The Campaign For DA

4.01.2016

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • The Alabama governor is involved in a sex scandal and an NBA player records a teammate talking about cheating on his fiancee and it gets released. In this day and time, you will be busted.
  • I'm just glad I'm too old to even think about it and just want to go home at the end of the day.
  • Kudos to the DA employees for having the paperwork ready yesterday even before I got there.
  • I went back and listened to the Supreme Court announcing it's decision in Lawrence v. Texas. I've listened to oral arguments and read opinions but I had never listen to them "announce" a decision. It's fascinating. And Scalia sounded like a crazy man but he did make a prediction: The decision will lead to the legalization of same sex marriage.
  • I'm trying to get caught up on the mini-series The People vs. O.J. Simpson. Man, it is good.
  • The missing mother who was found dead days later in her car in a Target parking lot in Frisco with her three young children inside may be the weirdest story I've ever heard of.
  • There is a play in Denton of Glengarry Glen Ross. I loved that movie and Alec Baldwin was fantastic. And the actors in it in addition to him are legendary: Kevin Spacey, Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, and Ed Harris. Always Be Closing.
  • One of the funniest shows no one remembers: Space Ghost Coast to Coast
  • Wordkyle: Unemployment has risen to 5%!!!
  • Hanson Aggregates is having an open house for their quarry between Bridgeport and Chico. You know, I'm interested. If you ever flown over it or looked at it on satellite view, the whole concept is fascinating.

BG: So has the Labor Force Participation Rate! It hit 63% for the first time in two years! (Making the official unemployment rate a bit more accurate, although still vastly under the actual unemployment rate.)

93,482,000 Americans now out of the work force. I suppose based on twisted liberal logic that might be something to crow about?

I would like to know how the photographer did that. Is that one huge wave coming in?

Scalia was a bigot. He is not missed.

Yes, Wordkyle is sure to be thrilled that the unemployment rate went up. Because nothing says patriot like hoping the country will fail.

But wait. We added over 200,000 jobs last month? How can that be? Why did unemployment go up if we added that many jobs?

Oh yeah, more people are entering the labor force, which means that we are both increasing the number of jobs and more people are out looking for new jobs. The 200,000 job growth is a sign of a stable and conservatively growing economy, despite oil prices. Add to that the increased LFPR, and it's a sign of a fundamentally stable and sound economy.

Sorry Wordkyle, no matter how much you say Obama wants this country to fail, he just keeps improving it.

Thanks Obama.

Do I remember that some postulated that O.J.'s son may have seen a portion of the murder that night, but was too young (age 5) to explain what was what? He is in his twentys now, but when O.J. is gone, wonder if he will spill the beans?

9:24, I'm glad you are thankful that Obammy got you a job cooking french fries. Now get back to work because they are not going to cook themselves.

9:24 - Thanks for the 7 year recession Obama!

wordkyle said...

924 - You're right. Despite Obama's (and his Democrat congressional toadies') seven-year attempt to crush the American economy, it has begun to improve -- on its own.

I've been happily part of the 93 million not Woking for over 20 years. Wife and I retired at 53 because we earned and planned. And most of my grandchildren are in in school so join me in the not working force. This US economy is probably the best in the world.

I think it's odd that a 5 year old didn't get herself out of her car seat and open the truck door in three days. Lot of people think the husband had something to do with it. But everyone has different ways to act in stressful situations. A person commented on facebook she saw that truck earlier in the day friday but didn't think anything about it...guess she didn't remember the truck description and wasn't really looking for it. I think it's possible the mom felt sick, got the kids some food at McDonalds and thought if she parked for a few minutes she would feel better and could ten continue with whatever she had to do. But then she could have had a stroke. I know if those kids were locked up with her three days there will be a lot of poop & pee as evidence and the 5 year old should be able to speak.

Hey little buddy you can go out there and campaign at the gravel pit open house.

Barry pressing the flesh at the gravel pit would be beyond weird to see or experience. It would be like a scene out of the movie The Campaign and Barry is Marty Huggins. Whoa Nellie!

Loved Space Ghost Coast to Coast. It's a nerd thing. Most people don't want to admit to watching it.

It is funny how both sides spin the unemployment argument. The truth is that we have a changed economy due to the economic collapse. Companies have forever changed the way they operate. We will see a whole generation where there will be fewer good jobs because of it and the wages will stay stagnant because of the surplus of workers. Democrats want to bring the bottom up with minimum wage hikes, Republicans want to keep it the same because they realized just how lean they can run during the collapse. Them Dem plan will cost us more middle class jobs, the Republicans have no plan because wage stagnation is a boon to big business. In either case the middle class gets squeezed. We are literally to the point where the average Joe/Jane cannot even educate themselves enough to out earn their parents. This is the real problem that no one wants to talk about!!!

If you are talking about the dark line behind the RTG on the left side, that would be called.....land.

The dead mother with 3 kids in the car is a weird one for sure. A few red flags, none of which validate or prove anything.

