Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Alvord made the news! Both on CBS and The Ticket!:
  • Sports will put you in the hospital in more ways than one:
  • Another obscure law I learned about at my seminar which proves the Texas legislature is insane:
  • Also at the seminar, a conversation came up about providing to the defendant everything the State has in its possession per the Michael Morton Act. Someone piped up and said, "That Act only applies to lawyers and not pro se defendants." I almost became unglued. (Frankly I don't know if it does or it doesn't because the District Attorney and County Attorney in Wise County turn over everything.)
  • Nothing to see here: Trump's lawyer received approximately $500k after the election from a company linked to Russian Oligarch with ties to Putin.
  • Something weird is going on over at Fox 4:
  • What the heck? This is early May!:
  • Stormy's lawyer is baiting him. And Giuliana might be dumb enough to to take it:
  • Southwest, you have a problem: "A Southwest Airlines flight headed from Nashville to Dallas-Love Field on Monday night had an issue getting one of its wing flaps extended and made an unscheduled landing at DFW International Airport, about 20 miles short of its destination."

Obscure law?

Every cop in Texas knows that law. I'm surprised you are a former prosecutor.

RTGs - you're on a roll Barry! Keep it up

"Another obscure law I learned about at my seminar which proves the Texas legislature is insane:..."

This goes way back to reconstruction and before. If there was a sidewalk available, it was reserved for "Whites Only". It was an unwritten rule, but common knowledge, particularly in the deep south. Blacks were expected to walk in the street, certainly not on the sidewalks. It was a common expectation/practice in East Texas well into the 1960's when I was growing up.

That's an interesting business Mr. Cohen has. He is a lawyer with two and a half clients, and then he takes money from businesses who want access to... one of his clients.

If it's true, it seems weird.

Just because the media reported that Trump's lawyer received $500k does not make it true. The FBI could have planted it, done some phony wire transfers to make it look that way.

Regarding the school bday spankings, hasn't this principal ever seen Mindhunter?

The sidewalk law makes as much sense as a seat belt law. Not sure why it bothers you other than we shouldn't be telling grown adults where to walk.

Was the Carrolton Muni Judge there? She doesn't believe in Brady or Morton apparently. Court of criminal appeals just gave her 30 days to respond to a mandamus pertaining to requiring electronic duplicates of discovery. She is a troll.

Regarding Southwest. Remember around the holidays, the Southwest Flight Mechanics Union ran ads on the Ticket stating they are seeing more knowledgable mechanics let go in favor of younger, less seasoned, and cheaper mechanics? The ad asked folks to contact the Southwest CEO to tell him we want safety first at Southwest. And now all this happens. I will definitely think twice before flying Southwest again.

While I think the birthday spankings at Alvord is a silly tradition, the way some of the parents described it seems perfectly okay. But in the this day and time with all the child abuse going on, I think this is inappropriate and I understand how outsiders could think it inappropriate. So I'm glad they have decided to do away with the tradition before something happens and a smart ass city person makes a claim their child was injured or touch inappropriately.

You mean you haven't seen the sidewalk law in action? I've seen it used numerous times to justify detaining a guy and eventually arresting him for something else. In practice though, it's really only enforced on the other side of the tracks.

I’m not sure what Barry’s issue is with the sidewalk law. Does he want people in the roadway walking with their backs to oncoming traffic?

Sweet lord, this drives me nuts. Love Field is less than 12 miles from DFW and the plan had to pass Love Field to get to DFW. It wasn't short of its destination and certainly not by 20 miles.

9:09: AT&T confirmed yesterday that it sent Cohen $200,000 "to provide insights into the new administration."

Your theory is that AT&T is lying? Or is it that the FBI pretended to be Cohen to trick AT&T to send money?

Jen Myers has been talking about the hair issue for years. Saul Garza is also leaving Fox DFW, and seems to be doing so in a huff.

Hey Skippy, STAY WOKE!! Has Trump launched nukes into North Korea yet? Has Trump fired Sessions yet?

Who knew that Moscow on the Hudson was not only a movie, but a prediction of things to come in Amerika? 500K for access? More likely payoff from Mother Russia. Shocking.

552.006 was enacted in 1995. Doesn’t seem to be a reconstruction issue, now, does it?

I wonder how much smoke Republicans have to smell before they start thinking there’s fire. Not that they’d care I guess.

