Is He On Drugs?

He's advocating consequences which have been declared unconstitutional since 1989.

And this general theme that the soon-to-be leader of a country wants to crush and silence any dissent (whether it be by the public or, as shown last night, the media) is frightening.

With all of the things on his plate, why is he taking to Twitter at the crack of dawn to talk about a non-issue?

The DonaldTator has spoken. All hail His new flag burn rule.

When Donald Adolf Trump speaks, we must obey. If we need to get rid of the First Amendment to please the dear leader, so be it.

Or maybe he is just stirring the pot to rile up America hating liberals like yourself! Nothing he is doing is frightening, the media isn't being slilenced nor are the protesters who do burn the flag. The fact that you see it that way is the funniest part. Either you are purposely overreacting or you truly don't understand the sentiment of it and the mood of the country being tired of these do nothing crybabies taking to the streets in protest of things they aren't willing to work at to change.

There are true problems out there that need to be fixed but the movements to do so have all been hijacked by shameless self promoters, radicals and charlatans! So yes, we are fed up with the nonsense. Get real about your cause, clean up the violence and rhetoric, protest peacefully, don't shout down your opposition, lose the Sharpton's and Jackson's, don't burn the flag, stand for the anthem, and be willing to work the process to enact change not just create chaos that undermines your causes.

Ahhh, to the contrary, I think he's off his meds.

A loser named Joey Jump Up Johnson or some such burned a flag at the 1984 Republican Convention held in Dallas. Ragonk!

9:24 - You need to be careful, bro. I suspect you feel this way because you are not currently negatively affected by contemporary policy. If/when this tide turns on you, I suspect you would assign greater value to your civil liberties.

I know comparing Trump to the Nazis is both cliche and arguably extremism, but these types of changes happen incrementally and so innocuously that one day you wake up and you are behind a barbwire fence. To casually suggest that burning the flag gets you jail time and/or loss of citizenship is a huge deal. Do I approve of flag burning? Not really, but that is a protected right as an American. Allowing someone to burn the flag is exactly what it stands for. This is not Iran.

The Nuremberg Laws, and the Law Against dangerous Habitual Criminals stripped the Jews of their citizenship and sought to eradicate ne'er-do-wells; and this was done under a similar banner of Nationalism, at least in sentiment. After Nuremberg, over 100 laws and decrees were enacted, and people who had never considered themselves Jews found themselves labeled as Non-Aryans and subsequently outcast or incarcerated. Do a quick search on this and you'll find ample amounts of info on its development.

For me, while I may be on the "safe" side of all of this, it is still troubling. As a father, I have always taught mine to stick up for the little man; and as a citizen, I would be remiss to not fight against this type of dialogue. I once heard that the Constitution is not here to protect the strong and rich, but to protect the weak and poor. I believe this and suggest that we have a little compassion - even if it appears that the people we strive to protect are not protecting themselves.

Settle down, kids. You knew this was coming. The good news about Crazy winning is that 95% of the crap he wants to do won't/can't happen. Sit back and enjoy the entertainment provided by Crazy.

Remember this gem from Dec 2015?

One of the first things I’d do in terms of executive order if I win would be to sign a strong, strong statement that will go out to the country, out to the world, that anybody caught killing a policeman, policewoman, police officer — anybody killing a police officer: death penalty. It’s gonna happen. OK? We can’t let this go.

Source

HAHHAHHAHHAAAAA. All of you had to get a YUGE laugh out of that much crazy in one comment. Clearly, Trump has NEVER read the US Constitution or had it read/explained to him. For those of you who missed it. 1.) There are 19 states in the US that do not allow for the death penalty. 2.) POTUS doesn't set penalties for crime in US. 3.) POTUS doesn't have authority to set penalties for crime around the "world."

You need to slow your roll/STOP with the comparison of ANYONE, unless they've engaged in genocide and invaded, at least, a couple of countries, to Hitler/Nazis. You look like a moron and negate any point you're attempting to make when you equate the words of someone you merely dislike to the atrocities of Hitler/Nazis.
You're welcome.

Hillary is in favor of burning to death men, women, and children who do not obey. It's a matter of public record. Trump isn't even president yet and you ascribe crimes to him that pale in comparison to what Hillary has done. God save Donald Trump! To hell with progressive politics.

958 "comparing Trump to the Nazis is both cliche and arguably extremism" - Yes, it is, and it has become commonplace among those on the Left to make those comparisons. Not a single law or policy has changed because of Trump. The techniques being used more and more frequently by the Left exceed normal partisan fear-mongering to the point of being class-action public disorders.

On the other hand, universities have implemented restrictive speech codes ostensibly to "protect" porcelain students from hearing ideas they disagree with. Citizens have been hounded for using correct English because certain segments "thought" the terms sounded racist. Riots have occurred because the Left's chosen candidate lost an election. The incremental persecution you dread so much has already been going on, but it defies the caricature the Left so much wants to believe, so they've turned a blind eye to it.

Oh the tireless Nazi comparison, I just new somebody would go there. Nothing like that is anywhere close to happening in America. Not under Trump just like not under Obama. The nationalism at play in Germany was much different, it wasn't a melting pot with strong immigrant communities and a national identity built on opportunity and freedom.

I know, any white Republican from here on out will be called a Nazi...it's the new liberal playbook.

It's refreshing that Trump ignores politically correct critics and says what needs to be said.

No one who loves the USA should burn a flag without ramifications. Whether or not the law states that is irrelevant. It's disrespectful.