A good question I heard is why did mom park so far away from the store with 3 small kids in the car? Or was it because mom pulled over there?

Also... a 5 year old kid should have enough brain power to get out and talk to someone.

And the dad not calling the police for 24 hours?

No matter the reasoning, this seems like a timid, naive family.

2.9 million of those who have dropped out are between 25-54. That's prime earning years, and they may not ever have a chance to recover. Despite improving job opportunities, they aren't returning to the labor force. That's when the worker skills no longer match what employers need. Without training, they won't return to the labor force.

Thanks Obama

Is there any way you could restate your spot on assessment in fewer and littler words so the liberals would have a higher reader comprehension? Also start off with the word "free"...then they might actually read it.

wordkyle said...

1043 "We are literally to the point where the average Joe/Jane cannot even educate themselves enough to out earn their parents." - You touch upon something that our host mentioned a while back. The gist of his comment was that the government student loan program is now essentially an endless supply of money to give to colleges and universities. Attempts are made to "forgive" student loans to ease the financial burden on college graduates. In this environment, no brake exists to prevent those colleges and universities from increasing their costs. As a result, those costs have risen much higher than the rate of inflation. The average public college president makes half a million dollars a year. College football coaches make millions of dollars a year.

And the average Joe and Jane are forced to either bow out of college all together, or to immerse themselves in astronomical debt, with the hope that the government -- which helped force the costs higher -- bails them out.

And did it collapse under Bush on its own? Please.

Not 9:24, or Sam

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle, that's what an economy does under a leader with the right vision. It improves organically. Monkeying with it only makes it worse.

So, good thing we have Obama, as opposed to someone with Bush's meddling tendencies.

You think it started the day he took office?

Wow, you Obama people cam really stretch the truth. The fact is, the country has been in sad shape for a long time, run by criminals and communists and asshats who think they're better than the rest of us. If you yahoos really believe Obama or his administration has improved life for Americans (that is, legal, documented citizens), then you must be living in an insulated Xbox environment, perhaps your mommy's basement. Oh well, it's the end of America as we know it. Send lawyers, guns, and money but please don't tax me anymore than I'm already paying! I love me some communism so please don't trace my address.

12:46 - Bush was a leftist.

I forget that a lot of readers don't realize that their arguments have been refuted in this forum before. So once again:

1. The Labor Force Participation Rate dropped like a rock during Obama's time in office. Not gradually -- immediately and drastically.
2. Democrats exacerbated the economic downturn by threatening businesses. Remember the tension over the Obamacare employer mandate? Businesses built up cash reserves because they were afraid to expand and add to their employee count.
3. The national debt, which Obama himself declared a crisis before he took office ("treason" to increase it, I think he said) was increased over three trillion dollars in two years under Obama and a Democrat Congress.
4. Obamacare, which Obama himself lied about to promote, has cost more, covered fewer, and added to the financial burden of millions of poor people who still can't afford to see a doctor.
5. To those who are itching to use the "Baby Boomers retiring" argument (yet again), the group aged 65 and over are participating in the workforce at a higher rate than they did in previous years.
6. For extra credit: Obama & Co. have use their administration to punish political enemies in a way that Richard Nixon could only have dreamed of. The Justice Department and IRS have become wings of the Democrat Party, with no fear of punishment.

That's a synopsis of the last several years of discussion here. There's more, but you get the gist. Do you homework and you won't have to be educated all over again.

If LGBT rights are to be held sacred; then why does a "B" have to choose? Why is marriage so strictly defined as just two people? Aren't the "B" folks being severely discriminated and forced to live against their nature?

Hey idiots, people "not in the work force" includes infants and retired and those in prison, etc. It's not the number of able bodied working age people that are skipping out.

Once again, you are full of crap.

Numbers 2 thru 4 specifically.

The GOP has controlled the House of Reps the last 2 congresses, 112 and 113. Dems have controlled the Senate in both the 112th and 113th Congress.

If the GOP controlled the House the last 5+ years, why is "a Democratic Congress to blame"?

OH....I know....the sun was in their eyes.

Wordkyle has us pegged for sure: Baby Boomers who are 'retired' but continue to work in our late 60's/early 70s. Can't really afford to live on 'retirement' and social security. No mortgage. One car payment (older, used). No major medical bills. Just normal household expenses, taxes, lots of insurance (damn! probably a bit over a third of our monthly income, between home, vehicle, medical, and a modest 'death benefit' policy). Credit cards paid off monthly. Occasional short trip. Major vacations...few and far between.
I guess if it's not the economy, our pets are sure over-eaters!

426 - People "not in the work force" (DOES NOT) include infants and those in prison, etc. The Household Data report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is "Employment status of the civilian noninstitutional population" age 16 and older. And, as I mentioned earlier, those 65 and older are staying in the workforce at a higher rate than in previous years.

503 - The history books show that Democrats controlled both houses of Congress the first two years of Obama's presidency. Remember how they rammed through Obamacare against the wishes of the American people? And points 2-4 above?

521 - Your right.
