Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • I am at a loss for words that Trump went completely off script yesterday and equated Nazi Protesters to Nazis. And he did it with extreme passion.
  • I am also at a loss for words that anyone -- and I mean anyone -- would defend it. At least we are learning people's true colors. Mark Davis. Everyone on the morning show on WBAP. Fox News (which initially desperately tried to act like it didn't happen).
  • After I watched the remarks in full, I was positive his presidency was over. There is no way someone can say that and survive. Now I'm not so sure.
  • I forgot to mention this yesterday:
  • The Blues Brothers scene where Jake and Elwood drive into a bunch of "Illinois Nazis" sure feels different now.
  • Is it just me or is the standard portion of food that a restaurant serves enough for two meals?
  • Tom Cruise was injured while filming a movie. He'll be fine. I was more fascinated that the movie was Mission Impossible 6.
  • Breaking News. Is it just me or does the military seem to have a lot of non-combat helicopter/jet crashes?
  • That's a female, right?:
  • My office got a robo-call which was an IRS scam. It has happened to so many people: You are told you owe money (I don't), and I need to call them immediately. There are so many people who have been hit with this.
  • I was walking into Walmart yesterday with my standard office outfit of a white shirt and tie when an angry guy comes up to me and asks, "Are you a manager here?!"
  • What is the purpose of those heavy duty grill guards that are on the big trucks? And are they standard options? Is smashing into stuff a problem?
  • The Texas Legislature's special session ended last night. Nothing got done. And that is a good thing.

Yes, that's a girl. But she's probably more man than the three punks on the left. Man I'd beat my kid for doing that.

Most bumper guards are useless because the people who drive trucks are useless. They don't have a single cow or acre of land. Our place has bump gates--gates we can just bump with the truck and they open enough to drive through. But the old farm truck doesn't have a guard, because you just don't need one.

Basically, it's like blue jeans with decorative stitching. It just lets you know that the person wearing them is useless.

Trump will be fine, just like always. He'll even double down. You watch. And the rest of the GOP will act like it never happened.

LBJ sic'ed the feds on the KKK. Trump says they're fine people.

That is a girl.

Like 70% and 45% of Americans are overweight and clinically obese, respectively.

Grille guards were initially designed to protect vehicles from cattle, trees, and other immovable objects, such as bump gates. They are also appealing to the general truck owned.

Helicopters were never meant to be a thing. They're basically just a flying gas tank.

At this point, I couldn't get drunk and come up with something that isn't possible for this administration. That said, Trump was trying to make a point that a lot of people feel is valid, myself included (regarding violent leftists), but he went about it in the worst way he possibly could have.

I (a West Coast transplant) laughed when my husband (a Texan) added the grill guard option to his truck. We live in Fort Worth what do we need one for?

Then he was in an accident with our baby son in the truck. Repair shop and insurance company both said the truck would have been totaled if not for the grill guard. I am a convert.

We may not have a lot of wildlife on the highways here but we do have a lot of idiot drivers. Money well spent.

What did Trump say that wasn't true?

George Soros and his minions paid people to go to Trump rallies last year and stir up violence. Cops get shot and killed at Black Lives Matter rallies. Conservative speakers can't speak on a college campus without left-wing activists setting fires and burning buildings.

Again....I ask.....what did Trump say that wasn't true?

Anonymous said...

Trump has never been good at speaking. He speaks off the cuff most of the time. I think it's refreshing to have a president who speaks in his own words rather than what someone else tells him to say. That being said, his delivery of the message was not good, but the message is the same none the less. There are hateful people on both sides and all need to be held accountable for their actions. There is a huge difference in peaceful protest and angry mobs. Free speech is costly. You have to be willing to hear all of it, even the stuff you don't agree with. Otherwise, it's not free speech. Hate speech is being spewed from all sides. Perhaps if law enforcement had done their part in keeping these two volatile groups apart there would not have been such a conflict. As I understand it, one side had a permit to protest and the other did not. They should not have been allowed to assemble together. No need to put two pit bulls together to see what happens.

Barry, get this through your skull. The Unite the Right protest in Charlottesville was to protest the removal of Robert E. Lee, a Virginian that sacrificed decades of service to serve his state AND stopped the plans for a continued irregular war after the surrender of Confederate forces, AND worked hard to get the Confederate States to return to the Union after the war. They had permits.
The protest attracted some right-wing, white supremacist groups that are ignorant and hateful, but have a right to assemble and speak.
The Antifa counter-protest followed their typical game plan. They came without permit, they were armed with pepper spray, sticks, projectiles and other weapons (as were the right-wingers to a degree) with the intent of causing conflict and shutting down the right-wing group's exercise of their First Amendment rights.
Had the authorities done their job and separated the two groups, outcomes would have been different. The simple conclusion is that they let the two groups make contact just to stir the pot.
So on one side you have ignorant, racially motivated hardliners spouting hate. On the other you have ignorant hardliners trying to deny anyone that opposes them their civil rights even to the point of using violence to stop them. Last I looked, stopping the exercise of a civil right is not an American value, just as racism isn't.

