Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Good lord: The Eagles' Glenn Frey is dead at 67. Time is, indeed, not our friend. ("Take It Easy", "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Tequila Sunrise", "Already Gone", "Lyin' Eyes")
  • Didn't I make reference to Hotel California the other day? I'm beginning to believe in the Liberally Lean curse.
  • The defendant in Making Of A Murderer looks like a fat and dumb Ray Liotta
  • Mrs. LL and I watched Knocked Up again over the weekend. As raunchy as that comedy is, I almost tear up every time when the credits roll to a song named That's My Daughter In The Water.
  • Competition over the weekend in the House: Name the 10 Commandments. It is harder than you think. But the Senior in the House had a friend over who could name them all. In order.
  • If I say I would gladly pay $3 to $4 for a gallon of gas if my friends could keep their job in the oilfield, does that make me a socialist?
  • Donald Trump made an appearance at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University and got mocked for saying "Two Corinthians" instead of "Second Corinthians".  The far right wing is not particularly forgiving.
  • Get me these dogs running from the police.
  • The singer of American Pie, Don McLean was arrested. My radio boys couldn't name another song he was famous for. I can. Maybe even better: Vincent. I love those lyrics.
  • TCU play by play man and WBAP employee  Brian Estridge retweeted an article that claims Bill Clinton had affairs with "thousands" of women. The journalistic irresponsibility is beyond comprehension.
  • An Oregon college football player died of complications from tonsil surgery. That's horrible, but it caused me to have an unrelated thought: How many times these days do kids have their tonsils "taken out"?
  • Sports: (1) That Chiefs/Packer game [Edit: Ok, that was a major screw up] was beyond belief. I actually only watched the last 30 minutes but my "OH, MYs!" had Mrs. LL watching it from the top of the stairs, (2) Baylor's women's basketball team throttled UT's unbeaten team in Austin yesterday, and there is a weird tension dating back from last year between the two coaches, (3) I took a nap in the late afternoon which amazingly lasted until after midnight. So I'm up in the middle of the night and end up watching the final moments of Rafael Nadal losing in the first round of the Australian Open. It felt like I was the only one in America who knew it.
  • A pipe bomb blew up a brick mailbox in Parker County? Photo. That was one heck of a bomb.

Packers/Cardinals?

Yes, that does make you a socialist. A large majority of my friends work in and around the patch and most of them will tell you they wished they had a more versatile skill set.

I too would pay more for gas if the guys could have their jobs back.

Oh no!! ISIS in Parker County!

The Chiefs plays the Pats. The Packers played the Cardinals. And being willing to pay $3-4 for gas would only make you a socialist if the production was owned by the state, but you knew that; quality troll there btw. It just means you've got some empathy, but you're also able to comfortably afford $3-4 gas, while there are lots of families out there where the additional money each month makes a difference.

The Chiefs didn't play the Packers

"...I would gladly pay $3 to $4 for a gallon of gas if my friends could keep their job..." - That's a Democrat's mindset. 38¢ of every dollar you pay for gasoline goes to the government. Why don't you just give your friends the whole dollar directly?

pssst....Barry. The Chiefs didn't play the Packers.

I haz a serious sad over Glenn Frey. RIP Desperado.

That would be the CARDINALS/Packers game. Kansas City played New England.

"The far right wing is not particularly forgiving." - Unlike Democrats, the "right wing" knows when it's being pandered to. Also unlike Democrats (aka the "left wing") we hate when politicians pander badly.

Notice how prices were quickly raised when fuel went up, but they haven't dropped now that fuel prices are at historic lows? In fact airlines are adding fees instead of lowering ticket prices.

I bet our mineral tax valuations don't drop accordingly, either. Looking right at you Mickey Hand!

RTG: The absolute WORST boob job ever.

We're finally buying a barrel of oil for what its actually worth.
I don't feel bad about that at all.

Tequila Sunrise drinks should be called Glenn Freys from now on. Jack & Coke is now called The Lemmy after The Motorhead Lemmy guy who recently died.

TCU play by play man

Disney might make a movie about the backup quarterback who led Texas Christian to victory at the Alamo Bowl. Disney might not include the fact that the kid* grew up in the wealthy Houston enclave of River Oaks and hasn't worked a day in his life. Playing sports is playing. Training to play sports is playing. It aint work.

*The so-called college kid turns 24 this year.

It doesn't make you a socialist unless you're willing to use the government to carry out your wishes.

Personally, paying cheaper gas prices is a relief on my wallet and, I'd have big problems if gas were back to $3.50 a gallon.

The oil field workers can go do something else.

It's called supply and demand economics, and it's best for everybody in the long run (although there will be bumps in the road).

