The Campaign For DA

12.04.2015

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • New CNN poll released this morning: Trump, 36%. Cruz, 16%, Carson 14%.  That is a mind-boggling lead. And it is December!! (Here is a fascinating grid of every candidate's share for every month since June. Trump had 12% in June.)
  • Sports: (1) I told you take take the under on the number of Cowboy wins. Winner! (2) I've got a witness up at the courthouse who I told in August that OU would win the Big 12. Winner. (3) I missed the over/under on TCU but it came down to double-over time and being short by a yard on fourth down. So Close To Being Winner. (4) This Vine of Rajon Rondo getting ejected is great.
  • I received in the mail a "prescription card" offering savings "up to 75%" for prescription costs not covered by insurance. There was no catch in any of the literature -- nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. I was so confused that I researched them. I'll be dang. It's legit - although the 75% is a rarity. Apparently the company, American Prescription Discounts, makes money from drug companies every time the card is used for one of its products. I still don't understand how they can make money, though. Edit: Maybe not as good as I thought, and they are in the business of selling your private info once you use the card.
  • A friend of mine and I were talking yesterday and we both had the same observation: There seems to a dramatic increase in the number of people who are suffering from so much anxiety that they are almost crippled by it. It's almost as if something weird is going on out there. She had a great sci-fi theory: That the country won't be attacked by bombs or troops but by contaminating the air or water supply to slowly disable the population. (That could be a movie.)
  • "Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland dead at 48." That news was everywhere this morning. I wouldn't have thought it would have been that big of deal.
  • The Rhome Police Chief has filed to run for Sheriff. You'll remember him from that city council meeting from earlier this year. The other candidate is former Texas Ranger Lane Akin.
  • I don't think I've ever felt as ill as I did on Thanksgiving Day. And I still think I'm only 75% now. (There's something unique about someone telling you that you "look awful". You don't want to look awful but it is re-assuring that you are in fact sick.)
  • Police killings based upon population of county across the nation: Dallas County comes in 7th and Tarrant County comes in 9th. Wow.
  • The Feds are now officially investigating Irving PD over the arrest of the Clock Kid.
  • Ticket fans only: Look what was found in Bowie.
  • I'm not very familiar with Fox News Kimberly Guifoyle but I saw her work late at night during the California Massacre. That girl could barely ask a coherent question. But she was hot.
  • Man, the Daily News goes full throttle . . .

"...contaminating the air or water supply to slowly disable the population." That would explain the American Liberal mindset. A person with a fully-functioning brain could never seriously espouse the things Liberals do. (e.g., "People want to kill Americans? Don't you dare talk bad about them!" or "Crazies are breaking the law to kill people? Let's make some gun control laws that they're sure to follow!")

Leave it to a left-wing rag not to know the difference between people with mental illness and Islamic Jihadists. Leave it to a left-wing rag to actually believe, merely because someone agrees with the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution, they're a mass murderer. I guess that means all the peaceful Muslims, who believe in Islam, are mass murderer.

Daily News is just more proof that Liberals/Democrats are clueless about how to approach and solve problems in the US.

Hmmmm, that daily News newspaper really explains the stupid liberal media thinking. Well, if terrorist ever get creative and incapacitate a city police department and then go on their killing spree, who do you think will take them out? That is correct. The armed citizens. As long as we stay armed.

9:25 -

For the sake of our country and its citizens, I hope your hero delusion never plays itself out.

Answer this: if a terrorist force was large and coordinated enough to incapacitate an entire city police department (assuming you mean more than just a 1-officer force in some hick town), what makes you think random citizens with guns--many of whom have little or no tactical training--could make any sort of real difference? How would they organize? Who would be in charge? How would they prove more effective than the police force that was completely incapacitated? Unless you're driving a BearCat and have fully auto weapons, the cops were probably better equipped than you.

If your answer is "Well, I'd be able to protect me and my family," then the answer is probably not - you'd just draw attention to you and your family, and you'd be overwhelmed and killed first. Because if a group that big and organized wanted to just wantonly kill ALL the civilians, they'd do it with a nuclear or biological weapon, not an armed force on the ground deep in enemy territory.

So stop with this fantasy where you're Rambo and you save the day because you have a 35-gun arsenal in your gun safe at home.

RE: Rhome Police Chief running for Wise County Sheriff.

