Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Look into those cute puppy eyeballs and tell me you don't want to adopt it. I Miss Snuggles
  • Cigarette tax per pack may increase in Oklahoma from $1.50 to $2.00. Missiouri's tax rate is only $0.17. It's a little hard to compete with that.
  • It's been one year since the Waco Shootout. There was a documentary by CNN aired last night.
  • Ken Paxton is asking himself for an opinion.
  • Former Jacksboro football coach, Chuck Curtis has died. He led them to a state title in the 1960's.
  • Note to Barry: If a flower tag says to plant in full sun and you plant it in shade, it's not going to make it. Mystery solved. You're welcome.
  • Also, Barry's favorite female raunchy comedian, Sara Silverman, will be performing at WinStar.
  • I found an animal I won't be asking Barry for.
  • Throw back post Tuesday. And update to that post. I can't say I turned out to be that kind of wife. Then again, I do have a bat.
  • Also, speaking of the bat, I didn't say we don't own guns, I just mentioned that I don't like guns. I've seen the result too many times.

I remember paying 19¢ a pack for cigarettes when we were at sea. In port they were 30 cents unless a sale was going on. That was 40 years ago.

White guys would bum a smoke from you if you had Marlboros or Winstons. Black guys would if you were carrying Kools or Newports.

Player's Navy Cut was the finest cigarette ever made IMO.

Did you like the results of a person trying to defend themselves with a bat from a person with a gun?

If you have a gun, why do you try to defend yourself with a bat?

I don't want to adopt it.

I like guns because I've seen the results of self-defense and it always amounts to survival. I like survival. Survival is good. Guns are good. Guns guarantee a free America.

The bison lady was recently divorced? She lets the large animal freely roam her house and pee in her bedroom. Color me amazed someone wouldn't want to spend the rest of their life with that well adjusted lady.

You may need to be more specific about the Waco shootout. There have been several over the years.

Note to Rhome CC: If you're going to have a website, see that it's kept current: The Easter egg hunt just came off last week. The election results have been canvassed and are now OFFICIAL. Wilson and BeCraft are no longer on the CC. Wilson is no longer the Mayor Pro Tem. This should have been updated the next business day after the meeting certifying the results and swearing in of new members. Davis is no longer an employee, let alone the PC. When updated make sure his name is removed from every page. And then CC meeting minutes. Most cities post either an audio or draft version of meeting minutes within 24 - 48 hours of a meeting. Then the official copy is posted after acceptance. This supports the intent of open meetings. In the last 12+ months it has sometimes been 3 - 4 months before minutes are posted at all. Check to see the last time an official, signed copy of CC minutes has ever been posted. This is a critical issue and just might reduce some of the open records requests some on the CC seem to despise. This is an important part of city government. It should be the most important to-do item the day after a CC meeting. Please help to actively support the intent of open meetings and transparency in government.

Do you like cars and trucks? Same as guns, only amplified if the basis for liking or disliking is "seeing the results too many times".

Idiots kill and are careless with guns, and idiots kill and are careless with cars and trucks even more.

Yeah but you better buy at least a couple hundred packs of cigarettes when you make the trip to MO from OKC just to break even on the costs of fuel, vehicle wear and your time.

Hey Bear - the link she provided was very helpful in determining which shootout. Especially helpful is the very first sentence of the link she provided, which tells us the date and restaurant where this particular shoot out occurred.

Barry may own his grandpapy's snakecharmer, but that doesn't mean he has the foggiest notion how to use it.

You are mistaken 10:59. Davis is a reserve and still parks in his same spot at police HQ

Rhome residents need to keep requesting open records if it upsets the council. Find out how much each of them pays in city tax.

Why is someone "fill-in-the-blank-phobic" if they publicly state that they prefer to marry, be with and have kids with a member of the opposite sex? Is there anyone on this planet that did not get here that way? Why is it so horribly awful for someone to express their belief that we should keep doing that so the planet has people on it a hundred years from now?

4:07pm. What he's doing and what is allowed by code of ordinances are two different circumstances. Reference Ordinance 9.02.072: ....An appointment to the reserve force must be approved by the city council before the appointed person may carry a weapon or otherwise act as a peace officer.... Of course the CC minutes from last CC meeting are not posted. However, don't believe the CC appointed him to Reserve Force AND Councilwomen Davis may not vote on that matter!!!!! 9.02.075 delineates compensation, medical and death benefits. Reserves are not employees by definition of Texas or federal employment law. Technically he can do nothing in an "official" capacity without being appointed by the CC and then directed by the PC (albeit acting at this time). If he was somehow appointed a reserve and he's just "hanging out" at the Police Station, the PC should act as his appointed supervisor and inform him that the behavior is inappropriate. If the WCM is correct that the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into certain of his past behaviors, it's in the City's and his own best interest to stay away until that investigation concludes. He resigned and past employees should never be allowed to just "hang out" at their former place of employment. Allowing it is condoning the behavior AND condoning the behavior places the city in a position of implied responsibility and liability for his actions.

"Look into those cute puppy eyeballs and tell me you don't want to adopt it."

I don't want to adopt it. There is no best case scenario. I will be, its hole life, managing its feces disposal, or healthcare. The best case scenario is that I grow to love it, and then it will die long before I do, so there's heartbreak to deal with.

Eff that. I have kids. I have a wife. I reluctantly have a cat which damnably has managed to worm its cranky self into my affection, but at least he uses the pet door and poops outside. That's enough.

If you own a dog, and you're not registered with AKS, spay or neuter that thing. If you own a cat, spay or neuter that thing. It's a cheap fix to a lot of what is wrong.
