Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts



Ten years hasn't changed anything. 

  • This is horrible. It happened along the school bus route. There were eight other children on the bus at the time.


  • At least 404 people have been killed so far, with 562 injured.  I would criticize Israel's heavy-handedness, but I'm afraid of being deported. 


  • Welcome to The Handmaid's Tale.  The poorest among us will always seek alternative methods, and Ken Paxton will be ready to pounce so he can issue a press release..

  • They are finally on their way home.  Splash down is at 4:57 p.m. CST off the coast of Florida. 


  • The whole country is about to learn that when the federal government goes rouge and refuses to obey a federal judge's order, there is nothing the judge can do about it. 


    • The only good thing about this meathead "immigration czar" is that he's dumb enough to say the quiet part out loud. And Fox News just yuks it up while he does it. 

    • Last second edit: Trump just sent this out. Now we have more even more proof that Democracy is Dead, and a madman is in charge.  It's over. 

  • So petty.

  • Trump went all Evita yesterday at the Kennedy Center. 

    • And his press secretary was sounding a little like 1930s Germany while he did it. 

  • Speaking of . . .  


  • The Business Second™. They actually pitched the product on Shark Tank in 2018. (If the show is real, one "shark" bought 25% of the company for $400,000. Side note: Why didn't they just borrow the money?)


  • I covered his arrest when it happened, but now the defendant's appellate lawyers say he was arranging his hook-up online in the afternoon while the trial was happening. 



  • Tracy Morgan threw up while sitting courtside at an NBA game at Madison Square Garden last night, and the picture of it is quite, well,  something.  He was escorted out in a wheelchair.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts






I found that I also posted these headlines about Bridgeport's basketball success. 

  • For the krillionth year, we will will have a Liberally Lean March Madness Pick 'Em Tourney. Sign up here.  Once again there will be a tricked up scoring system rewarding upsets.

  • Mark this weekend as the day the Rule of Law died in America, And it was done in way which will cause the public to cheer due to the execution of a  diabolical plan that Joseph Goebbels would have been envious of. It was a carefully constructed mechanism to defy the courts.  Let's review:
    • On Friday, Trump invoked a law from 1798 which literally allows the government to snatch someone off the street and send them out of the country.  And no person seized has the right to contest it, and the President decides who gets picked up  As a result of the law, according to the White House press secretary, "This weekend, at the President’s direction, the Department of Homeland Security successfully arrested nearly 300 Tren De Aragua terrorists." And they would immediately be sent to Venezuela. 
    • You're cheering, right? Who doesn't want violent gang members rounded up?  How can you not support that? But were they all gang members? Were they non-citizens? Who knows?
    • So a judge on Saturday stopped the deportations temporarily so as to at least figure out the ton of legal and factual issues surrounding Trump's action. He even specifically said at 6:40 p.m. EST, "Any plane in the air must be returned to the U.S." The "gangbanger" headlines followed: 

    • The judge then got verbally attacked. 


    • But most importantly of all , Trump then defied the court order. The planes didn't turn around. I told you this conduct was coming. It was just a matter of time.
       
    • Speaking of Goebbels, after the deportees arrived in Venezuela and El Salvador, a Hollywood worthy video demonizing them was immediately released. The public ate it up. 
    • It's over.
  • And who gets targeted next? What about those on the January 6th Committee who brought to light all the details of Trump's insurrection? In the early morning hours, Trump created a power that he does not have: 

  • Buried in all of this, Trump spoke in Great Hall at the Justice Department on Friday. AG Pam Bondi introduced him as “the greatest president in the history of our country” and saying she works “at the directive of Donald Trump.” Trump then shockingly (or not) told the Justice Department audience, “I believe CNN and MSNBC are political arms of the Democratic Party and they are really corrupt and illegal.” They are next. 


    • And in a finish suitable for the current state of the country, at the end of the speech  YMCA was played and Trump danced. Did I mention this was at the Justice Department building?  Video. 

  • And I don't even have time for the details of Trump targeting more law firms, targeting 50 universities (including UNT and Rice), the DOJ no longer fighting Republican gerrymandering in Texas, or the release of the video of the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil inside his university-owned residence by plain clothed immigration agents.
  • Welcome to autocracy. It is here. And, mark my words, in four years Trump is not leaving. 
  • Quick hits about other things:
    • On the heels of the crazy dust storm in West Texas that created a 38 vehicle pile-up near Amarillo (video) on Friday, storms hit the Midwest and South this weekend killing at  least 39 people. Winds threw a bus onto the roof a school in Alabama.  


    • There's actually video of this. 

    • A man who was mad at the Houston Sheriff's Office fired off 30 rounds with an AR-15 in front of it. Video. 

    • The deadline for filing bills in the Texas legislature has occurred with the total number filed this year being 8,898 - a record.  Ugh. The very last one simply said that the Texas government would write each of us a $500 check. Really. 
    • At the University of Pittsburg on Friday, college students partying on an overhang were injured when it collapsed. Video. 

    • A chilling video emerged of the immediate aftermath of the 17 vehicle wreck that killed five in Austin. 

    • Greg Abbott is spreading the lie about "furries" in public schools in his efforts to pass the voucher scam bill. 
    • Some people aren't stressed: Bill Belichick, 72, and his 24 year old girlfriend this weekend:

  • Wise County Judge J.D. Clark had a big week: He was on CSPN and, I think, in Scotland.

In a shocking crime in Graham, a man murdered his two young children and then sent a photo of their bodies to their mother.  After a change of venue order, the trial was transferred from Young County to Tarrant County where the jury rejected the death penalty. 

  • We might either blow away or catch fire today.

  • Unnerving scene in Denver late yesterday as passengers escaped via the wing while the plane was burning. Video.


  • It was on southbound I-35 in Austin last night. Eleven more were hurt, some critically.

  • And you wonder why I kept mentioning concentration camps? Get ready.  Here comes a 1798 law to move us ever closer to it:
