Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • I noticed that Breckenridge is playing Paradise this weekend. Didn't Breckenridge used to be a football powerhouse in the same classification as Bridgeport and Decatur? Has the population decreased that much. (And, by the way, they are 0-5.)
  • "Black man beaten at white supremacist rally in Charlottesville faces felony charges."  But always remember, there are "good people" on "both sides."
  • ESPN's Michael Wilbon said this about Jerry Jones' declaration that every player will stand during the anthem: "And the word that comes to my mind, I don't care who doesn't like me using it, is plantation. The players are here to serve me and they will do what I want no matter how much I pay them. They are not equal to me. That what this says to me and mine."
  • I've said it before that the NFL Draft should be compared to slavery. Players, after going through the combine and stripped down and looked at on a stage, are then drafted and have to play for a team they have no choice in and paid a salary they no longer have a say in.
  • Make no mistake about it, if Trump ordered a nuclear strike, the military would simply say "No, we will not."
  • LSU has a problem as many members of a fraternity are arrested after a hazing incident left a student dead with an alcohol concentration of 0.495. (Good lord!) It was due to something they called "bible study" where you had to drink if you got a wrong answer during a fraternity history quiz.
  • The police officer who manhandled and handcuffed the nurse who rightfully refused to take blood from a person has been fired. Good riddance. You gave good cops a bad name due to incredible arrogance and stupidity. And nothing will destroy the career of a cop quicker than the combination of arrogance and stupidity,
  • The "Politics of Dancing" applies to the courthouse.
  • This is very confusing why he said this earlier this morning:
  • Especially when you consider this:
  • I'm convinced that I have people who comment on here who are brilliant and others who are as dumb as a box of rocks. (The box of rocks boys will never understand they are in the Box Of Rocks category.)
  • Always remember that the current Secretary of State and former CEO of Exxon (from Texas) believes Trump is a "moron." That is an undisputed fact. This will not end well.
  • Steve Bannon told Vanity Fair in a recorded interview that he thinks there is only a 30% chance Trump makes it for four years. That should shock Bubba to the core (assuming Bubba knows who Steve Bannon is.)
  • It is now October 12th with no appointment from the Governor of a district judge for Wise and Jack Counties. There is a primary election in March.
  • Trump doubled down last night on his ignorance of the First Amendment.
  • But wait, there's more! And who are these "people" he is talking about?
  • There sure were a lot of "news stories" about Arby's new menu items yesterday. Hmmmmm.
  • The Boy Scouts will allow girls. My take: So what? Who cares? It's a private organization who gets to make their own rules.

Jerry has an absolute right to demand certain behavior from his players while they are on the clock. Would Sharen Wilson permit an ADA to hand out NORML flyers in the courtroom? This shit is simple and everyone is making it hard. Go protest all you want on your day off Meanwhile, most of these players should focus on being better at their jobs. On another note, you keep saying this will not end well. What does that even mean chicken little?

I think the NFL is more like Christians and Lions for the amusement of the elite sitting up in their boxes. Wonder why the players don't protest the fact that they are sacrificed to amuse rich white guys? Oh yeah...they take millions to do that.

I don't have a problem with these guys being socially aware. But if they wanted to do something start a not for profit and everybody chip in a million bucks. Build youth centers in inner cities, hire lobbyists, do PR campaigns to try and get people to think about things in a new way. This taking a knee crap is the easiest and at the same time most useless thing they could do.

Because the NFL is a congressionally approved monopoly, it's more complicated than that. A player can't just pick up and go play pro somewhere else, so direct action against one could be more coercive than most employment situations and maybe quasi-governmental action that implicates the 1st Amendment.

Those who know are split on the issue.

I find it amusing that you used a similar term for some of your readers.

The thought that it could come to this keeps me up at night. We have over 20,000 American troops stationed in South Korea. I'm guessing they are at ground zero for North Korea. As long as Kelly and Mattis are running things I assume we are safe from total Trump insanity and that's why they are reluctant to leave. But with them gone, anything could happen.

There is a certain amount of irony with the Jerry Jones proclamation and the Boy Scouts new policy...Both are strictly business decisions.
Jerry sees that revenues & viewership of the NFL are declining. In Texas, were rednecks have a tendency to act ignorantly before thinking logically, the decision to force players to stand makes sense. An employer does have control on an employees first amendment rights to a certain degree. However, it is VERY plantation for team owning billionaires to tell their "boys" to go out and do as theyre told.
Boy Scouts see their membership dwindling away. They are struggling as an organization. Opening up to girls gives them a completely new demographic. Good for them. It is time.

Boy Scouts:
"It's a private organization who gets to make their own rules." (Grammar much?)
Didn't they make their own rules a while back about not allowing openly gay Scouts or leaders? How did that turn out?
The Girl Scouts put out a statement denouncing BSA's decision, saying girls are better off in a girls-only environment. Okay, if a parent feels their daughter is better off in GSA, don't put them into BSA. It's not mandatory.

