The Campaign For DA

2.16.2015

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • It's Presidents' Day and the courthouse is closed, but I'm here proving, once again, I'm the hardest working man in show business. (I write that as I think, "Good lord, I'm up and writing this junk?")
  • I heard that parts of highway 287 froze over in the very early morning hours.
  • Do I dare say that Miley Cyrus performing "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" on the SNL 40th anniversary show was really, really good?
  • The Junior In The House  received for Valentines a great perfectly folded paper rose along with a hand made matchbox containing one match with a message of "If you don't want the rose, you can burn it." Hey, what did that kid do in Endless Love?
  • The mass beheading of 21 people by ISIS over the weekend is beyond words. And a bizarre aspect of all of these horrific videos is how the victims never seem to struggle, panic, or fight.
  • 50 Shades of Grey made over $80 million over the weekend. Most of the reaction has been: "Everyone was getting bent out of shape over that?"
  • There is no less used tool than the government Open Records Request. Want to know how much and where a Wise County employee spent on his last convention trip? Just ask.
  • Co-Official Liberally Lean Girl, Christina Aguilera, sang the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game last night. Hey, Now
  • The lead item in the Update is about a wreck on Friday that killed one teen and hurt another. "Names of the two men are not available at this time . . . ." Not available? On Monday?
  • My administrative-assistant-in-charge-of-keeping-me-out-of-trouble has seen Sting, Bob Seger, and went to Chicago to see the art exhibit David Bowie Is. All in the last six months. I'm jealous. And I'm jealous that I don't have that desire to get off my arse in my free time.
  • "7 heinous lies 'American Sniper' is telling America." Preach on.
  • Is there any less bang for the buck than a restaurant?
  • Mark Cuban's brother, Brian, has written another book about "living with, and recovering from, eating disorders, drug addiction and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)." At some point you just need to let it go, right? (That link takes you to a horribly written passage from the book of his previous experience of being in a strip club.)
  • The GOP golden boy of the moment, Scott Walker, had this answer as to whether he believed in evolution: “I’m going to punt on that one… That’s a question that a politician shouldn’t be involved in one way or another.” Why is he scared to answer that?
  • How do people in the Northeast not wake up today and say, "Screw this, I'm moving South even in that means living in the South"?
  • The Cindy Crawford unaltered photo is all the rage. Still pretty hot.

Barry conveniently leaves out the fact that those beheaded were Christians. And the only thing that he finds intriguing is that they don't struggle more? Perhaps they are keenly aware of the torture that would be inflicted if they did struggle.

It's been theorized that one possible explanation of the lack of struggle of ISIS' hostages is that they have all been subject to mock executions before their actual execution. The victims might have struggled the first time or the first five, but they've stopped resisting by the time ISIS decides to execute them.

WTH does that mean? Are you an apologist for the south? Seriously? Every area of this country has it's upside and downside, depending on your point of view. Knock it off Barry. You sound like an idiot when you pull this crap.

Of all the questions I want the 2016 presidential candidate to answer, belief in evolution is not one of them!

It's like I've always said, the mainstream media isn't liberal because of anything else other than the questions they ask — about things only liberals care about.

Maybe Time can get back with us when they finally do an in-depth report on Obama's college years or how much influence Saul Alinsky had on Hillary Clinton.

Funny. I wonder if you already have, and are fueling the fire.

Co-Official Liberally Lean Girl, Christina Aguilera

No, you should demote her. She looks like any average formerly fat girl, who will never be in good shape again.

Is there any less bang for the buck than a restaurant?

Maybe not in Wise County. But if you ever travel somewhere and want a head's up on where to eat and why, give me a shout. While restaurants may not be for everyone, for a very good one I have no problem spending a lot of money on it. Food should be a major part of everyone's travel. Shoot, food tours are cheap enough to be able to take the whole family and learn about the local food and history of wherever you happen to be. Plus, Mrs. LL would probably like them better than week-early roses.

Why is it that all liberal weanies despise a true American hero?

Because he was a lying sack of shit? I mean, I'm not sure what that says about your heroes if you idolize liars.

And no, I do not idolize Clinton or Obama. So take that stray man out of your quiver right now.

Clint Eastwood makes a film about an American hero and he sensationalizes. How is this different from any other Hollywood biopic?

It's not. In fact, every time someone points out that it's not accurate, people rush to defend him with a Chick-fil-A sandwich in one hand and a Bible in the other. It's you who doesn't see that it's the same as any other Hollywood BS film, not us.

How about the misrepresentation of LBJ in Selma?

Good grief, if anything they were kind to LBJ. He was far more racist and bigoted than the movie portrayed. Nice to see you taking up for a Democrat, though, although I suspect it's only because you have trouble with consistency in your arguments in several other ways.

Was Oliver Stone completely accurate in JFK?

Who said he was? That movie turned into a shitstorm as well.

I'll start off with, yet again, Rage is an idiot.

It does matter that the beheaded were Christians. Why? They were beheaded BECAUSE they are Christians.

I'll slow down for Rage, because I can't use crayons to draw him a picture...

When the motive for the beheadings is specifically because the now-headless victims were Christians, that's germane to the discussion.

If only two Christians were killed in a bomb killing 200 people, then making a big deal out of their deaths would seem a reach. But when all of the victims were killed...because they're Christian...we care.