Re: "I would gladly pay $3 to $4 for a gallon of gas if my friends could keep their job in the oilfield."
Actually, I think that makes you a Republican.
Buy a product instead of having it given to you.
Pay money for job.
Keep Americans working.
Rebuild US oil economy.
None of those are socialist nor even liberal tenets.

914 made me laugh. The idea that Donald Trump or Greg Abbott supporters are somehow more clairvoyant than others at diagnosing politicians' pandering is laughable.

wordkyle said...

953 - Yet this line of conversation stems from our host's observation that Trump got called out by the "right wing." When was the last time something similar happened with Democrats?

I am not an attorney but it seems that if you build a bunker of a mailbox on public right-of-way and it is hit by a driver who is trying to avoid an object in the road that you would be liable. I don't see these on State highways. If a deer runs in front of my car I would like to know that the road shoulder would give me wiggle room. If I did hit a mailbox I would hope that my truck is stronger than it is.

nitpicking:
while the accepted pronunciation is Second Corinthians, wouldn't it be more correct to say Two Corinthians, because it is not written as an ordinal number? It's generally expressed as 2 (or II)

When the Musers were challenged to name one other Don McLean song, I immediately thought of Vincent, a haunting tribute to the tortured life and talent of Van Gogh. It's the only one I know besides American Pie. Most folks would probably connect if you said "Starry, starry night". And that opening line from the song probably makes some people think it's the title of the painting

Does anyone else know exactly which Random Thoughts Wordy is going to comment on?

I read certain posts and think "predictable, boring Wordy is going to comment on this one for sure."

And then he does. And it's predictably lame.

Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back"

Greatest song lyric EVER! Farewell, Glenn Frey.

10:05, yes, I live on a state maintained road. The individual buys the basic mailbox they want; then, the state crew comes out and installs it with a little cement and a lightweight, easily bent pole. I know it is easily bent; because, one night a couple of years ago, a drunk tested it. The box was 30 feet down the ditch beaten to a pulp, the pole was laid completely flat to the ground.

Skippy, I'm starting to believe in the liberally lean curse also. Could you mention Hillary and Obammy more in your comments?

No...that's not a hard question Hundreds of thousands of jobs lost in this country.

One of the most disturbing things Trump said, at Liberty University, was "When I'm President, I'll protect and defend Christianity." Trump then went on to assure the "good Christian people" that when he's POTUS businesses will be saying "Merry Christmas" and do away with "Happy Holidays." It's like Trump has NEVER read the US Constitution.

Of course there was thunderous applause to Trump's proclamations because Christians seem to fail to understand, a POTUS that can "defend and protect Christianity" could just as easily be a POTUS who defends and protects Islam/Religion de jour.

Barry, your getting pretty good at the photoshop thingy.
Now take any full length pic of Hillary and place orange coverall's on her--tussle her hair a little- and sneakers with no laces and you will be a prophet of sorts.

Seems the Inspector General was informed that beyond the top secret e-mails that were revealed previously--it has now been disclosed that she sent quite a few that are classified "eyes only".
Wow!
We know what Comey will do--recommend indictment.
Now the million dollar question is what will Obama's puppet -Lynch do with it?
Comments? Barry on prosecutorial procedures?

Anonymous said...

Yes Mzchief,
Because heaven forbid we would have an administration that has memo's sent out to all fed departments advising supervisors to report any and all muslim violations-

Attorney General threatening against hateful rhetoric involving muslims-

Preferential events at White House-

Foreign policy geared to non -Christian refugees-

Directs Justice department to pursue hate crime charges for hanging bacon on door knobs-

Just to name a few……

To Anonymous 1:33...

Just because you believe Obama granted special "protection" to Muslims doesn't mean it's legal for Trump to "protect and defend Christianity."

That's the problem with the Trump Chumps, they hate Obama for doing the EXACT thing Trump is promising to do but it's okay since Trump is doing what they want.

Trump and Obama are just the opposite side of the same coin. Both are thin-skinned bullies who think nothing of violating the US Constitution to get what they want.

No, saying you would pay a lot more for gas so the oilfield could go again is not socialist. I agree 100%. From your mouth to God's ear as they say..

It sounds almost like MzChief has been medicated and is not sane. But... nah. We know better. Just because she dislikes Trump does;t mean she's turned around fully, it just means she's the broken clock that's right twice a decade.

1029,

Are you serious? WK is in your head to that degree? You actually wake up, maybe 10:15 or so, and begin your day worrying about what WK might post about?

You are a sick puppy. See if your medicaid might get you an Obama shrink, cause you need it.

So the local Dem Chairperson, has started a all out revolt in the local party... she refused an application to run for party chair 3 times making the applicant drive to Denton each time only to refuse to accept it. Why did she have to drive to Denton? Does MS Smith not reside in Wise?
