Hey, You Wise County Old Timers!

Who remembers the proposed "Satellite City" development that was proposed in 1974? This is the plat. It was supposed to be on 2264 north of Decatur. Edit: Make that south of Decatur. I was temporarily directionally challenged.

It never happened. I'm not sure I've ever heard about it.

Look at it (if you can see it.) A ton of homes. Golf course. Hospital. Retirement center. And more.

Can you imagine how stupid, reactionary and negative the old timers here would have been in 1974? No wonder it failed.

I'd look at it but I suck at handstands.

If u bought a 2 acre lot u had access to the best fishing lake in North Texas. President of corporate bailed out with secretary, bankruptcy was next. Property deeds were given to all land buyer's, then u owned land with no access. Today there would be indictments everywhere.

Was supposed to be the 1st New Fairview, no mobile homes.

They renamed it to New Fairview.

I definitely remember that and was thinking about that just the other day. There was an entrance to Satellite City off of 287 for years. Not sure if it's still there or not.

Okay Barry. You're testing us, right? It's upside down.

The signs used to be up on 287 at the entrance. I think only a couple of houses were ever built there, seems like one of my friends from the Class of 1979 at Decatur lived in one of the houses.

from WCM clipping, dated 7/20/72:
Satellite City is a planned residential, recreational and business community covering approximately 2,500 acres of the Sondra Lin Ranch, property formerly owned by J.H. Hampton. It is about four miles southeast of Decatur.

Isn't the entrance those weird looking giant slabs on the East side of 287, a few miles South of town?

4:09 - yep, that's the entrance. Used to have "Satellite City" on them.

NORTH of Decatur? Barry, it's 5 O'clock somewhere, get outta here!!!

Fantastic place to swim and fish into the 80s.
The whole place flooded in 1980? There were a couple of cars and a pickup flooded there. We swam out to them and dove off them.

The End
Ps: Buyerninety- yes you are correct.

Seewead is something else.

This old-Decatur-native remembers it quite well. A big to-do about what became nothing.
Most of the land owners have had no access to their land all these years. No roads were ever built.

I attended some great parties out at Satellite City Lake back in the early to mid 90's.

used to be a cabnet shop in the old ranch house there

When I was in high school in the 90's, we used to go out there and have field parties. I don't recall seeing any houses out there though.

Satellite City was quite a scam.

I've heard recently that someone might be developing it. Probably won't be called Satellite City.
