Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • "I'm not supersticious but I am a little sticious." - Michael Scott from The Office.
  • Finally had to water my lawn last night, and when I went to turn it off, I worried for a second about snakes. And then I went to be and dreamed about snakes. Big ones.
  • The Texas Rangers wore the ugliest caps ever last night.
  • Motorcycle death yesterday.
  • Just last month I was praising how green it was outside. Now it's as brown as I've ever seen it on June 1st.
  • I was remiss in not pointing out that the bagofnothing.com guy and his wife celebrate the birth of their first child over the weekend.
  • I felt weird yesterday. Not sick, just jittery.
  • I woke up in the middle of the night last night and watched part of a cable movie called "Obsessed" (starred Beyonce) which was about a temp stalking her employer. It was exactly like the 1993 movie "The Temp" (starring Lara Flynn Boyle) which was about a temp stalking her employer.
  • They've run out of movie ideas, haven't they?
  • The Supreme Court modified Miranda yesterday saying that police no longer need to ask a suspect if he wishes to give up those rights before questioning begins. It was a 5-4 decision, and I'm sure The Right will just consider this to be "interpreting the law" and not "making law."
  • But Miranda may also be the misunderstood decision by the public because it seems 50% of my new clients are excited to tell me "they didn't read me my rights!" Answer: They don't have to unless (1) you're in custody, and (2) they wish to question you.
  • I've got jury duty next week!
  • Every time Tony Romo is interviewed he says "We just need to keep working hard and improving."

Hollywood has run out of original ideas for movies now. Why do you think most movies nowadays are either sequels or re-hashing of old movies or TV series?

OFFICE CLOSED – The Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace office is closed today for the funeral of Ramona Miller, Judge Terri Johnson’s grandmother.

What the heck is that? Terry Johnson closes a county office because of her grandmother's funeral? LMAO What a joke.

That means you're gay.

There are thousands of movies that are original. IMDB lists 6,579 titles released in 2009. The sequels and rehashes get all the press, but there are plenty of original movies. (However, original does not always mean good.)

BG, given your remark regarding "the Right" and Miranda, what is your argument that the decision "makes law?"

I LOVE that you have jury duty. However, I doubt that you'll be picked. I've never been called, but man - would I dig serving. Yeah - I know, weird.

Why do people charged with an offense who show up for court look like they had something to do with what they're charged with?

Don't lawyer types usually get a pass when it comes time for jury duty? Seems like they wouldn't want you jiggering up the proceedings during deliberations

I liked the overall look the Rangers had last night - red, white, and blue. But the pattern on the cap logo was too much. A solid color would have looked better

So...you've noticed that it was nice and green in the spring, and now that it's getting hotter, you've noticed that everything is turning brown. Brilliant observation! You're a freakin' land-locked Jacques Cousteau
"Zee once verdant plant life is taking on more of a sepia tone. Water is not in abundance here. Why am I wearing zees stupid scuba gear in zee middle of a cow pasture? Oooh, now I remember. It eez because of zee smell. Sacre moo!"

If I ever go on trial for anything I hope that most of my jury pool is comprised of defense lawyers.

I'm all for Romo improving...just so long as it's football-related. He was talking football, right?
1. I don't care if he improves his golf handicap
2. I don't care if he gets a better karaoke gig singing with some spare band
3. I don't care if he trades up for a better pick in the Hot Girlfriend Draft.
I also don't care if it means his personal stats improve, unless that correlates to playoff wins. That's the only improvement he needs to work on
PLAYOFFS!?!
PLAYOFFS?!?

as usual your comment didn't add anything to this blog. You're gonna need a miracle during the final to pull a passing grade out of your @$$

Ummmm, where is Miranda law? the whole darn "reading your rights" is from a court making a new "law". Miranda rights is a good "law", but made by the courts to begin with.

Im pretty sure their reference was to the shutting down of a whole county office for the JP's grandmothers death. Not her taking her time off. Kind of seems wastefull for everyone in a government run office to take off the whole day.

I was finished with testifying on a DWI trial once, and that day my grandmother-in-law passed away.
The female judge told me too bad, I had to stick around for the rest of the trial and miss her funeral. I almost got divorced over that. So........tuff titty judge. Get back to work - forget the funeral.

As much as they are running out of movie ideas they are often rehashing the same ideas with minority headlining actors to utilize that demographic.

Question.... If you were pulled over for DUI suspicion and then stepped out of the car and drank say 1/2 bottle of whiskey, how could they prove you were drunk when you were driving? Seems like the subject in yesterdays post would have not been charged with a dui if a empty alcohol container had been in his car.

i thought they only had to read you the miranda rights only if they plan to use what you say against you in court. so if a cop and 100 witnesses observe you intruding through the backdoor, there's no need to mirandize because they dont need anything you say for a conviction.

Random Wednesday's facial expression looks like she's trying to float an air biscuit. Random Tuesday is so fine!

I've known many people who were off work for their grandmother's funeral. The people complaining about this probably call in sick for a stress day.

The Romo's problem is that he's not a team leader. He doesn't have the respect of the team. Proof: The saints never were worth a crap until they got a QB that was a team leader but that was something that Brees had to develop. Romo has talent but sometimes a person needs to work on themselves not their talent in order to do better.

12:05 You so missed the point of the whole argument. What a dufas.

Anonymous said...

To you dense ones out there....they're not talking about the chick taking off for her granny's funeral!!! They're talking about an entire OFFICE taking off for something like that, which is just ridiculous! Get a freaking grip, you saccharine-coated fruitloops.

Anonymous said...

BG if you want to get out of jury duty just tell them you get your news from BG's blog. LMAO

Anonymous said...

12:54 quit your complaining. I do understand the argument. It's one that a "dufas" (doofus) would make. I'd rather be what you consider a "dufas" (doofus) than a negative, unsypathetic, bitter person. I guess it's a doofus calling me a dufas.

Just want to give a big thumbs up to Rann Elementary school for earning Exemplary Status by TEA based on their tax scores! This is based on preliminary reports, that will be posted later this summer. Congrats to all Rann staff! Guess it's not so bad over there after all...

Well, from one doofas to another. I sure hope Ms. Johnson didn't give her employees who were non-related to the grandmother a PAID day off.

wow guess no one works in a place where everyone is close, too bad. My boss shut down our office for my uncles funeral we were very close and my boss knew I would need the support. It was the same way funeral in Wise County and burial several hours later out of town. It meant more to me than any flowers sent, food brought or anything else my coworkers and boss could have done for me or my family. I think she must have a great staff to think that much about her, no wonder she won re-election.

You can get out of jury duty like Sara Silverman said she did once. She said she wrote "I like chinks" on her jury paperwork and mailed it in that way. Of course she is a major liberal bigot, so it's okay for her to do that.