Racism has always been an American value. Today's racism differs from the past's in that it allegedly aims to correct history's injustices, but penalizes people who aren't the perpetrators, to the benefit of those who aren't the victims.

At this point, the alt-right and the alt-left are flip sides of the same coin. They're both hate groups who just hate different people. If you defend either, you're siding with hate. Decent people need to back away, take a breath and realize, both groups are wrong and a danger to our democracy. Both groups need to be called out for the hatred they preach and advocate.

Neither group should have been allowed permits to gather, in Charlottesville, because both groups not only advocate and incite violence both groups have gone to great lengths, on their respective websites, to instruct and encourage people to do such at "rallies."

The alt-left is calling for the removal of Confederate monuments of men who lead a violent insurrection with the purpose of sedition against the US. Those Confederates believed their cause noble to such a degree it justified stepping outside the rule of law and using violence. Something people of good conscience should abhor. However, the alt-left is declaring they're demanding the removal of Confederate monuments because it harkens back to the days of slavery and glorifies men who fought to maintain slavery. The alt-left's justification is not supported by history. People who claim Confederate monuments should remain because they reminders of US history need to be instructed on how to open a book, should they truly be interested in reminders of history. Most Confederate monuments were erected 50-60 years after the end of the American Civil War. How many people would be outraged if cities in Germany had begun erecting monuments to Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Josef Mengele in the 1990's and 2000's? Even Robert E. Lee stated that monuments should not be raised to praise the Confederate State's participation in the American Civil War.

The current violence used by the alt-left and the alt-right is just as wrong today as it was when the Confederate States elected to resort to violence because they believed their cause just in 1861.

The alt-right has their 16 point manifesto online. You should read it before buying into the media narrative, and painting them as haters.
As an adult in modern America you should know the mainstream press lies, with regularity, from Trayvon's "white" attacker, to model rocket engines in pickup fuel tanks, to white supremacists in C'ville.

Violence IS righteous in a just cause.
You make the mistake of looking at history through the lens of your modern sensibilities.

If you've been duped into believing Vox Popoli's misleading definition, of the alt-right you need to expand your reading list and properly educate yourself on the true nature of the alt-right.

Let me offer a few suggestions:
altright.com
United White Knights
National Alliance
Stormfront

As for your belief that "violence is righteous in a just cause," you're grossly mistaken. In a civilized society not only is violence the last option and only an option when someone/a nation is directly threatened but it is a personal failure that violence would ever become an option after failing at negotiations/communication/compromise. One suggestion, before you declare it righteous to engage in violence in a cause you deem just, make certain you're among those on the front lines.

One of my favourite quotes regarding war:
War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children.
-Jimmy Carter

You don't really know that much about which you speak and you know even less about me and my perspective on the American Civil War. I have a home that houses family heirlooms that just so happens to be a genuine Confederate sword and scabbard, carried by a great, great uncle of my Mr as well as a copy of the last will and testament of his great, great grandfather bequeathing several slaves to family members and granting freedom to one favoured slave. I am intimately aware that Southern culture, in the 1860's, was vastly different than it is today. I realize, men went to war because they were called and honour bound to heed the call to war. HOWEVER, that doesn't exonerate the leaders of the Confederate States who actually seceded from the United States, prior to the American Civil War, merely because they opposed the election of Abraham Lincoln. Hmmmm..perhaps I was mistaken and things weren't that different since it sounds like the leaders of the Confederate States were a tad like the "snowflakes" who are hissing and spitting about Trump being POTUS. Remember, during the 1860's the South was Democrat and Lincoln was Republican. As for my perspective on history and the "righteousness" of the American Civil War, it is similar to that of Robert E. Lee who lamented his choice of participating in the American Civil War, apologized for that error and all the harm he caused.

Just a final bit of advice provided from one of my favourite men in history.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.
— ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

The only insights I have into your thinking are the statements you make. I don't think I'm misinterpreting your view. You clearly believe the Rebels in the civil war were traitors and the alt-right are racist nutjobs.

Stormfront and the National Alliance don't define the alt-right.
The alt-right is short for alternative right. They are an alternative to the supposed conservative right that hasn't conserved anything, and act as a branch of the uniparty that rules this country. Alt-righters call Nazis and White Supremacists "swastika panties", alt-retard, and other pejorative terms, but you won't see that on your evening news.

When your opponents profess the desire and demonstrate the ability to genocide your people, you will be hard pressed to find common ground for negotiation/compromise.

Violence is more often the solution than you will admit:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956

Think of the millions of innocent people eliminated by the Communists in Russia and China, due to a lack of a timely violent response.
