The Campaign For DA

8.03.2016

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Anyone else uncomfortable with white police officers in Virginia stopping blacks in order to give them ice cream? (And concerning the issue of "Can they legally do that?" the answer is a resounding "no".)
  • Cowboy Rolando McClain  is probably done after it was revealed that he tested positive for the Purple Drank. I just watched an episode on that stuff on Vice TV and walked away more confused than informed.
  • That "Vice" family of networks is confusing. There are Vice documentaries on HBO. There is a Vice Channel. There is Vice News production team (which a big wig at NBC just left to join). And I think there is a Vice magazine.  It's normally pretty good stuff.
  • Another Baylor player was arrested -- this time for stalking. What's next? A devil worshiping child trafficking case?
  • It's not so much that I'm surprised by Trump's implosion this week, it's that I'm surprised it has taken this long.
  • A plane crash landed in Dubai a couple of hours ago. Six Americans on board. No fatalities.

  • In one of the weirdest legal stories I've seen, we've got a lady in Parker County who had her DWI plea bargain set aside. She asked for a new trial because she alleged sexual assault by her lawyer, a hearing was held, the lawyer took the Fifth, the State agreed to the Motion, the Texas Rangers are investigating, and a former long time prosecutor who quit when the new Tarrant County DA took office is on standby as a special prosecutor.
  • Oil has fallen below $40 a barrel again.
  • And the greatest of these is apathy . . .
  • The over/under for Cowboys wins this year is 9.5.  I don't even need to see a pre-season game. Take the under. Lock it.
  • BagOfNothing points out that the Mineral Wells paper is taking heat for this in a story about one of the dead men in the Lockhart balloon crash: "He is a former in [sic] Mineral Wells police officer who, in 2011, was placed on 10 years deferred adjudication for setting as many as four fires in the Mineral Wells area a year earlier, including one that injured a firefighter. He was ordered to pay $600,000 in restitution, fees and fines." I'm not sure I understand the heat. It's a news story. The guy recently pled guilty to crime and had been in charge of the public trust. The news story wasn't supposed to be a glowing obituary.
  • When some people die, you know their crimes will be mentioned. John Hinkley, Jr., Sirhan Sirhan, Charles Manson, and, heck, even Oliver North. But all of those people are famous because of their crimes. I'm trying to think of another example where someone dies in a newsworthy way (i.e. balloon crash) and then their past is brought up. I can't come up with one.
  • I question this: Mansfield police have released the "forensic bust" of a lady found dead in hopes of identifying her. An "investigation reveals the victim was an African-American woman anywhere between 5'2" and 5'10" and somewhere between 35 and 55-years-old at the time of her death." Wait a second. The best you can give me is a 20 year age range and an 8 inch height range? And you expect me to believe the "forensic bust" is even close to accurate?
  • I'm not jazzed by the Olympics.

The police in Halifax stopped 20 people, it didn't say what race they were. Jealous much?

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Purple Drank, does anyone remember Purple Passion that came in a 2 liter and was made with Everclear?

Anonymous said...

Hope rumors Trump is going to withdraw from the race are true! He won't stay on message, endorse leading Republicans because he is an Independent, not a Republican. He has zero attention span, only wants to counter punch, has no empathy. His response to the gift of the veterans silver star had no acknowledgement of what the sacrifice represented! His attack on John McCain won't stop! When will his supporters start speaking up? It is past time.

If Trump were a Democrat, none of this would be worth mentioning.

"It's not so much that I'm surprised by Trump's implosion..." And yet almost universal media silence about Hillary's compound lies about the FBI investigation. She got caught, lied about it, got caught in her lie, lied again, got caught and lied again, and now lied about getting caught. Where are the stories on her psychopathy?

Trump is horrible...Hillary is just worse.

Unless we're afflicted with a terminal case of 'white guilt', is there some reason we should be troubled?

I'm really surprised the "I always wanted a Purple Heart. This was much easier" comment is getting overshadowed by the crying-baby story. When a major-party candidate follows up denigrating a Gold Star mother with bragging about "always wanting" a combat medal awarded for injuries and how much easier it was to just have a vet give him one, I'd expect that to be more scandalous.

I suppose that's an indicator of just how whackadoo this campaign is.

Why should Baylor employees lose their jobs because some teenage idiot does something stupid off campus? Why not make the parents of this teenage idiot quit THEIR jobs..at least you can make the connection to some level or responsibility. Instead, random hard working people at Baylor walk in this morning and learn they are fired because someone else did something wrong.

Your words, not mine.

Wake up sir, your alma mater is a cesspool of corruption and cover-up.

1. There is no Pepper Hamilton Report, only a press release from BU. It was an oral report?
2. The football assistant coaches won't talk to the media this entire season?
3. Jim Grobe keeps all the assistants and tells us BU is better than its ever been?

It is without question the most corrupt, hypocritical mess in the history of college athletics. At least at Penn State it was one guy, at BU its appears its the majority.

