Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • The Polyphonic Spree shows up on local television every now and then. They are a huge "meh" to me.
  • This Fiscal Cliff is pure silliness and politics. And John Boehner is no match for the President in this deal. (For you actually following the situation, Boehner couldn't even get "Plan B" passed in the House last night).
  • Watch Ocean's 11 last night. I've seen it a couple of times, and I still think I need someone to explain it to me.
  • When I tried to bring the family up to date that Carl Reiner's character was playing an American who was acting as a German the Freshman-In-The-House said, "Does he get found out when he holds up three fingers the wrong way?" My mouth dropped. If you get the reference, your's might too. (She claims she hadn't seen the Tarantino movie but that only "a friend told me about it.")
  • Lake Worth ISD has cancelled classes today because students needed time to "cope" with the events at Newtown. Is that the biggest give up ever?
  • Christmas falling on a Tuesday may be the perfect day for the longest of long weekends.
  • Whenever I walk out of the office on long weekends I always stop and think, "Remember this feeling."
  • I think "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is my favorite holiday song. And the James Taylor version may be at the top of the list (although I learned a second ago it was originally recorded by Judy Garland.)
  • A Judy Garland concert was the first ever event at the Astrodome. (A little random trivia for you.)
  • Mrs. LL and I woke up at 4:00 in the morning with a bizarre and rare case of duel insomnia. We watched the last half of an obscure movie  from 2003 called The Shape of Things with Paul Rudd. I never went back to sleep.
  • Mrs. LL also walked around the house all evening singing R.E.M.'s "It's The End Of the World As We Know It."
  • I flipped over last night to Fox Sports Southwest to see the last minute victory of Stamford over Mart in a Class A Texas high school championship game at Jerry World. I'll take that over the NFL any day.
  • I came home yesterday to watch all the Females-In-The-House watching a Glee concert on cable. The main theme of the show was acceptance and love. Kind of hard to argue with that.
  • If you are a fan of Talladega Nights and heard any of the Josh Hamilton and Wife press conference last weekend, you'll giggle at this. Very funny.

Of course Lake Worth needed to take a day off to cope; it's (according to Channel 5) the 7 day "anniversary" of the massacre. I guess tomorrow will be the 8th day anniversary, and so on. It's also going to snow on Christmas, per 5. And, there was "gridlock" on 183 south of DFW at 4:30 this morning; though the live video that showed one or two cars flying by at 70 mph begged to differ. Plus, DFW Airport "wasn't too jammed" yet at 4:30 AM. Imagine that. I guess when nobody gets killed overnight, no house burns down, and they can't find anyone suffering to report on and brighten our morning...the news is...thankfully...not news. I feel sorry for those in studio who have time to fill and absolutely nothing worth saying.

Too much Judy Garland talk this morning. 8:53, don't worry about the anchors at the studio. They're paid to penalty kill. You should worry about the ADD-addled photogs and reporters. We're the devil's workshop when we're bored.

We all perished last night, and are now trapped in a parallel of time and space. It will only get weirder from here on.

Proof that Bacon is blind, there are 4 girls in today's pic.

Not sure what is going to happen with Boehner at this point.

Seems like both sides are more concerned about what their cheerleaders on MSNBC and Fox are going to say than with what is going to happen to the country.

The "sounds fishy" alarm went off when I heard about the Lake Worth ISD giving students the day off. How did they manage the previous four days since the shooting? Kinda convenient that it happens on a Friday, and before their break, right? I think somebody just wanted to start their vacation early.

How odd that you would know Judy Garland trivia. Most people who spout trivia about the Astrodome can tell you about sporting events. Are you trying to tell us you're a friend of Dorothy?

