goal attempts during regulation. So in the first overtime, Tennessee kicks a field goal and then, after UAB fails to score a touchdown, finds itself facing a fourth down. Do you send that college kid out to try a sixth kick in front of 100,000 hostile people? Yep, you do. He made it. (They still eventually lost the game, but my heart was so rooting for that kid.)
- A phrase you don't hear much anymore: "He thinks he's God's gift to women."
- A deaf guy was exonerated yesterday in Dallas and D.A. Craig
WatsonWatkins was there to meet him and say a few words as he walked out of the jail. I'm shocked, absolutely shocked, thatWatsonWatkins couldn't have a private moment with the guy in any place other than on the public sidewalk in front of cameras. Edit: Sheesh on the name. - Worst tattoo customer ever.
- Hey, now.
- Summer vacation plans anyone? I want to go somewhere not hot which has a combination of notable urban and/or historical things to see but within a quick jaunt to hiking and nature areas. Seattle? San Francisco?
- Britney was on Glee last night and I didn't watch it. I promise.
- Had a local lawyer tell me that he was at a horse race track last weekend and saw a jockey get killed right in front of his eyes. His kid just happen to be in the bathroom when it happened.
- The Dez Bryant "$54.896 restaurant tab" story seems a little suspicious. (ESPN reported it yesterday on a blog post and then it took off.) I want to see the bill.
- And as I told the Mrs this morning, "That's one of the reason I don't like the NFL. We want to cheer for those guys?"
- This has been in the Update for the second day: "ALUMNI MEETING – Eastside Alumni will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the home of . . . . " Uh, who are the "Eastside Alumni"? Edit: A commenter says it is for those that attended a segregated school on the east side of Decatur before desegregation. Really? Where was it?

An overall impression after the last several weeks of posts: Married life has mellowed you considerably, counselor. (And that's a good thing.)
San Francisco or Seattle - both excellent choices. Those are my 2 favorite vacation destinations ever. And I've only been to each once. I really need to go back.
San Fran has unbelievably beautiful drives on the Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy. 1)to the north or south of the city.
Seattle has Mt. Ranier nearby. Seattle also has Rock N Roll Marathon in June. 1 band for every mile.
Eastside Alumni are those who attended the all-black school located in the eastern part of Dectur prior to desegregation.
San Francisco - Muir Woods. Amazing. About 20-30 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Check out my Facebook album of my elopement to Seattle and Vancouver. Fly into Seattle for cheap, take the Amtrak to Vancouver for $60 roundtrip. Spend a week in both. Great weather.
Barry, You were kind of ragging on the Rangers the other day for their AL West Champ shirts. I just want to point out that the shirts the Rays were sporting after their win last night just said "playoffs" because they clinched a spot, but still don't know who the division champ is...and both the Rays and the Yankees celebrated a "playoff birth" last night.
Okay, so you didn't watch Glee, but...did you record it to watch later? If not, then marriage really has changed you
I can believe a pro football team could run up a $54k tab. Especially if they're trying to stick it to one guy. A big old steak, a bottle of wine each...yeah. But I gotta agree with a commenter from the website - why not donate that amount of money to a local food bank? Then maybe you could tell the Mrs that you're proud to cheer for those guys
So, the lawyer's kid disappears and says he was in the bathroom when the jockey got kilt. Coincidence? Hmmmmm...
Wonder what Dick Francis would have to say about that? (I mean, if he was still alive)
Nice natural pic today, not like the semi-skanky "Hey now"
Ags win, sips lose, bubears tie...book it!
Brownwood High plays Ft Worth All Saints at Jerry World on Thursday. Expected sell out. One side of the stadium will be dressed in camouflage and the other side dressed in chanel.

The black school was across the railroad tracks, still an all-black section of Decatur. The kids attended a one-room school house which is still there on the road going from Allsups to join with 380. It's west of the vet clinic there. Mrs. Westbrook was the teacher, and when we integrated the schools here I was in elementary and Mrs. Westbrook joined our staff at Decatur Elem. as the only black teacher. She taught history and was the librarian there and was a wonderful and warm woman. I had one black child in my entire class of sixty-something kids, as did most of the classes. They joined us with minimal turmoil, integrated, and life moved smoothly on here in Wise Co. I remember it well.
playoff birth?
that means somebody had a kid during the playoffs
You kidding me? Playoffs?!

agree with the commenter re Muir Woods in SF. truly amazing.
SF is also a great place to walk around. see chinatown, the wharf, get some incredible seafood, great architecture, really cool shopping areas, etc etc. much like nyc, you could stay there for a solid week and not see half of everything you ought to see.
Would definitely do Seattle. You can do the Vancouver train trip for a side, take the ship to Victoria, B.C. which is gorgeous and perfect weather. Drive to the coast and enjoy the seashore, drive up in the mountains to the little bavarian village town (can't remember the name right now). I've been there in July a couple of times and only had one day of rain in both trips.
Not sure who Craig Watson is, but I bet Dallas D.A. Craig WATKINS would have liked a moment alone with the exonerated man.

Another good day Barry boy. Looks like you have finally got your stride back after taking the death march.
A-
But you like college football...because those guys are NOT aspiring to be in the NFL? A little hypocritical...
Go to San Francisco. There's the wharf and the jelly belly factory.
I wonder if them girls would like to play Wild Kingdom where they roar like Lioness and I throw the meat to'em.
Asheville, NC:
Asheville which is very eclectic, very liberal leaning. You got the Biltmore house, lots of local artisans, etc. Then you have the mountains and the blue ridge parkway. More miles then you can imagine to hike, more waterfalls then you could imagine to view. The appalachian trail comes through here, if you like the outdoors you would love it here.
Get thee to Napa Valley
BG, Are you aware that your "hey now" link goes to a porn page?
Go to Lahe Tahoe,
Some cute young chic pics today...
9:27, I remember Mrs. Westbrook. She was a great person. I had her for a teacher/librarian in the 6th grade in Decatur. Of course all the kids were afraid of her because she carried "sweet pea!" Do you remember "sweet pea?"
San Fran, all the way. Stay at the Mark Hopkins on Knob Hill, everything is downhill from there, literally, you'll understand what I mean once you've been there. Take a cab back uphill, they are cheap and your hammies will thank you.
Tons of great food, especially seafood, and natural beauty. Take a day trip to Napa/Sonoma valleys. If you have time, do Monterrey Peninsula, where Pebble Beach is. The Hearst mansion is out there too.
Come see me. I could use some tips from a football savant like you.

go to AA.com and buy the cheapest tickets outside of the 4 contiguous states then reserve a rental car. when you get there, just start driving. if you end up at a different airport than you started at and the rental car guy gives you some sht for returning the car at a different location, just tell him to fck off and cancel the credit card they have on file. be sure to use the rental car company you dont normally use.
3:42, No I don't remember "sweet pea" but I had her in the 6th grade, too, so I guess we are classmates! She was a wonderful lady.
I'm with the travelers citing Seattle/Vancouver/Victoria/Mt. Rainier and the "Bavarian" town of Leavenworth Wa. Road touring is great and hiking, biking, and ferry boat riding everywhere.
9:29... "Sweet Pea" was her paddle! LOL!! BIG paddle! When she came into a classroom she would put it right up on the desk for all to see. Left it on her desk in the library too. NEVER saw her use it. I think Sweet Pea's presence along with Mrs. Westbrook's size was enough to keep everyone in line! :-)
Good memories!
