Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • "As opposed to the state having to take multiple rifle-shot approaches at overriding local regulations, I think a broad-based law by the state of Texas that says across the board, the state is going to pre-empt local regulations, is a superior approach." - Gov. Greg Abbott. That is a bizarre statement
  • Let's check in on the gallery at the legislature.
  • Supreme Court nominee Gorsuch handles himself very well. He's almost more like a politician than a judge. (I read yesterday that he would be the first Supreme Court Justice ever from a state that did not border the coast. True?)
  • Mrs. LL misplaced her car keys at a softball practice. The car was running and locked.
  • No way TrumpCare passes.  How the GOP didn't have its ducks in a row is amazing.
  • Good for TCU to get to the NIT Final Four. It's a stepping stone for a team that has been beyond awful in the Big 12.
  • The boys on The Ticket talked about this this morning: I-35 down to Austin has been under construction all our lives.
  • WBAP's Brian Estridge claims in an ad to have lost 16 pounds in one week on a weight loss program.
  • Chuck Barris of The Gong Show has died. As a kid I remember watching that show with the biggest smile on my face and the biggest question mark floating over my head.
  • MADD posted on Twitter a Teddy Bear for $35 which would be donated to young victims. I asked them how much they made off of each unit. They replied they didn't know because they didn't know the cost of the Teddy Bear yet. Uh. Say what?

Off the top of my head, Rehnquist and O'Connor were from Arizona, and that state only has ocean-front property in country songs.

MADD just doesn't want to publicize how much they are making off of that bear. It probably cost them about $ 5.00 (at most) to produce

SCOTUS question: I'm gonna go with FALSE! Wasn't Sandra Day O'Connor from Arizona? And Taft was from Ohio. That's just off the top of my head. You'd think your average person steeped in the legal bidness would take a few minutes before posing that question

I think it's an odd statement because the Guv uses the term "rifle-shot approaches", then doesn't follow up with the appropriate "shotgun remedy" in his solution.
That said, I also think the shotgun remedy should only apply to state-wide problems. Leave local problems in the hands of the locals

Typical bullsh*t from someone like Estridge who is closely associated with TCU & Cowtown.

"How the GOP didn't have its ducks in a row is amazing." - You have to be joking. The disunity and infighting of the national Republican party is one of their trademarks. Unlike the national Democrat party, there's a variety of opinions and points of view. (Notwithstanding the recent Sanders uprising, which was promptly quashed.)

Don't forget that Texas Wesleyan captured the NAIA championship while UTA advances to the NIT quarterfinals. Good times for college basketball in Tarrant County!

Why the hell do people lock up their car with the car running...or ever leave them running? Waste of energy and life on your motor..probably had the a/c going...good gosh..so stupid.

Liberals leave their cars running in order increase global warming. Just like Al Gore's electric bill for one year being more than I use in 20 years.

Why do LIBTARDS think they are SOOOOOO smart and know everything and think everybody else is dumb?????

Dirt work on the I-35 and I-820 interchange project in north Fort Worth started 8 years ago. And it sure looks like there is still a while to go. Meantime, an entire several miles of new toll lanes, INCLUDING what seems to be as complex an interchange at Northeast Mall, was completed in far less time. As was the "high five" in north Dallas...the difference? TxDOT vs NTTA. Public vs. Private.

Anonymous said...

Why do people bitch and moan so much over toll roads? Nobody has a gun to your head. If you don't want to pay a toll, don't use the toll road. And if you do use it and are "forced" to pay, please understand the road only exists because the promise of future tolls was used to fund construction. Oh, and be sure to complete full circle your application for idiot of the year by also screaming bloody murder when your local or state elected officials suggest raising taxes so that we can build more "free" roads that you like better.

Trumpcare will pass. Republicans politics being what they are, there are enough promises of federal dollars being made to districts of those that said they wouldn't vote for it.

Roy Rogers died, and so did Trigger.

11:49...Did somebody take Roy to the taxidermist's, like Roy did ol' Trigger?

SpanishWarDonkey said...

The H5 was built quickly because the contractor was incentivized to build it quickly. TxDOT also charged them by the hour for each lane closed and it varied based on time of day. It's pretty sad you've got to pay a company extra to do what they agree to do in their contracts with the state. It's a simple formula really; bid, don't finish in time, cry to TxDOT, Texas transportation commission directs TxDOT not to penalize the contractor. Contractor donates campaign money to senators that confirm the commission. Rinse and repeat; but that's the Texas GOP for you.

The only thing NTTA operates is the tolled lanes of 635. Those tolls will pay the contractor for the next 50 years for the work they did, plus maintaining the road for that duration. But we can't raise the gas tax that's been the same since 1993, no, not with 3-4x the number of vehicles on the roads getting better gas mileage, that'd be crazy! Taxes are for European socialist Kenyan dictator aliens.

PSo people, like you, will continue to complain about issues, the complexities of which are 8' over your head, all while you smile and pat yourself on the back and complain about the inefficiency of a governmental agency that isn't funded enough to do the job it's supposed to do.

Why do people bitch about toll roads? - 11:14

Because they could have built free public roads instead. You know, what we pay taxes for.

Because we have sense enough to not say "Libtards." Or "tards" in any form (except possibly leotard.)

People bitch about toll roads because we already paid for the damn road with our tax dollars. Then once a toll road, they charge you by the axle. Pull a trailer down a toll road and look at how much that bill is, with or without a toll tag.

I've always felt we agree on more than we don't, thought not all. I think it's naybky for we go about addressing ithrtrd that differs most? I think we mainly disagree on trivial stuff like college FB.

Why do you people think your tax dollars are for roads? I am not sure most of you really know what your tax dollars do...

DF I already paid for the road

When a child is crying at the scene of an accident caused by a drunk driver, teddy bears, anything to hug, really help. Heaven forbid there is a sale price versus cost to make gap. That might make the bear less huggable for small, shocked victims of senseless tragedy.

With all due respect, please leave Cowtown out of your criticisms.
TCU on the other hand has become one step above of Baylor and that ain't saying much.
