The Campaign For DA

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • The Southwest Airline engine explosion and related death is simply horrifying. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be on that plane. I can't imagine what it is like to be the husband of the woman who died after almost be sucked out of the plane.
  • The pilot, who just happens to be a female, can truly be classified as a hero to get that thing safely on the ground. (And I say that with the firm belief that the term "hero" is thrown around way too loosely these days.)
  • For those of you who fly every now and then, look at this:
  • Side note: If I think I'm going to die, I'm not taking photos.
  • A new trend I've noticed from watching too many Wise County DWI videos: Law enforcement has gone to using cell phones to communicate to each other instead of the traditional way over the radio where the public, if they have a scanner, can hear. I wonder why? (That's rhetorical.)
  • This is what is called "jumping ship." He is the worst DA in Texas and perhaps the worst in the history of Texas.

  • I meant this to make this a bullet point yesterday. Putin owns Trump.
  • Trump's a "Spy"? And "more a Spy than he is"? He's losing it.
  • How's that Trump appointed Supreme Court judge working out for ya?
  • Trump immediately got mad about it:
  • Barbara Bush was a national treasure. As is her husband. As is her son. I think I finally understand the Simon and Garfunkle song Mrs. Robinson which had the line of, "Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio? A nation turns our lonely eyes to you."
  • Nice job from the White House for botching their acknowledgement of the death of Mrs. Bush.
  • "At the end of your life you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent.” - Barbara Bush (1990).

Most police radio traffic is now being encrypted per post-911 emergency management protocols being pushed by the federal government.

Scanners are becoming more and more obsolete.

Long conversations tie up the radio when it needs to stay open for dispatching, emergencies, etc.

You're such a conspiracy theorist.

Always wear seat belts when seated on the plane. There are reasons.

Bobby Laurie does not understand that selfies are the only thing that matters in life to most Americans. They'll die by the tens of thousands rather than stop taking them.

Haley should quit, she's lost her rep thanks to the WH.

I haven't thought about Mrs. Bush in many many years, but it made me sad to hear about her yesterday. The Bushes came from a time when reputations meant more than being the most successful partisan troll, I think. Maybe it's the 25-year perspective from when she was at all involved in politics, but my opinion of her and her family has certainly improved over the years.

Sounds like you disagree with the S. Ct immigration decision

I'm surprised. I'm waiting for one of the liberal justices to cross over

Not a hero. Just a pilot. But her actions represent what every single pilot has trained for from their first day at a major airline. She did what she had been taught from day 1. When you buy a ticket, this is what you’re paying for. Not the peanuts!

Barbara Bush was a quality person. Genuine, sharp tongued, honest, compassionate, and a person of character. We will miss her.

I'm a pilot. If I lost an engine and did an emergency landing, I would not think of myself as a hero. Not like I had much choice in the matter.

George W Bush is a "national treasure"?? have you lost your mind?

In every DWI video, get the names of everyone who appeared on it, and their cell numbers and get who they called or received calls from. They don't get to work around accountability by using cell phones. It's not to keep from being overheard, it's to keep the data from appearing on their MDTs. I've had cases dropped in some areas because they didn't want to give up the numbers that may have included task force or snitch information.

Dubya is a national treasure? As is her son is the dumbest comment ever made anywhere.

Did you mean Neil Bush?

Did the woman who died have her seatbelt on? I would like to know that. And inquiring minds want to know, if you are a "larger" person, there is no way in heck I would fit through a window. Would that have helped me in that situation? Wowzers. Whoda thunk?

The national treasure George H.W. Bush has been accused of groping 8 females including a 16 year old girl in 2003. Allegedly groped.

Gorsuch is not an activist justice unlike all of the liberals on the court!

The one thing I hate about America is that we routinely let people attack us or take advantage of us because of our freedoms. There are ways to keep our freedoms intact but still deal with the garbage. Laws and courts don't work anymore, time to take justice into our own hands!

Sully once said something to the effect of "Pilots spend years making deposits. Deposits of training, skill and experience. All of this for that day they make one huge withdrawal."

BTW, the SWA pilot was a former F-18 driver.

Now comes the question, was the work farmed out to a lowest bidder foreign maintenance crew like the mechanics union has been warning of?

Anonymous said...

Why is this pilot a hero to you but Sully Sulenburger wasn't? Exploiting identity politics again I see!

In my world they are both heros.

I've noticed a trend on social media in regards to Barbara Bush news. All the libs over 50 or so send out some basic empty condolences (thoughts and prayers style) like what BG did, but all the libs in their 30's on down are saying good riddance and mocking the Bush family. This is what scares me about the future more than anything!

Anonymous said...

10:36am - If that scares you more than what the 10:26am nut job wrote, then I suggest stepping back and revaluating your priorities.

10:26 was spot on.

Trump caused the plane crash, so the news would lay off of him some. Ole dirty cracka....

Anonymous said...

10:19, actually Explosive Decompression doesn't care how big you are. Depending on altitude and pressure of plane, it can be what is called the sausage grinder effect. Basically, the unfortunate passenger will be forced through the small opening much like ground sausage being forced into a casing. Nasty stuff.

I bet Gary Kelly settles the mechanics contract pretty soon. This has drug on for years. Do you want engine work done in Guatemala or Texas and Arizona?

Who would want the McLennan County D. A. Office on their resume? Seems like it would lead to many folks looking askance at their credentials.

"Simon and Garfunkle song...A nation turns our lonely eyes to you."
Nitpicking here, but it's Garfunkel; and "A nation turns ITS lonely eyes to you"

"How's that Trump appointed Supreme Court judge working out for ya?"
When he says this: “Vague laws invite arbitrary power” to justify his stance, then I'd say he's working out nicely.
And Trump wasn't mad about the ruling. He's laying the blame where it belongs: "Congress must close loopholes" and "can only be fixed by Congress"

Trump's a "Spy"?
Read between the lines, man!
He's the CIA director's boss, which means he's ultimately responsible for all spy business.
Or, he's saying he isn't a spy at all, which means the pastor isn't a spy, either.
You're losing it

I would wonder if more defense attorneys would subpoena those cell phones and their records, if that would make them think twice about being on them during "the business of their traffic stop"?

You realize Barry's staff consists of 1 person, right?

Anonymous said...

LOL, "only be fixed by Congress".

We're screwed, then. They had both houses and the presidency, and haven't killed Obamacare--which they all ran on doing.

When the law is struck down as unconstitutional, that's more than a loophole. It would basically take an amendment to fix it. And if they can't kill the most hated legislation in the history of America, they sure as Hell won't be able to amend the constitution.

Not too many jabs thrown around here today. Everybody worn out after yesterday's kerfuffle?

I think BG should get her DNA analyzed and get a breakdown of her ethnic heritage! Anything above 70% white and he has to fire her unless she is willing to take a black husband! It's the only fair thing to do.
