The Campaign For DA

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Great. The Eighth Grader In The House has been diagnosed with strep throat, and I woke up with a sore throat sounding like Wolfman Jack. But I'm fighting through it because IATHWMISB. (Trademarked. All rights reserved.)
  • Presidential Press Secretary Sean Spicer actually showed respect for the press yesterday. Sadly, that is now news.
  • Academy Award nominations this morning for Best Picture: “Arrival,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,”“Hell or High Water” (the only one I'm interested in seeing), “Hidden Figures,” “La La Land” (Overrated?), “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea,” and “Moonlight. ”
  • The commercials for "The Good Contractors List" make it sound like they are an insurance company which will be a huge shock to them once they understand they have to comply with a ton of insurance regulations.
  • On the Dallas Morning News home page right now:
  • Anyone else see the TV ad about a drug for constipation caused by opioids? The legal drugging of America has come so far that we need drugs for the side effects of the drugging?
  • Me to my dad this weekend. "Trump shouldn't tweet early in the morning. Everyone needs a filter." Mrs. LL: "Says the guy who fires off hot and crazy opinions every morning without anyone looking at them first."
  • TCU running back arrested for Public Intoxication. Side note: I'm guessing about 90% of all PI arrests could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. But since it is a "fine only" crime, people just pay it and go on their way.
  • Uh, think "you can pour a drink while dancing and look good doing it?" And the bar is on the "hunt" for talent? That's an official Star-Telegram tweet.
  • "Alternative facts" and George Orwell's 1984. I've got to go back and read it.
  • Isn't it odd that Trump never laughs?
  • And Trump told a Congressional leaders yesterday in a private meeting that he believes up to 5 million illegal votes were cast against him. That wasn't just a political BS speech to a crowd of Trumpers, it was to high ranking elected officials behind closed doors. Does he believe that?
  • I want everyone to read the post below.

Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article128332509.html#storylink=cpyTrump told a private meeting with Congressional leaders yesterday there were 3 to 5 million illegal votes cast against him. Is he insane? That's a bold face lie. Does he believe that?

The mainstream media did its best to assure a Hillary Clinton victory against Trump before he won the election. They've done everything they can to undermine his presidency ever since he won the election. I'm not sure why you, they, or anyone would believe the mainstream media deserve Trump's respect. They gave up their traditional roles as impartial reporters decades ago to become Democrat activists.

Presidential Press Secretary Sean Spicer actually showed respect for the press yesterday.

I concur, which makes Spicer a very kind man. Most of those ideologues have nothing to do with journalism...so the word press would be more accurate.

The last eight years the "press" was simply the lap dogs to Obama and those of his kind.

"Says the guy who fires off hot and crazy opinions every morning without anyone looking at them first."

Seems quite the valid observation. WTG, Mrs. LL!

BTW, are you sourcing RTGs from Barely Legal now?

"So, I ask you, what don't you want"?
No brainier for Academy liberal rant fest.

Barry, maybe a few ride-alongs are in order. Most PI charges stem from someone being intoxicated to the point they are a nuisance. Does Texas have a BAC level needed for PI, or does the statute only require intoxication and being a PITA?

Kudos to Mrs. LL for hitting the nail on the head.

Oookay, still looking for a 'post below'.

Re Trump never laughs. At least give credit to the Ticket. Not your original observation.

The Trans-Pacific trade pact has become a political buzzword like Obamacare. Folks are against it and they don't even know what is in it. Well, friends & neighbors, batten down the hatches. With the Executive Order canceling it, the signatories (including our whitebread cousins from another mother, Australia) will look for trading partners elsewhere (CHINA!)immediately. By the time we go knocking on their doors individually to negotiate the new Trump-style deals, they will be nice and cozy with Beijing. They buy what China produces and China buys what they produce - that's what a trade deal is about. Not one job will brought back to the USA by this cancellation, but a heck of a lot will be lost in the future as we lose overseas sales. Oh well, the Mexicans can teach all the out out-of-work Trump backers how to mow lawns, pick strawberries, and frame houses.

Barry, strep is nasty and sneaky. Go see your doctor and get a quick strep swab test. And wipe down all surfaces in the home stat.

Didn't see any mention above about the 221M Obama slip to the Palestinians on his last day.

You must watch Arrival. It's great.

Sure. The Mainstream Media, which gave Trump more coverage and never called him out on his daily lies. The one that dropped the ball on Trump's ties to Russia. Go tell your alternative truths on the info wars FB page, Wordy.

"The mainstream media did its best to assure a Hillary Clinton victory against Trump before he won the election."

No, you blowhard, that's false. The media reported all the scandals about Hillary and all of the stupid things Trump said.

"They've done everything they can to undermine his presidency ever since he won the election."

If quoting Donald Trump is considered undermining his presidency, I guess you're correct.

"I'm not sure why you, they, or anyone would believe the mainstream media deserve Trump's respect."

Trump doesn't respect anyone but himself (except, perhaps, Vladimir Putin). He lies constantly, his press secretary started off with lies, and he counts on people like you to defend him.

"They gave up their traditional roles as impartial reporters decades ago to become Democrat activists."