He's a renegade and rough around the edges..... but I love that he says what most of us are thinking and what politicians are scared to say publicly and how he thumbs his nose at the liberal political correctness of our day.

The pendulum swings hard away from the last 8 years.

When Hillary Clinton co-sponsored a Senate bill in 2005 to ban flag burning you liberals dismissed it as pandering-because it was! When Trump uses the same political tactics today it's the end of the world!! Just admit it, you liberals just got served up a taste of your own medicine! Trump used the leftist political playbook and won. First rule of that playbook, pander to the numbers!

Gary @ 9:58 and Anon@ 9:24 -you both have valid points and argue your different views admirably. While I sense the frustration in 9:24's views and yes people are a little done with the MOB rule, you must let them do there dirty little deeds or you become China.
Then again Gary you fall in the politically correct realm whereby you define anyone with beliefs "not like yours as Nazism or similar" where passage of one type of legislation erodes the belief system that was set up by the founding fathers because they assumed would always exist. Even our fearless host throws out the baby with the bath water if it impedes some liberal thought process that would give rights to one group while disenfranchising another. Example, you have the right to smoke but you cannot control the fact that everyone else will have to breathe (the exhaust) in one form or another. There is NO WAY to ever satisfy everyone on every point, NO WAY some group doesn't draw the short stick. Lately, the most hostile, most offended and loudest MOB gets the attention and later the laws that protect. BTW, never ever try to convince anyone that the liberal agenda is "more tolerant and non-violent" that just does not play out.
Trump is a knee jerk reactionary person that is mostly centrist which is why both sides are having a meltdown.
He furthers that by saying outlandish things about situations that piss him off, (like most the rest of you do) his result is he creates the jet.com head explosion because he knows you're all hanging on to every word. He'll be fine as President because even he knows his limits as President or he'll sure find out soon. So, put away your passport to Canada they don't want you either, don't order extra spray paint there won't be swastikas anywhere you don't put them. Relax....or not it'll be OK

10:41 - I agree, which I why I preempted my statements with the understanding that it is inflammatory, and extreme. I don't think Trump will commit genocide. That being said, I was trying to illustrate the similarities on incremental changes in law, and the subsequent outcomes. The rise of the Nazi party is the most obvious example I could think of. Either way, I am not sure calling me a moron helps our discussion.

11:05 - Thanks and well said.

Wordkyle - I was not aware of restricted speech at the universities, so I will look into that.

11:06 - Fair enough.

Lastly, I believe the right to burn the flag is important. I don't see burning the flag in my future, but I embrace the right to do so.

Old saying 2 wrongs do not make a right, Why is it every time someone points out the wrong of something Trump or the alt right says or does the most common response is well look at the liberals or Hillary or Obama. I say a pox on both , most of us are so polarized that the second we read anything critical of the side we support reading and comprehension stops. Seems like few people are willing to actually engage in civil conversations and actually listen to the other side . Showing my age but I long for the days I could watch and listen to the likes of William Buckley and Gore Vidal on Sunday morning calmly but passionately argue the issues of the day.

I don't have a major problem with flag burning, I just think it is least effective way to fight for your cause. If you hate America that bad I cannot take seriously that you are really invested in fixing the problems that you protest about. It just looks like you want to destroy America and take revenge on the people who support it.

Maybe so but in this climate you'd here them chant racist, narcissistic, misogynist and a plethora of politically motivated censorship directed at the person that most defied the movement of the moment.
We no longer have passionate dialog, we have accusation and innuendo. We have one sided media that control the volume of the discontent.

We have over-educated overzealous philosophers who monopolize the airways because they can thanks to being cast in a movie! We have volatile race relations that are inflamed by people with no dog in the race.(people not of the race offended).
We are on the brink of disaster and greatness at the same instant yet, we can't agree about the instant.

We older people can look at it with both hope and disbelief because the future is not ours and they will not listen to us any more than we listened to the ones before us, they will (I believe) figure it out after much growing pain. I hope we are here to see it pass...

1227 - "the likes of William Buckley and Gore Vidal on Sunday morning calmly but passionately argue the issues of the day" You do realize, don't you, that the most famous moment of their debates was when Buckley threatened to punch Vidal in the face? (After Vidal called Buckley a "crypto-Nazi.")

"I say a pox on both" - I'd agree with you if public treatment of differing beliefs was equal. However, the media trumpet the Left's message incessantly, to the point that regular people begin to believe the farcical false image of those on the Right that's been created. For example, you use the term "alt right" as though it has some sort of relevance to mainstream Republican opinion. That term was originated by extremists (who by definition are way out of the mainstream) in an attempt to legitimize their positions. The vast majority of those on the Right rejected that move, but Liberals and the media have accepted the bait. No one is normalizing the "alt right" except you.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,"

Speech that is popular (speech that the majority agree with) rarely, if ever, needs protection since, by definition, most people agree with it.

The test of first amendment's free speech clause is when speech that is disliked by the majority (like flag burning) is protected.

"Whether or not the law states that is irrelevant. It's disrespectful."

I have a couple of serious questions for you about this.

1. If something is not illegal, do you really think doing it should draw some sort of harm in response?

2. Is disrespectful enough to be illegal?

3. What respect does a person owe who has been crapped on by the system all his life? Do you not understand that a socioeconomic class (nothing to do with race) who consistently cannot get ahead in this country could deb a little resentful of it?

4. There have been lots of people talking about secession, especially had Hillary won. Is that not disrespectful? Traitorous, even?