The Michael Morton Act prevents defense lawyers from disclosing some things (or giving redacted copies to) the defendant. When the defendant is also he lawyer, that could cause some conflict. Of course, I see it as an equal protection violation, not an excuse to violate the law and bully a pro se defendant.

9:09 am - Yeah, the FBI totally planted that. Also, 9/11 was an inside job. The moon landing was also faked. And I'm pretty sure vaccines are a plot to control the population though autism. And FEMA is a shadow organization ready to take over the country. It's all related. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

Re: Birthday spankings
I know the Alvord principal very well. She taught both of my kids when she was in Bridgeport. Both of my kids and us parents absolutely loved her. She was one of the best teachers we had. I would take her in a heart beat to come back to our district. She would never do anything to harm, ridicule or embarrass a student that did not want to participate in this tradition. Some grown ups need to understand that it's not a bad thing they're doing, it's recognizing their special day. Unfortunately, some kids don't get anything on their birthday.

I was going from Ft. Worth to Midland and my car started overheating so I had to stop in El Paso to get it fixed.

I've known about the sidewalk law since I was a kid. They taught us about it in elementary school.

To me, it's legislating common sense. But some people need that.

Has Trump traded one American traitor who left his post to join up with ISIS for 5 of the most dangerous prisoners in Guantanemo? Nope, only your beloved Obammy would do that. And then he held him up as a hero upon his return.

FBI planted it???
I'm curious, do you use the heavy duty aluminum foil for your hats or is the regular version enough?

Some of you seem astounded at the thought of the FBI maybe doing something unscrupulous.

Ever heard of gun-running in Mexico?

Maybe you should re-think that.

Stormy's lawyer is just laying himself out there for a TV show. He could care less about her or her lawsuit. He will wind up on MSNBC spouting random legal stuff, either that or reading paternity results. The leak of the 500k came from him on his twitter account. He stated a Theory that a huge company had paid the equivalent of lunch money, to a firm owned by Cohen and his associates and asked if it was used to be paying back the 130k Trump paid stormy.

Nobody knows shit.
Some guy doing a twitter dance just to get more CNN bookings.

It is really a good thing this guy isnt going after a Clinton, he would have had "Brake Issues" by now.

That schoolteacher's lawyer is Jason Smith from Ft. Worth. I saw him in action one time in a trial in Decatur. Dude is a nice guy and I found out later one of the best employment lawyers in Texas.

There are gay teachers everywhere. Some of the best teachers perhaps. Discrimination should be a dead issue in 2018 for sure. Get on with life and concentrate on what really matters.

I like Trump, but can't figure out why he keeps tossing up freebies to the prostitute and her bag man. IGNORE them -- just say "no comment".

Wrong Michael Cohen. Barry was actually correct. There was nothing to see there. Leftist are losers.

Adding to Storymy Daniels's lawyer's credibility, or lack thereof, it turns out that some of the payments he cites were to other men named "Michael Cohen" who are not, and never were, Trump's lawyer, nor are they connected in any way to Trump.

Have you read some of the things our intelligence services have done over the years? When they are out to get someone it is pretty scary, just ask Martin Luther King Jr! And that is just the stuff we know about!

Just take a look at what the FBI did to American citizens during the Civil Rights movement. Given that we now know how partisan the FBI is, how they have it in for Trump, I don't think this is too much of a stretch. Also I find it odd that this "news" on Cohen is leaked while Tight Lips McGee's investigation has been so quiet to this point!

I was raised in Waco and got "birthday licks" pretty much every year of my childhood. One for each year plus one "to grow on". It just seems part of our shared southern/southwestern culture.

It's a shame we're raising such tender children. My high school coaches dealt out "pops" for any minor infraction. Nowadays, sports do seem to help toughen our kids up some. I highly recommend them, if you're not too busy to raise your kids right. One piece of advice though,- start early.

$500,000 ?? That's a lot of money. Why does that number sound familiar?...Ah, that seems like how much some Russians paid Bill Clinton for a half hour speech right around the time his wife as Secretary of State signed off on The Uranium One deal. I bet Mr Cohen worked more than a half hour for his.

Can you believe there's a law requiring automobiles to travel on the RIGHT side of the roadway?!??? Our legislators are really stupid.....

I have never been so moved by a POTUS as I was this morning watching him bring home prisoners from NK! It is clear we are watching a truly loving and visionary man carry out his policies with forethought and instinct never seen before in the office of the presidency! Everything negative that has been said about him is quickly being proven false.
