Last weekend I was PO'd that the Dallas Morning News had printed the picture of a young woman arrested for DWI in connection with a story about DWI enforcement in general. Today there are three letters to the editor echoing my thoughts.

Amazingly, in the hard copy of the paper, the Morning News ran her picture and her name AGAIN above the three letter.

I'm with you on this one B...suspected is one thing, convicted is another. Funny how the same people outraged at the outrage are the same ones that probably demand their privacy in every sense of the word.
Although I agree it is a ludicrous thing, I must admit I'm wondering if those three letter writers are lawyers using pseudonyms hoping to get a chance to represent her.
HFJC, Barry, you can do a better job with your spelling in your posts.....you just have to calm down, or pull over while driving and blogging........or else, have your secretary proof everything first.

I'm sure even some of your idiot neo-con, MzCreep loving, weiner-worshipping, banjo-playing readers can spot the errors. Come on, quit letting us liberals down. We all know we read more and can spell better than they can any day of the week.
What's the big fuss here? A person was suspected of driving while drunk and arrested. Let's not get confused over what is news and what is due process. A suspect is presumed innocent of a crime until proven guilty in a court of law but that is not relevant to news worthiness.
Think about Amber alerts, TV news shows like DATELINE, 48 HOURS or the O.J. Simpson chase. Suspects are pictured nationwide even BEFORE they are arrested. What's the abuse? None! It is news and that is that.
If you don't want to be pictured after a DUI arrest, don't drink and climb behind the wheel of your car. If you don't want your picture out there on a high-speed TV chase, don't evade the cops...etc. etc.
Okay folks--in Texas it's DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), not DUI (like other states). We DO have a "DUI", now, though. A minor driving with alcohol in his/her system "under the limit", is Driving Under the Influence, but it's a lesser offense. So much for the Texas law lesson.
with alr, suspected is almost the same a conviction. it will still ruin u.
follow the money
Iowa has OWI (Operating While under the Influence).
True story:
Guy gets drunk in bar in a small town without taxi service. Guy decides to sleep in backseat of his car that is parked at the curb in front of the bar. It is Jan. in Iowa, guy gets really cold, wakes up crawls over the front seat, starts his car and turns on the heater and falls asleep. Wakes to city cop rapping on his window with a flashlight. Guy provides a BAC of .09 on the Datamaster breathalyzer. Yep, guy is arrested for Operating While under the Influence. Client got a real deal with deferred adjudication. He was required to attend a drunk drivers course, pay court costs, attorney fees, $200 to victims restitution fund and since he did not contest the OWI within 10 days automatically lost his license for 6 months.
Here is a plan for ANYONE who tends to get trashed/drunk/wasted/intoxicated in public; Do NOT do it. I have NEVER heard a good/funny story about something that happened to ANYONE while they were intoxicated in public.
duh!