Barry - Something has to be done so the citizens of Wise Co truly understand the character of this individual. He has a massive digital footprint going back to his days as a Rhome council person. You've even posted some of his antics. Of late he has been under investigation by the Mayor of Rhome for conduct unbecoming and insubordination. All anyone has to do is casually tour through the archives of the Wise County Messenger searching Rhome City Council, Rhome Police Department, and Brandon Davis. Then there is the 80+ pages of citizen charges filed against him and that were released AT HIS OWN request under a public records request. Those are scary and not just us trying to "witch hunt" him as he calls it. Initiating threatening calls to citizens; going to citizen homes with conduct that can only be described as intimidating; and interpreting the law to suit his own "witch hunt" style. Why this man has not been fired or at least put on administrative leave we do not understand. He is thick as thieves with those on the current Council, including his wife, who were the subject of an opinion request to the Texas AG until the Wise Co DA lost nerve and pulled the request. A group of us citizens lean to the conservative side of politics and tend to vote on the Republican side, although we vote for the person not the party. We are so disappointed in the Wise Co Republican Party assuming that they endorsed his candidacy. Don't they vet their candidates? Believe us if this person is elected it won't take even 6 months for him to be acting in the vigilante manner he has in Rhome. The County Commissioners and Judge literally won't know what hit them. The end result will be to tarnish the reputation not only of the Wise County Sheriff Department but the entire county that the establishment works so hard to keep polished. Please say that you will run for DA or County Judge and have the guts to stand up for the citizens of Rhome against open meeting violations of the Council and the vigilante actions of this person before he has the opportunity to create a mess of Wise County like he has contributed to in the City of Rhome . A VERY CONCERNED GROUP OF CITIZENS.

9:25 and 9:40 - this is not about some hero Rambo Red Dawn complex mentality. Get real. It is a mere statement that you don't cower down, give up, and accept defeat. But hiding and cowering down would be all you could do if you had no way to defend yourself. I would venture to say both of you are liberals, but will deny that. I would also venture to say that you are both the type of people, when the poop hits the fan, to expect someone else to 'fix' the problem.

Maybe you both are too young to remember the North Hollywood Shootout in the 90's where the police were out gunned for a long time until they raided local gun stores. After that, police dept's across the nation changed their patrol car arsenal for better preparedness. It is not a stretch to imagine that enough terrorists could temporarily disable a department or their equipment long enough to wreak havoc longer than the 2 did in CA this week. Hell, those people had numerous bombs.

I am by no means a survivalist or big gun collector. But at some point, people need to realize the threats terrorists pose and their abilities is going to only get worse and more aggressive.

Please put your heads back in the sand.

Agreed Andy Stevenson. I also read an article on how to protect yourself earlier today. It said most people freeze. The article stated you are responsible for yourself in mass shootings (duh). Always be aware of your surroundings and know where your exits are. Exits aren't only where you enter buildings. Go through employee only doors, kitchens, etc. First run if you can, second, hide and third fight. The article explained that many times you can survive with multiple gunshot wounds, so cowardly taking it the head shouldn't be an option. You would think you wouldn't have to explain that to people.

While I don't know the identity of 9:25, I'll bet that he/she hopes that scenario never plays out, either. But that hope doesn't prevent a prudent person from developing some plan of self defense should something happen. You may criticize that plan, but your lack of any plan at all does not put you in a better position.

So, if you were present at a place/time such as the Oregon college, or the offices at San Bernadino, or your home, etc., when person/s are approaching with intent to harm, are you telling me that you would prefer to have none of the innocents with you in that place to be armed and have even some limited skill and knowledge as to how to use their weapon? Please understand that I do not advocate that you go buy a gun. If you have none of that knowledge, I don't want you to be armed, either.

The elite in America, politicians and celebrities who choose to do so, are protected by armed professionals, even when they are in "gun free" zones. Hmm.

9:40 here -

10:56, it actually IS about some Rambo/Red Dawn complex mentality. 9:25 said: "Well, if terrorist ever get creative and incapacitate a city police department and then go on their killing spree, who do you think will take them out? That is correct. The armed citizens."

As written, this means 9:25 thinks that armed citizens are going to quash an organized terrorist force that has already defeated an organized law-enforcement agency/agencies.

And I am old enough to remember the North Hollywood shootout. You know what I also remember? That there weren't citizens taking up arms from those gun stores trying to take out the two bad guys. And 11:53 - there was at least one person at the Oregon college who had a concealed weapon. He didn't use it.

So what would I like? Well, I guess I want Seal Team 6 to be my personal bodyguards for the rest of my life. But that's not going to happen. What would I not like? To be stuck in a situation where someone has gained access to a gun that shouldn't have one and is using it to harm others - be they an ISIS terrorist or a domestic terrorist or a gang banger or just a moron who lacks the responsibility and/or skill to carry a gun.