10:24 needs to read "Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed" available on Amazon.

He might like to explain to me how 23 of the States have record high temperatures dating to the 1930's and only one of these has been tied since the year 2000. If it is warmer, then why are these records not being exceeded?

And yes I know stuff like that. I am educated in science and mathematics with a college degree. Why most people are watching football and junk on TV I am reading. One thing that I do watch and look for are long term trends in worldwide temperatures including average temperatures at all HCN stations (note, I said "all" to prevent deception) which, when graphed, shows a downhill slope from the dust bowl years. The graphs you see on most TV stations are fraudulent.

The general theme of the movie is true, though some details were altered for dramatic effect. What libs refuse to recognize is that the lies in The Butler, Selma (LBJ actually ENCOURAGED the march), and JFK are egregious misrepresentations of history.

"7 heinous lies 'American Sniper' is telling America."

Author nailed it. Too bad the rightwingnuts think a Hollywood movie loosely based on a book full of lies is the truth because it makes them feel better about making a huge mistake.

Kyle is a despicable excuse for a soldier and an American. He was a pathological liar, an egomaniac and someone that enjoyed killing purely for the sake for the sake of killing. He is in no way, shape or form an American hero.

His death was karma, pure and simple.

Stay Classy, copying Rage's insults isn't very original. Try to think for yourself once in a while.

Anyway, to the extent that religion matters, then ISIS is killing people because they are not the same type of Muslims they are. Big deal. The fact that they are killing people at all is a problem.

12:04, and as we all know, the devil is in th edetails. What was changed, although you call them details, is the fact that Kyle was a sociopath who took pleasure in killing, and frequently lied. He was not torn up, he was not calling home crying like a baby, he wanted to stay. Not to serve. To kill.

Wordy at 11:30 - of course the comments of 10:24 didn't propose this one example "proves" anything. It is the climate change deniers who cite isolated weather events in their locale and draw silly conclusions. Maybe it would help to understand the subject is "world wide climate change". While it's cold and snowy in Boston (or Wise Co.) it may be quite different in Samoa, Egypt or Alaska. The fact remains that over 95% of actual climate scientists agree that the climate is changing and that industrial man is having an affect. These are world wide scientists, not just Americans. You can cherry pick your sources and cite local anomalies but science and scientists agree that we are impacting the natural evolution of the earth's climate.

Beheading is a hot button these days. However, some time ago, our good Christian ancestors like King Henry VII used the axe to behead several of his wives. The French used the giotine (sp) as the normal means of execution into the 19th century. At least it was quick and effective unlike some of our modern means. In Biblical times early Christians and Jews uses stoning, hanging and burning at the stake.

As an old Air Force guy, we were able to blow stuff up and kill people from 40,000 feet. Artillery guys did it from several miles. Grunts could spray shells all around with no particular target. Bayonets could be used up real close. Bottom line is: killing can be done in many ways but the end result is the same.

So who is humane and who is not?

The frequency of 90 degree days in the US is plummeting, and 2014 had had the second fewest on record. 1992 was the only year with fewer 90 degree readings in the US. The record year of 1992 was was cooled by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. The highest number dates to the 1930's. The graph slopes down from then. Woody Guthrie knew about the world before global cooling. So did the Migrant Mother in the Pulitzer winning photo.

Another indicator of a cooler climate is that for the second year in a row the Great Lakes have record ice cover.

Why don't you just TRY to explain WHY these proposed improvements/additions are NEEDED in DISD!!

They are not needed, they are wanted! Our school taxes are already high enough for a town of Decatur's size. Businesses are given tax breaks while we hard working citizens break our backs just to afford to stay in our homes. I'm tired of shelling out more money for the WANTS of new coaches; the new crop of parents(who will get over all of this in four years once their little kid graduates); the board members who want their names on a plaque to show what "they" got accomplished while serving; and any other yayhoo who really can't analyze the true needs of the district vs what we just want in order to "keep up" with our neighboring districts. Have I heard correctly? Is DISD going to go forward with artificial turf on the fields even though the voters have voted that WANT down the last few years? I believe if that is a true fact, then I will be voting NO on anything and everything the board/district proposes for bonds in the next ten years! Maybe if more citizens would do the same, then the wants vs the needs would become more accurately proposed!

Do I agree that a number of contracts have gone to a certain bridge-playing crook? Ummm, YES THEY HAVE!!

But it was mentioned earlier...VOTER APATHY IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM!

What does that tell you??

A School Board member has the single most thankless job in any town...and trust me...I think most of the DISD Board are a bunch of blathering sycophants with more personal agendas than Machiavelli but the fact remains...The items listed are NEEDED and if you vote No because of your blind hatred toward a couple of knuckleheads then YOU are as much to blame for our current state of affairs as are those who suckle at the teat of cronyism.

95% of scientists concurring that global warming exists is not a correct statement. It is deceptive. When speaking of climatologist that number is probably correct. A climatologist who does not support the global warming position cannot find employment so they are eliminated from the survey. There are very few jobs for climatologist outside of being a college professor. If you include other scientist such as physicist and meteorologist, the number is not even close to being correct.

With little increase in the number of students in the past few years there should not be any need spending more money. The problem with the Decatur ISD is demographics. There is no solution to that problem. If you want better demographics that will result in a higher performing school then move.
