Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Mrs. LL is having an "eye" issue. (Meaning, one eye only.) Without depth perception, I don't trust her driving (as if I did to start with.) Anyway, that means I've been Driving Miss Daisy around everywhere.
  • So many questions: "AUSTIN — Attorney General Ken Paxton's pastor has sued the lead witnesses against him in his upcoming criminal trials [claiming they] bilked him out of about a half-million dollars." First question: How many half-millions can a pastor have?
  • If you get charged with murder because of an incident at some place called "Tiger Caberet" in Dallas at 4:00 a.m. then your life may have gone horribly wrong. (Especially if you shoot at another man and accidentally kill your own girlfriend.)

  • Students at Notre Dame walked out on the Vice President's commencement address. #Resist.
  • Trump went to Saudi Arabia over the weekend. Fifteen of the eighteen 9/11 attackers were from Saudi. We all just ignore that for some reason.
  • And Trump and Tillerson dancing with swords amongst Muslims is a scene I won't forget. It  probably won't go over well with his base.(Some put the scene to the music of Rock the Casbah but I'm too lazy to link to it.
  • And I could go on all day but let me end with this: Remember when the GOP went nuts over the Clinton Foundation? Well, this happened.
  • Ok, I lied. One more:

  • I'm worried about the messaging of FBC of Dallas. "Reigniting" indeed.
  • I jumped into the middle of Better Call Saul, but it's good.
  • The U.S. Attorney decides not to re-prosecute John Wiley Price. That office, that prosecution, and this "save face" press release (that was, of course, issued on dead news Friday) are all disasters.
  • Both of these people have served the same time in the military. And only one of them plagarized  a portion their thesis.
  • I've never seen The Princess Bride.

Doesn't look like a bow to me--just receiving some kind of "medal".

You gotta love George W Bush after that interview on the Ticket .... regardless of politics, he's a man of substance and continues to live it.

Does Mrs. LL look like Elle Driver, a.k.a. California Mountain Snake from "Kill Bill"? I would pay to see that in costume :)

And that's the reason why I drive 99% of the time. I only live dangerously 1% of the time.

How does someone "accidentally" open fire and empty a clip into three people, including a girlfriend? Define accident. Hint: acting in a way that is likely to yield the eventual result is not the definition.

The Princess Bride is good, but if you just watch the part from the ship chase to the battle of wits...you'll feel like you've had a good bead on it.

I'm not fan of Veep Pence, but I'd probably just sit there if he spoke at any of my graduations. First, graduation ceremonies are an awful affair under the best circumstances and seeing a Vice President speak is not going to make it any worse.

Second, I'm sort of a wimp and probably wouldn't have the ambition and energy to leave in the midst of something I'd worked so hard for.

If someone else wants to take off, though, that's their business.

Are Democrats calling attention to plagiarism now? Just wondering.

Trump bowed AND curtsied. That man roars like a lion but sh**s like a bird.

Not so much worried about the Sheriff's plagiarism. Very worried about him killing prisoners in his jail by cutting off their water supply completely for seven days. Still can't believe some agency hasn't opened an investigation and arrested Clarke.

It was a big with a cute little curtsy, feel free to watch the Saudi/Trump medal ceremony in slow motion to catch all the glorious detail. Also, the 30 pages the FBI released last year detailed how the 911 hijackers were funded by the Saudi government. So, yes. Let's sell them weapons and take their medals.

Paxton's lawyer suing the witness against Paxton is a standard tactic. If the pastor is suing the witness, that allows Paxton to point at him and say "see, it was him!". Boom--it creates reasonable doubt--or at least is supposed to.

I guarantee you anything if you dig deep enough you will find a connection between Paxton's lawyers and the preacher's lawyers somewhere. I have seen this exact tactic play out in the court room. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it backfires in a huge way.

As for Paxton, there is nothing to say that both he and the witness are both guilty. Paxton's biggest problem is that he bilked other politicians--including, I believe, Joe Straus. His case is not going to go away as easily as he wants, or else it would have by now.

You should have started Better Call Saul from the beginning. I think it's great. If you spend any time in courthouses, you see guys like that everywhere--no-name lawyers struggling to get by, scamming the system any way they can; female associates struggling to get ahead without having to bang the boss, only to be held down even when they do something right; mass-market client recruiting, where the lawyers make more than any plaintiff... The show is really pretty spot-on in several respects.

Republican hypocrisy over Trump has been a problem from the start--to people who have any morals. Anyone who supports Trump at this point doesn't care if they lie, cheat, or steal. As long as he's not a black guy Trump can assault women, sell weapons to people that hate us, golf every weekend, fire the people investigating treason, spend more on vacations in 100 days than Obama did in eight years, allow his daughter to start a foundation like Clinton, etc. Their hypocrisy knows absolutely no bounds.

Those weapons for the Saudis, by the way, are being used in Yemen. While I agree with the fight against Al Qaeda there, Yemen is quickly turning into the next Aleppo. The Saudis are strangling a whole country to protect themselves from Al Qaeda, a brand of terrorism that they originally fostered in their own country. Now that it's out of hand and so public, all of a sudden they want to fight it. And they'll level Yemen to do it.

*Music plays* Ladies and gentlemen! Are you ready for America's hottest new show, "IF THAT HAD BEEN OBAMA!" Today's contestant... A picture of Trump bowing to a foreign leader! Let's watch, and see if the Trumplodites who went berserk over Obama taking a bow show the same anger at the orange baby-man. Aaaaannnddd.... NO! THEY'RE NOT SAYING A DAMN THING! THE HYPOCRISY CONTINUES!

Rage, with all of the things you accuse Trump of with no evidence, he sounds like the perfect candidate for a Nobel Peace Prize.

OK 10:52, I'll play. Let's see what I accused Trump of:

1. Assaulting women. Evidence? Just his own words on video.

2. Selling weapons to people who hate us. Evidence? The widely publicized $110B sale this weekend. Who says the Saudis hate us? Well, Trump has, of one, and as you know the majority of the 9/11 attackers were from there. And wait till domestic oil production ticks up to see what they do to our economy...

3. Golf every weekend. Evidence? OK, maybe that was hyperbole. I think there have been two weekends where he did not golf.

4. Fire the people investigating treason. Evidence? Isn't that what Comey was doing? I didn't say Trump committed treason, but whomever may have colluded with the Russians did. That's what Comey was doing--seeing if there was a connection. Trump's statement to the Russians and even the press were that he did it specifically because of the investigation.

5. Spend more on vacations in 100 days than Obama did in eight years. Evidence? Just the statements for the CBO and any number roof press outlets adding up the dollars he's spent.

6. Allow his daughter to start a foundation like Clinton. Evidence? Just the $100M the Saudis are giving the (as of yet) u-established foundation.

I even left off the incompetency of letting his daughter take over talks with the Saudis instead of the damn secretary of state, which Trump is "exhausted" from all that dancing. Remember the rumors going around when Clinton was exhausted after months of travel and campaigning? Yet nothing from y'all abbot Trump going down after a single cushy flight on Air Force One?

Like I said--hypocrisy. I really don't understand how y'all can live with yourselves. Years complaining about Obama, and Trump is far worse, in less time, and y'all can't manage a single complaint.
