The Campaign For DA

7.24.2015

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • A guy opened fire in a Louisiana theater last night killing two, wounding nine, and then killing himself.  He was 59 years old.
  • Had a big religious discussion last night. Genesis 1:26 says, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."  Us? Our? I'm not sure I had ever noticed that before.  Most people explain the terms as referring to The Trinity.
  • But I did sidetrack the discussion by asking if Adam and Eve had belly buttons.
  • Trump still leads in the Republican polls.  I thought he was just doing this run as a bit, but now I think he believes he can actually win.  It's the Angry White Male constituency last stand.
  • And he threw out a huge threat yesterday by implying he might run as an independent. Think about that. He just explained to any Republican candidate who opposes him that he holds his fate in his hands. Trump would at least take  3% to 5% of the Republican vote and single handedly guarantee the Republican candidate would lose. This is shaping up to be the most bizarre presidential campaign in history.
  • There's a "confederate" flag flying on College Street in Decatur but it has a symbol of a motorcycle in the middle of it.
  • Southwest posts best quarter profit ever, American Airlines posts best quarter profit ever, and Amazon made a net profit of $92 million causing its share price to jump a shocking 17% in after hour trading.  Tell me again about how our economy/employment is really in the dump?
  • The medical examiner concluded Sandra Bland died of suicide. All signs point to that. But, as I rant about this for the millionth time, isn't the only thing the corner can conclude is that she died from asphyxiation?

Barry once again shows his inability to understand public policy and economics.

At least he is asking for help this morning.

It looks like the Louisiana shooter may have been involved with the Tea Party, according to early reports.

If true, then congratulations are in order for the mainstream media and progressive liberals.

You FINALLY got what you wanted!

Gen. 1:26 One of the many scriptures that prove the trinity doctrine is false and that most of christianity has been worshiping a false god for about 1800 years. And yes, Adam and Eve had a belly button.

"This is shaping up to be the most bizarre presidential campaign in history." ??

Do you not remember the election of 1992 where Ross Perot gave us Bill Clinton? And that has caused us to now be faced with Hillary. You talk about bizarre!

Barry hears about three companies that had good first quarter profits and he thinks that means the economy is doing great.

Sadly, there are a lot of geniuses like Barry out there.

So, you are using the results of two airlines, who have reaped the benefits of low fuel costs from fracking, and not passed on the savings to the consumer...you use that to say the economy is...good?

You think that somehow makes up for the fewest people working since Carter? The most people living in poverty...since...

You think that somehow covers 18 trillion in debt?

I obviously have not had enough coffee.

Very classy RTG!

The early chapters of Genesis can be confusing (translated or untranslated) because some of the terms can be plural or singular.

The term used for "Adam" early on appears to be plural.

And the word "Elohim" is used for the Creator God, and that is definitely plual. It doesn't switch to Yahweh until after the Creation is complete.

El was a Canaanite god, and Elohim was the circle of gods around him. It is almost certainly what the "we" refers to.

I currently work in Houston which is Texas' "sanctuary city. I work with many US born and raised people of Mexican decent. They support Trump. They are tired of being automatically assumed to be here illegally even by other Latinos. This is not solely an angry old white man issue.

One of the reasons Trump is doing so well is that as a showman and TV producer he is so adept and comfortable in dealing with the media as a part of his business. He rarely deals with a question head-on. Ask him about disparaging a POW veteran and he turns it into a question about taking better care of veterans. He also likes to say, "people tell me" without referring to any factual support backing up his statements.

He's definitely winning the battle with the press. They don't know how to deal with him or how to pin him down, but they absolutely love covering his Vegas style campaign.

If he can secure enough delegates in the primaries he should have something of value that he can use to extort the front runners with... "My delegates go to you, if you agree to...[VP, cabinet position, ?]" Its all The Art of the Deal

I think he will do great in the debates because he's figured out that if he can appeal to the angry white male voter with the right I'm-not-go-take-it-anymore message, they will overlook all of his clownish buffoonery.

Do you have some kind of bet on whether charges will be filed in the Bland case? Seems like you are still trying to stir the pot by casting doubt about the circumstances of her death.
And why was there a trash bag in her cell anyway? How much trash does one produce in jail that a trash bag is necessary?

You are correct Barry. Genesis 1:26 is indeed speaking of the Trinity. God does not require His creation to believe in him. Their free will allows them to wonder the earth just thinking the universe just happened somehow. The important thing is the Creature knows we exist...not much is expected from humanity.

If Donald Trump somehow wins the Republican nomination he will be "trumped" bigger than Mondale or McGovern. He may not get a single electoral vote. I, who have voted for only one non-Republican candidate in my entire life (a personal friend who was a good man), will not vote for Donald Trump. I'd vote for a Libertarian first or even a Democrat (except Hillary) before I'd vote for Trump. Heck I guess I'd write in Barry before I'd vote for either Trump or Hillary.

