Braggart

I am pleased to announce that I just finished the 8 mile Dallas Turkey Trot in 1 hour 10 minutes and 2 seconds. And now my body hurts. Badly. Two observations: (1) There's nothing fun about being passed by guys or girls wearing T-shirts with motivational sayings on the back (i.e. "Pain is weakness leaving your body" - sheesh, tell that to my left thigh that is on fire) and (2) I never wanted a camera more than when I was passed at the five mile mark by a guy wearing nothing but a speedo (a tight speedo) who had glued or pinned actual bird feathers to his butt to resemble a turkey's backside and who was carrying a full sized American flag. Now that made me laugh.

Take Motrin or Celebrex if you can. When I did the Marine Corps Marathon I had a stress fracture in my right leg. Caused me to overcompensate with my left. Messed up my left knee bad. Anti-Inflammatories and ice are your best bet.

I'm impressed!! But wouldn't trade my day of laying around, hanging out with family and eating more than I usually do in a week!

You made me feel horribly guilty. I haven't worked out in weeks. I am wondering if I really am going to do the Cowtown Marathon. I am sure I could do the half but I really wanted to do the whole thing.

I am still trying to figure out how to do it by myself. In the past, I ran with friends and we kinda looked after each other afterwards. You never know afterward if you are even going to be able to drive. All you really know is that you will be sore and hungry. Also, I am going to have to get someone to watch my son for the time it takes to do the run itself.

But, like anything else you have to just figure out a way. One way or another I will do this. At least the half.

Good stuff! Way to get off the couch and away from the computer screen. Wish I were more motivated. In 2002, I did a 1/2 marathon and it was without a doubt one of the most miserable experiences of my life. I so wanted to be a runner...I ended up being a casualty.

Andria,

Don't give up just start slower. Don't increase mileage or speed by more than 10% a week. Listen to your body. I wish I were young enough and carefree enough to be able to run like I used to.

I used to live in San Antonio and I worked off of Westover Hills Blvd. I would run from my office at lunch out to the gates of Sea World then around and back. It was about 5-6 miles. I ran up on a dead cougar hit in the road one day. After that I always took a buddy. It has all built up there now though. Don't give up.