Also not mandatory: entering the NFL Draft. Players decide to do that, and agree to the terms of their contract. They can also walk away from that contract whenever they want to. That's not slavery or "plantation", so spare us the white guilt over well-paid athletes.
If they have a complaint about a non-football related subject, they can protest all they like on their own time. When they're in uniform, they're on company time, and need to toe the company line like the rest of us do.
If the players' union is so concerned about the First Amendment, why haven't they challenged the "no celebration" rule? Isn't that a matter of the league suppressing players' freedom of expression?

The scary thing is I think Democrats are making the same mistakes over and over that will result in similarly bad candidates and more election losses to idiots like Trump. If you don't understand why Hillary lost, the portion of the electorate (white, urban, middle class former Obama voters) that swung the election, how is yelling Bubba Bubba going to net you future wins when that tactic didn't work for Hillary during the election. Maybe Libtard is an appropriate moniker for folks like yourselves who can't get past identity politics when the answer to future wins is staring you in the face.

As researchers are quick to point out, FBI data on police shootings by race is notoriously incomplete, which may explain why Peter Moskos, assistant professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, decided to use figures from the website Killed by Police.

Based on that data, Mr. Moskos reported that roughly 49 percent of those killed by officers from May 2013 to April 2015 were white, while 30 percent were black. He also found that 19 percent were Hispanic and 2 percent were Asian and other races.

"Rage, of the hundreds of blacks that you say were killed by the police last year, only 39 were unarmed. What's your point?"

Last I checked, gun ownership was generally legal. What's yours?

Because some of those legally carrying black people were shot and killed.

And white people toting guns--EVEN A WHITE PERSON WHO HAD JUST SHOT A COP IN THE HEAD--were talked down or tackled, not shot.

So, that's my point.

Surround, I'm still laughing about your comment yesterday. I thought I had addressed the smart president piece in my first comment, but let me simplify it for you. A president who has Alzheimer's is not smart. He is being proped up by those who want to use his power. A president like W, who needs to have briefings summarized to one page is not smart. Again, he was used by those around him to push through their agenda. A president who has his briefings condensed to mere sentences with his name sprinkled in to keep his attention is not smart. He's a moron who is being used by those around him and the Russians for their purposes. Did that help? I can draw some pictures if this isn't clear still.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps one difference between slavery (your plantation reference) and today's NFL player is that today's NFL player can quit and go do something else.

Anonymous said...

"According to Wikipedia, 74% of America is white and 13% is black. Meaning a disproportionate amount of police shootings are against black people"

12:50, No, what that means is that blacks are committing more of the crimes. That's why your reasoning is false if you look at the statistics of percentage of blacks in prison. Glad I could clear that up for you. Now get with Rage and he'll teach you how to use a deep fryer and wear a paper hat.

Anonymous said...

Let me add one thing: before Wordkyle or anyone else gets upset about my using W for a former president, I use it, because what he should be called is something much worse. W was briefed about planes being used as weapons. On 9/11 and the days after, his administration allowed Saudis to escape the US--at a time when flights were severely restricted. The Saudis took priority over the 3000 who died. See the 9/11 Commission's report, especially the recently released pages. --Laughing at Wordkyle

"Rage, gun ownership was never the subject of the debate. So what's your point?"

Well, now my point is that you're so dumb that even Barry understated it in today's bullet point.

Stay with me here:

If gun ownership is legal, and blacks are confronted when they have guns, then by what metric do you then claim their shootings are fine because they're black with a gun? Especially when white people with guns are less frequently shot.

More succinctly: In response to your "all them black people were armed" comment--my point is this: So?

Rage

Anonymous said...

Because they are pointing their guns and firing off rounds at the cops dumb ass!

Anonymous said...

Rage, if you want to change the debate in midstream about gun ownership, then you have to face facts about percentages of licensed right to carry versus illegally carrying. But facts aren't your strong suit so I'll just leave it at that and hope you have fun in the box with all of the other rocks.

In response to your made up response, please show me where I said, "all them black people were armed."

You should run for president of the paper hat and fry cook union. That 15 dollar and hour salary would carry you a long way in life.

Just a few MINOR differences between the NFL and slavery.

1. On average NFL players are paid MILLIONS of dollars. Slaves were paid NOTHING

2. NFL players can quit. Not so much for slaves.

3. NFL players get to eat what and when they want. Slaves often went hungry or ate substandard food.

4. NFL players get to keep any and all children they create. Slaves, not so much.

5. NFL players can be made to do 2-a-days. Slaves could be made to work until they DIED from exhaustion.

6. NFL players have some of the best care available should they become injured. Slaves, not so much.

7. Slaves could be hung, without trial, for any infraction, the master thought hanging was an appropriate punishment.

8. NFL players pick with whom they have sex. Slaves could be forced to bed whomever the master/mistress dictated.

9. NFL players are adored by the public. Slaves were reviled by the majority of the population.

What people fail to understand, EMPLOYERS have ALWAYS been able to tell their employees what to do when at work. Slave masters could compel slaves, BY FORCE, to do anything and everything.

Either Barry has no idea what it was to be a slave or he's just being a troll because NO ONE is shallow enough to compare an extremely well paid FREE human to someone who was owned body and soul until their death.

I didn't get past this one bullet point because this one was just too outrageous to pass up.

I get that White Guilt eats up a lot of White people. My question is, what are they doing for the non-Whites other than saying stupid stuff?