The founder of the Westboro Baptist Church; Fred Phelps, was a Democrat. He ran for office once as a Democrat in Kansas. He was also a well-known civil rights attorney prior to his activities with his so-called church and was given an award by his local chapter of the NAACP for his work with minority clients. He was in no stretch of the imagination affiliated with Republicans or the mainstream right wing. This loser's rants show he was a nut with opinions that were all over the political spectrum. When do you ever hear a Republican supporting the policies of Iran? He was a deranged loser who was mad at the world.

1003 - I know, it seems like a lot, doesn't it? 110 million Americans receive some form of "means-tested" welfare benefit from the federal government. Add in Medicare and Social Security and the total is around 153 million. That's pretty nearly one-half of Americans who receive a significant portion of their income from government assistance, right? And that is a lot, isn't it?

10:16 The trinity basically defines god as being one god that manifests himself in three different alias beings, namely - the father, the son and the holy ghost. The one in three/ three in one deal. But when an individual reads the bible honestly, it definitely puts forth the idea that there are three gods in what might be called the godhead, but the one god we worship and have to do with is god the father.

Quick few examples: Gen. 1:26; Gen. 3:22; Jesus' baptism:Jesus in river, holy ghost descends like a dove, father speaks from heaven.; when Jesus prayed-to whom was he speaking?-according to trinity himself. In gethsemane he prayed "not my will, but thine be done." Two different "will's". John 14:28 Jesus says his father is greater than him. On the cross, he said "my my god, why hast thou forsaken me". According to trinity, did he forsake himself? Just in the gospel of John, Jesus said "he that sent me" (or something similar) about 40 times. When someone is sent to do something, it always involves at least two parties, but not with the trinity, Jesus sent himself to earth. Want more? just let me know.

The trinity also says god is a spirit without body parts or passions. Well, as I have read, Jesus was resurrected with a new body of flesh and bones. He showed them his body and they felt of it and the tomb was empty. Remember! Is the trinity saying he didn't keep his body? If not, then what's the big deal with the resurrection and Easter etc.

The trinity is a false man-made doctrine that is not biblical.

Denton police tasing incident update:
story in the FWS-T today says that officers' body cams indicate they told the "victim" to move back thirty times before he got lit up. And that he didn't even know the woman they were trying to subdue!
Because that's what the sensible citizen would do just rolling up on that situation. Try to stop the police from doing their jobs, right?
The Denton chapter of NAACP was all set to stage a protest...until they were presented with the video footage. They seem satisfied that the officers' actions were justified.

1:42: There's no question the concepts developed. By the time John wrote his Gospel, there was a pretty good sense of the theology of Father and Son, but it wasn't until 325 that the relationship between the two was really set out explicitly. The Arian controversy of the pre-Nicene era is pretty fun stuff if you've got the time to read it.

That being said, the Genesis material is really NOT widely viewed as referring to the persons of the Trinity. The word "Elohim" is the plural terms and VERY likely refers to the (Canaanite) divine council of El.

But I don't consider using mythological literary forms and language as hurting the faith in any way

Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes are taxes just like any other. And, as the Supreme Court has noted, these taxes are to be paid into the Treasury like internal-revenue taxes generally. (Some are earmarked to go into the Medicare Trust Fund.) In other words all taxpayers are paying for at least some of the benefits that go to those who receive them. The government takes, and then redistributes as it sees fit, in the form of government "assistance."

And Katy, since you decided to open this door, I'll remind you once again to pay attention to what I actually say, and not become crazed over what your mind creates out of thin air (as you have done before.) My "nearly half of Americans" observation is markedly different from your "most of America."

It's really amazing how many close-minded "Christians" fail to read right there in their own dang Bible at the very beginning that first God created human males and females, and had them multiply and then later, Adam and Eve; the first humans that could "till the soil". The Bible does not report Adam and Eve as the first people. Not for a second. Just amazing. And if only more people would realize this, Christians would have a much easier time with all that evolution stuff, not to mention how Cain found a wife over in the Land of Nod.

Bear said...

As a Wordkyle fan, I am afraid I will have to agree with the detractors this time. Social Security that I and my employer have paid into our entire working lives is one of the few "entitlements" that we are actually entitled to.

But, there are a lot of people getting "handouts" from the "government" and chose not to work instead.

I believe the only true entitlements are Social Security at retirement, Veterans benefits and Medicare at retirement. All others are handouts and should be treated by the recipient as gifts from the American taxpayer. If you want to continue to receive these "gifts" then you should do something to earn them or at least be outwardly grateful to the taxpayer for providing these gifts that are handed out by politicians for votes.