"Hidden Figures" is a great movie. Also, "Manchester by the Sea" is excellently acted but very dark. It is a good movie, however.

TCU is not perfect but neither is the college in Waco!!

I don't really understand your (and others) fixation with the time of day that Trump sends out tweets. But if he was doing that in the middle of the day, it would clash with your problem of gov't employees using social media on the clock. Why not send him a schedule with a block of times you feel are appropriate?

Of all the movies listed, the only one I've seen is Hell or High Water. It was just average.
It was supposed to be so slice-of-Texas, but I thought they were trying too hard. Then you see the credits and find that most of it was shot in New Mexico. Why not just set the story in N.Mex? I guess they wanted the impact of the iconic rural farm road sign with the silhouette of Texas on it

I remember when this blog used to be entertaining. Now its just political.

Respect for the press? Why? There liars and frauds.

I haven't seen the ad, but I would've loved to have a product like that when my mom was dying of cancer and we were just trying to keep her comfortable.

Anonymous said...

That's a primary benefit of opioids. Although I do feel a little guilty when I let out a long hard one. It makes me feel a little gay, because I can see why they enjoy it.

I really wish this blog were less political and more down to earth humorous. I am tired of both sides.

Sorry, historical revisionists, the coverage of Trump was overwhelmingly negative after he secured the Republican nomination. One study (admittedly by a conservative organization, but the data is there for all to see) showed that 91% of coverage of Trump was negative. The Washington Post reported that they and the NY Times -- the two most influential newspapers in the country, whose stories are referenced everywhere -- showed a marked bias favoring Clinton.

If you don't like those sources, here's a quote from Mother Jones: "Overall, the media was harsher toward Trump than it was toward Clinton....the fact remains that Trump apparently got significantly more negative coverage than Clinton."

It's easier to broad-stroke "the media" as being deceptive, than it is to actually defend every rant or baseless claim that Trump makes.

@ 9:18
Please enlighten us on why Obammy didn’t put the TPP before Congress? Hint, it didn’t have a chance of being approved.

Anonymous said...

Negative coverage does not equal bias. A story can both be accurately reported and reflect negatively on its subjects.

Just combine alcohol with your opioids and you won't need the constipation pills.

THIS JUST IN: If you are an anti-vaxxer, birther, and/or brag about sexually assaulting women, the media will treat you harshly.

11:01--today's winner.

The only problem with your post is that it may assume that his supporters would want to defend him. They simply don't care how bad of a person he is.

Rage

wordkyle said...

Very much easier, because there are more examples. Plus the bias includes the media's silence on topics uncomfortable for Democrats. Obama's gifts to the Palestinians on his way out the door, for example.

Anonymous said...

I'm not uncomfortable with gifts to Palestinians.

Are Republicans uncomfortable with Israel selling our secrets on directional artillery to China? How about when Israel went rogue and blew the cover on one of the US's most significant electronic warfare operations in history that was actively suppressing Iran's ability to enrich uranium, leading to Russia (who was going to be the eventual target of similar operations, if necessary) getting its hands on the code used by the CIA/NSA?

Sorry if that's too much trolling for you.

Rage, Your lord and savior Obammy had no problem with China when it hacked into our system and stole personal information of all government employees but yet when Russia hacked the DNC he took swift action and booted their dignitaries out of the country. If you continue to be a basement dweller and cook French fries, your going to need a pink pussy hat.

With Aliens, or any movie set in outer space, your normal sane person can assume it isn't shot there. The production costs would be...astronomical!
According to HoHW's iMDB page, NO scenes were shot in Texas. It could have just as easily been based on hard times in N.Mex. But I guess "Texas Rangers" sounds more exciting than whatever state law agency they have next door. The Native American partner would have fit better there anyway. And maybe Hollywood feels cowboy bank robbin' here is an easy sell.

"That's the position them New Mexicans took!"
Triple Fake Marshal Rooster Cogburn
(see what I did there? Circled back and referenced a part also played by Jeff Bridges. Don't recall if he said that line in his version)

Rage, stay within the scope of the discussion. The discussion had been on Hillary & Trump, media, and media ignoring goofy things Obama did and then you jump to talking about something Israel did. Your debate skills are so weak, it's embarrassing for the libs you represent. Sheesh!!!

Anonymous said...

That's two posters who have no problem with Israel selling or disclosing our secrets (Palestine/Israel was the topic, 3:07, try to keep up). Y'all are real patriotic Americans.

Rage

Rage, if that's your real name, what I do have a problem with is Obammy giving Palestinians 221 million dollars as he's heading out the door. That was his last official act just as his first official act was to call the Palestinians. Sounds like a true American patriot to me!! When did you trade your tin foil hat for a pink pussy hat?

Thank you, Rage. You have a thankless job, trying to speak sense to people who are determined to exist in an echo chamber and deny anything that causes their worldview to tremble even just the smallest bit. So on behalf of the few, thank you.

How do you know Trump never laughs? You see a few seconds or minutes of his day as presented and framed by the media. We don't see you use the bathroom; so should we find it odd that you NEVER use the bathroom?