Understandable that you would have insomnia. Neither Hamilton or Burr got a wink of sleep the night before they squared off with each other. Really obscure trivia: they caught the last half of a romcom called Midnight Rider: The Bawdy Adventures of Paul Revere
Duel:
1: a combat between two persons; specifically : a formal combat with weapons fought between two persons in the presence of witnesses
2: a conflict between antagonistic persons, ideas, or forces; also : a hard-fought contest between two opponents

A Judy Garland concert was the first ever event at the Astrodome. (A little random trivia for you.)

Wrong.

The first event at the Astrodome was an exhibition baseball game between the Astros and the Yankees. Judy Garland and The Supremes performed at the game, however.

"This Fiscal Cliff is pure silliness and politics. And John Boehner is no match for the President in this deal. (For you actually following the situation, Boehner couldn't even get "Plan B" passed in the House last night)"

Oh my word. What will you say if everyone in the country is paying much higher taxes next year....YEAH?

This whole deal is just like everything else has been for a long long time...more power and money in Washington.

When was the last time you heard of LESS power and money going Washington. Seriously.

Any excuse, any tragedy, and cause whatsoever, send more money.

Income tax started in the 20's, max rate 10%. WWI supposed to be paid for by the first death tax. Families could get by on one salary.

Now we are taxed every time we take a shit, at least the ones of us who still work.

Boner and obammy are not on opposite sides. They are both in the camp of "send more to Washington". This fiscal cliff thing was signed into law, all the while knowing it would occur.

THEY PLANNED IT THIS WAY, all the while saying they would not actually do it. Bullshit. They are going to do it. This is the way they snuck in raising all taxes back up, and the entire country bought that it would not happen, BEFORE the election.

Now they will have two years to fade the heat, before the next election. Classic.

Military cut to rags, and taxes higher across the board.

At least the debt will not go up quite so fast. But we are about the have a fairly good recession.

Only way to fix this crap is to elect 537 small businessmen, who have NEVER had anything to do with politics, to run the country. Then fire 80% of the non military government workers. Then put in an across-the-board, four year term limit on all of them.

As to the Fiscal Cliff we are facing: 1. Our president has never presented nor passed a budget during his administration. 2. Our president is no leader.
3. Our president is incapable of bringing the sides together. 4. Why is this the Republican's fault? Sheesh

As to both waking up early this morning, that means SEX at my home. Come on, a movie? Sheesh

Well, at least your eyes work. You may want to work on verb tense in 2013, assuming we make it through the rest of today.

I know Lake Worth ISD sure as heck better have to make up this day that they "took off!" If the state allows them a waiver for it and they don't have to make it up, then I can bet you you'll see more schools dealing with traumatized students who need a day off, or why not a week off, to cope with the shootings in Newtown.

Lake Worth ISD said they were using one of their 'bad weather days". Every district builds in 2 bad weather days every year. If they don't use them, they get of 2 days later in spring usually around Easter or even later in spring.

Don't the tea party folks understand that taxes WILL go back to preBush rates (UP) if new rates are not passed? Boehner is going to raise YOUR rates. Obama wants a raise on only those earning over $250,000 per year. What's the problem?

Anonymous said...

The Tea Party is why Texas ranks almost last in education. They are the candidates that cut education.

Anonymous said...

The Tea Party is four years old. How long has Texas ranked last in education?

Anonymous said...

I'm so sick and tired of the "Texas is last in education" crap. Last compared to who??? Maine? Oregon? Montana? Nebraska? Do those states even have ESL programs? When I hear about New Hampshire playing the standardized test game with the same diversity we do, then I'll give a rats ass about how we stack up.

Also, education does not lack funding. The blow hards in charge of the money spend it are the problem. Every day I drive by Northwest ISD's football stadium and I'm reminded of how much of my tax dollars are wasted. It pisses me off to know that Northwest ISD spent even more of my tax dollars to join in some shark ass attorney firm's lawsuit to suck more money out of the tax payer's hands. When you start seeing coaches getting cut instead of librarians, teachers, and field trip budgets, you can worry then.

The chiefs are getting fat off pork while the indians starve.

Candidates cannot cut funding. Elected officials do.