Anonymous said...

It's fun to ask a Christian, when he or she is slamming evolution, to explain the white, tan, black, red, brown and yellow people on earth. Since we don't evolve...uh...how the heck did white, curly blonde haired Adam that we see in the Bible (usually with a belly button for some reason) become that Amazonian lost tribe leader with a bone in his face?

It is my understanding that there are many "heavenly host(s)" and it seems God had/has a purpose for all of them. 1/3 were cast out of heaven.

God has used these beings to carry out His will, on earth and heaven. So when the Word speaks of "us" and "our", I believe it is saying He was not alone during the creation.

That's just my take today, it could change tomorrow.

Alexander Tytler said that in a democracy voters will vote for the candidate that promises the most handouts from the public treasury and that limits the life expectancy of a democracy to 200 year. So America is past due for the same sad end as we see coming in Greece.

Katy Anders said...

I know what you said, sir, and it was wrong. A common misunderstanding that people who like to lecture without looking up the actual answer sometimes make.

But like I said, it's not about your being right or wrong. It is about raining dozens of comments down on everyone else's heads, both as "anonymous" and "wordkyle," every single day. It's about finding a misspelled word or something to then zero in on rather than simply admit you were wrong and move on. And it's about spiking the ball when you beat other commenters into submission with your increasingly irrelevant side points.

Here, once again, you said something incorrect.

When called on it, you criticized me for a tangential point.

You could just say, "Oops, yeah, messed up on that." But this online ego thing won't let you. It's utterly asshole behavior, it's every single damn day, to the point where you've made the comment section of this page unreadable. You could go get a hobby or hell, I don't know, post something on your own page, but no, let's completely monopolize this guy's page.

It's Barry's page, and he clearly deems it worthy of his time to approve the dozens and dozens of comments and follow-up abuse you post here every day, but over the recent months, your infantile behavior has increased to the point where you must ONLY be doing this. Full-time. 10 hours day. 7 days a week.

So now you can make fun of me for getting mad, which is always a great victory for obnoxious trolls on the internet. (Plus, there might have been one day when you only posted 11 comments, which makes my reference to dozens of comments wrong!)

But yes, I am a little mad, because I have been coming to this page for 4 1/2 years, and I won't come here again, because your pseudo-intellectual schoolyard bullying and trolling of other commenters is not being addressed.

Clearly, this page is yours. It belongs to you now. Barry merely hosts it for you so you can lecture people.

Congratulations.

Anybody else ever want to say hi to me, y'all know where to find me.

After sleeping on it, I decided to address this.

I have definite opinions, and rigorously defend them. Those who disagree with me often feel compelled to attack me personally rather than present evidence as to why they disagree. I respond as I feel is appropriate, and not always with kindness in my heart.

Although I have no intention of being someone’s punching bag, I also have no intention of making anyone else feel as though they’ve been bullied or victimized. This being the internet, I assume that someone who is confident enough to call me names is strong enough to take my response. That’s not always the case.

Similar to her, I’m also curious why Wordy hasn’t started his own blog site since he seems to disagree with virtually everything that’s posted here.

When viewers watch a news station they constantly disagree with they change the channel; when they read a newspaper they regularly disagree with they cancel their subscription. Wordy keeps returning here.

I wouldn’t change my political or religious views based on the musings of an anonymous commenter so I don’t see what he accomplishes though his comments here that couldn’t be more effectively served by setting up his own blog.

I believe that if Wordy were to produce his own competing blog it would be hugely “entertaining” and garner a surprising number of viewers.

Katy, My point was that Christianity balks at the idea of more than one god, to the point of exclaiming “blasphemy” to anyone who might go there. Yet the scriptures clearly point out that there is more than one god. The problem developed in the post apostolic era of whether or not Jesus was a god and if so this created quite the dilemma in maintaining monotheistic principles in the church. The councils, under the direction of Constantine, developed this crazy idea of the trinity in the 3rd century and if you read the creeds that came out of those councils it is more than obvious that they are not “explicit”. They are nonsensical, confusing and illogical and absolutely false. It was a feeble attempt to maintain monotheism while recognizing that according to scripture there is more than one god.

In Gen.1:26 it says, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. Then in Gen. 3:5 the serpent tells Adam & Eve that if they partake of the fruit “….ye shall be as the gods, knowing good and evil.” Then God confirmed that by saying in Gen. 3:22 “Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil”. Christianity wants to maintain the idea that there is only one god, yet these verses clearly denounce the doctrine laid out in the trinity as does the rest of the Bible. If Jesus is a god and his father is a god, that’s at least two gods right there. Plus the holy ghost as a god as well.
