Flashback
Yeah, I try not to post to many youtube clips and especially youtube clips where it takes a couple of minutes to get to the good stuff, but I'm overruling myself and doing it.
I had absolutely and completely forgotten that these diving competitions used to occur. I'm pretty sure I watched it as a kid on Wide World Of Sports and, once I saw it was on, I wasn't leaving to go and do what used to be called "play outside."
And I suspect they stopped these competitions because somebody was going to get killed one day.
But I urge you to get past the brief interview and watch as the camera pans up to the position of the diver. And, of course, then watch the dive.
And I own those exact shorts.

Also, who remembers the Mexican cliff divers? Where were those cliffs? I remember that it seemed like all those guys were always very old for diving off a sheer faced cliff (which they scaled like a mountaineer to jump off)

Wow... several flashbacks here.
1.) The dude on the ladder reminds me of Wrestling at the Will Rodgers Sportatorium.
2.) Wide World of Sports was so cool when you were a kid. I remember getting so excited over two obscure sports I would see every so often... Barrel Jumping and Ski Jumping.
3.) "Play outside"... better known by its more common name... "GO OUTSTIDE!". And totally forgotten by most kids today.
The cliffs are in Acapulco, Mexico.
I'm going to go home tonight and say a prayer for this guys...uh...twig and berries. I'm sure we are talking blueberries after that dive. BIG blueberries.

I thought you had to go in head first for it to be a dive?
He basically jumped off an tv antenna! Amazing, not only did he jump off but he did a triple fake cannonball with a sugar jackknife twist. CRAZY!
However, riddle me this batman, how does running in the hills of West Virgina prepare ya for that? You just basically fall with style.