Lies are character building blocks within current liberal criteria. Wordkyle just wondering why you and other Trump supporters can only bring up Hillary's faults whenever anyone points out how despicable a human Trump is not to mention unqualified in every aspect. I seem to remember a number of rants about how it was time for Obama to quit blaming Bush for all our woes and stop using the yeah but the other one is just as bad or worse excuse. I can not and will not defend Clinton as a great person or candidate , she's not and I really don't know what I'll do on election day except never vote for Trump. My advice for my Republican friends is to leave president spot blank vote up and down the ballot for Republicans to keep the House majority and hope to gain an edge in the Senate. Then hunker down use the majorities to stop most of the proposals a Pres. Clinton puts forward. Then in 4 years put forward a real Republican they all can get behind that can actually put forth some concrete ideas not just, look how bad things are with the Democrats like the last 8 years. I really believe that could be a wonning formula to regain the Presidency.

I know Trump is a lard-ass crazy. But he graduated at the top of his class, Wharton School of Finance. He is not stupid.

The question is, why in the hell is he trying to throw the election to Hitlery? He could sit back, talk policy, and about how in the toilet we are right now, and win. This has got to be a purposeful anointment of Hitlery.

Why?

The only thing I can think of is that we are under a $20 trillion bubble that is about to burst. GDP and employment are cratering. Business is bracing for the fall. Neither of the major parties wants to be in control when the dam breaks.

So no matter how bad it gets in the next 90 days, Trump will be however crazy he needs to be, in order to get fewer votes than Hitlery. Let her take the fall. Then in four years, a "normal" Republican can get elected.

It is literally high stakes musical chairs.

The problem with that is the SCOTUS will be lost for decades. The Constitution will be effectively rewritten.

Just from what is known about the things Hitlery has done, she should be in prison. Instead, she will win and become POTUS. How in the world can anyone with a brain vote for her? How can she get any support whatsoever? Please, any liberal out there, if you are going to vote for her, then how can you? I would really like to know.

Anyhow, I am done with all of them. This will be the last year I work my ass off, sending thousands of dollars to Washington. I will do what I need to get by, live off retirement, get whatever benefits I am owed after paying in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ya'll try to rebuild when the time comes.

Best of luck.

This, and many others, happened on campus, idiot.

But the main issue in this one is that the professor didn't call the cops until he had to and only after the coaches weren't answering their phones. This is the problem--calling coaches first so they can help bury the story.

At this point its about the character of the American people."

What a sad state of affairs when US voters have Hillary and Trump as top choices for POTUS.

Hillary is evil and Trump is crazy (narcissistic personality disorder isn't exactly "crazy" but, Trump takes it to such an extreme, in his case, it might as well be).

The real difference between Hillary and Trump is that Hillary has betrayed the public's trust, Trump has yet to do that.

Make your vote matter, vote for Gary Johnson. Johnson doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning. However, voting Libertarian WILL give rise to a legitimate third party and will FORCE the Republicans and Democrats to change their ways.

I've got a good friend that will still try and defend Trump. It is hilarious to watch his face, as he tries to piece together any response to Trump's recent missteps. I laugh and laugh and ultimately, he gets pissed. Its not his fault, he just isn't very smart.

The people in Rio hate the Olympics so much that they are having huge protests and people are actually trying to attack the Olympic torch and put out the flame as the ridiculous procession moves forward. Athletes are being burned out and robbed. Facilities are falling apart and are not ready. The place is a complete disaster, but what do you bet NBC will make it look like the greatest place on earth in order to keep viewers and avoid a ratings and advertisers calamity.

I don't like Donald Trump. He's got a lot of problems and he's running an undisciplined, amateurish campaign. However, he's been in the public eye for four decades and has been remarkably successful. Descriptions of him as crazy, sociopath, abomination, etc. are simply over the top and not really justifiable.

I simply like to point out the extreme imbalance in the descriptions of Trump and Hillary Clinton.
-She has lied and been caught in the lies over and over, yet no one questions her mental or psychological state.
-She was known to have raging temper tantrums in the White House, screaming and throwing things, yet no one questions her temperament.
-She placed sensitive government information at risk simply so she wouldn't be inconvenienced, yet no one questions her judgment.
-While Secretary of State she may very well have sold her influence to foreign agencies, yet no one questions her character.

Let's see equal coverage of the two candidates' faults, and I'll ease up about media bias.

When I hear he has had two affairs and married three women, I think over the top.
When hear him speak and the words great, me, trump and amazing are repeated so much that it counts at a sixth grade level.....I think over the top.
What part of "The Donald" is not over the top?
And what part do you think he cares or has ever made an effort to help others or this country?

925 - Your concerns may be valid. However, you seem to be holding what Trump might not have done against what he actually did (34,000 jobs!) And none of the claims justify the use of the hyper-extreme terms used to describe him. Once again, people are creating a caricature and then raging against their own creation.