So how about we have a reasonable discussion on ways to reduce gun violence (or all types - homicide, suicide, and accidental) instead of sticking our heads in the sand on THAT issue, 10:56. And, for what it's worth, I AM a liberal, and I do not want to take your guns. Reducing gun violence does not equal unilateral confiscation and disarmament of the citizens.

Millions of Americans simply want to protect our right to own a gun, which is why we support the NRA. We are not "gun nuts" for doing so and for many of us it was just a way of life growing up hunting. My fondest memories were in the field with my father, uncles and grandads. We are not complicit in any deaths related to gun crime and the more liberals try to paint us as such it is only going to dig us in deeper. If liberals would get out in the world, leave the city and visit us and try and understand where we come from maybe they would gain some respect.

I would vote for "common sense" gun laws in a heartbeat if I thought we could trust that it wouldn't eventually lead to confiscation. Obama and other liberals are way off message with voters on this. How can we trust folks that call for tolerance and understanding of the Muslim community (rightly so) after a terror attack, but do exactly what the opposite with American gun owners. The overwhelming majority of us are non-violent law abiding citizen's so why don't we get the same respect the Muslim community garners from the left. The point is, we see through to the true message which is that we are hated by the far left and that it it their own fault the cannot make headway on tightening gun laws. At this point, me voting for any gun control law would be like asking a Muslim to vote Republican, it ain't gonna happen because the left has tipped their collective hand!

FYI! There are actual factual REPUBLICAN Muslim organizations that are VERY patriotic as well as OPENLY condemn radical Islamic terrorists.

Muslims For America
Republican Muslim Coalition
Saba Ahmed

I realize, there's a segment of society who support Trump and believe ALL Muslims are terrorists. The same people believe, like Trump, that the families of radical Islamic terrorists, should be "wiped out." I'm certain that not a single Trump supporter would agree to be punished for the actions of any and all of their family members.

Keep in mind, when a society decides it's okay to punish an innocent person for the actions of someone with whom they're merely related/acquainted, no one and no level of bigotry is off limits.

Trump is nothing more than a bully with a microphone pandering to cowards, bigots and people dumber than dirt.

speaking of 80 page of complaints---does everyone know that complaints by the employees were requested to be written? yep that's right, they were ask to write "something, anything as long as it's negative" wonder why they are calling it a witch hunt? maybe if ex-employees and ex-officials weren't such bitter, hateful, spiteful people they would not keep telling lies to keep the citizens of Rhome pissed off at the council and police chief.

the ex-chief was a very nice person--he just didn't do the job he was paid to do. before you rally round and want him back try finding out how many of your complaints and reports were filed in a drawer and never given a second thought. at least the dept now, under Davis, is working those cases. I know if I call the PD and file a complaint that they will actually try to work the case, it won't just get "filed" and forgotten.

The daily news opinion that Syed Farook is another mentally ill nutcase shooter proving the NRA is the evil doer is a big lie. The left claim they support women and gay rights suppressed under radical Islam. Christianity is what they are determined to eliminate. It is a struggle between good and evil. Read Michael Walsh book The Devils Pleasure Palace speak to political correctness origins and how it allows the problems (terrorism) not to be addressed allowing radical Islamic terrorism to expand and theater our homeland. Jesus said we are with him or against him. I believe our president is on the wrong side.

Rhome has too much nepotism with a chief who has a spouse on the council. They always had someone related to an official working for the city in the past, and it's never been good for citizens. It has always given a good ol boy club type impression. This isn't the first case of nepotism, and sad for Rhome because it probably won't be the last.

4:53, Obama is on the wrong side. That is exactly the reason that the framers of the Constitution required that the President be a natural born citizen. This class of citizen was defined by the Supreme Court:

“The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.” Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162, 168.

It says "with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar" What was the common law definition when the Constitution was written? The definitive answer is in Emer de Vattel's "Laws of Nations", the book that was in the libraries of the framers.

Note that it says "parents" not parent nor one of the parents. So both mother and father are required to be citizens. Vattel's reasoning was that with a parent from a foreign country the loyalty of the President could be elsewhere.

I hope this country can hold on for another 14 months and that it can recover from the damage. Maybe we won't get another President with one of their parents born outside of America.

I have little to add but felt it required (in light of all the hub-bub about the Rhome Police Chief to which I have zero knowledge) to throw out the name John Wesley Price which is Dallas's equivalent (seems like)

I will also comment that while an ardent gun collector and owner,
I have never had much use for the NRA as I believe they are radical.
I will never support any group that believes "Everybody" has a right to own ground to air missile launchers and possess small amounts of nuclear capable armaments.
