It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

So you may have forgotten what great sin Tom Brady was found to have committed: He was suspended for four games because he "was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of [the ball boys] involving the release of air from Patriots game balls.”

  • I'm seeing seven people arrested in Wise County overnight for solicitation of prostitution.
  • A legislative hearing was held in Kerrville yesterday about the flooding early last month, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick showed up to bad mouth the local County Judge. (Side note: I would like to be able to look at that map on the wall.)

  • A horrible crash near Austin last Friday, which we are just now hearing about, claimed the lives of five women from Dallas.  "DPS says a Ram truck pulling a livestock trailer crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Chevy Malibu and a Mercedes SUV traveling behind it. All five victims were in the Mercedes SUV as it flipped and caught fire."

    • The lady in the middle of the photo below, Brianna Valadez, was one of the victims, and the other four may be the other four victims. Fox 4 News implied that, but never expressly said it. (They only said the photo was taken from an online slideshow posted by Valadez's employer.)

  • The Arkansas alleged killer of the couple hiking with their children looks a little different now compared to when he was a teacher in Flower Mound.

  • All cat lives matter.

  • And another complete highway shutdown this morning. Told ya.

  • It's Orwellian. It's officially here. "The change came about as part of a content review that the Smithsonian agreed to undertake following pressure from the White House to remove an art museum director."

  • Trump's destruction of the Rose Garden is almost complete.

    • And now he's going to remodel the South Wing of the White House.

  • Epstein update:

  • Is it possible that every network and social media outlet is talking about a Sydney Sweeney "controversy" because it's a reason to show Sydney Sweeney?

  • How is this a news story? It has to be a paid ad tricked up as news.

  • Man, that topless Texas D.A. is still going strong:

  • Random box score from last night.

  • Not a whole lot of legal significance, but yesterday evening a court of appeals out of Houston affirmed a Wise County criminal conviction and 55 year sentence.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 27 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

It took a long time for me to realize Trump wouldn't be rejected as a joke by the Republican Party.

  • A former 5th grade teacher has been arrested in the murder of the couple who was hiking with their young children in Arkansas.

  • I think I've found my new favorite crime filed in Wise County's Justice of the Peace #4 yesterday: "POSSESSION OF UNDERSIZED CRAPPIE."
  • Video.

  • New York shooting update:

  • A new defense to DWI may have just been revealed:

  • Russia's invasion of Ukraine is still going on.  Fifty-two more were injured:

  • Traffic observation:  It seems like every day in the last a week a major highway in the metroplex has been completely shutdown due to a wreck.  This morning it was I-35 southbound at the Decatur exit.

  • I've never understood this proposal (which is supported by Wise County Rep. Andy Hopper.)  State lawmakers continuously attack local governments (from city councils to school boards to county commissioners) and then strip them of their power and put it in their own hands of Austin.  So it is in the best interest of local governments to fight back. And if that requires hiring a lobbyist, so be it.

  • The Business Second™. This story was on the front page story of the Wall Street Journal.  I don't think we have any idea how the job market is about to be blown up due to A.I.

  • In the midst of her own social media frenzy regarding legalizing marijuana, the topless Texas DA actually reposted her topless campaign video yesterday and sparred with everyone about it.
  • Messenger - Above the Fold

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

Lots of details and photos here.

  • Everyone freaked out last night after a major, major earthquake off the coast of Russia.  When one of these things happens off the West Coast, and it will, it will be catastrophic.

  • Story.

  • Thanks to a 50-49 Senate vote last night, a Trump sycophant, who is completely unfit and and ethical trainwreck, now has a lifetime appointment on a federal appellate court.

  • Trump is uncharacteristically making PR snafus -- and damning admissions -- left and right. He thinks he can talk himself out of anything, but that no longer seems to be true.  Audio.

    • And if you don't recall Virginia Giuffre, she was one of Epstein's outspoken victims who committed suicide earlier this year.  She "was 16 when she was recruited to Mr. Epstein’s sex ring while working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago in 2000, and said that she was groomed and abused by Mr. Epstein and his associates [including Prince Andrew] until she broke contact with him in 2002."

  • Good grief, I finally agree with Marjorie on something.

  • The topless DA in far West Texas is a pistol.

  • I try to avoid posting mugshots, but this one out of Corpus Christi from last week is, uh, something.

  • Did anyone have Katy Perry and the former Canadian Prime Minister on their Bingo card?

  • The Business Second™.

  • The Business Second - Flashback™: A short YouTube video clip from WFAA in 1976 ponders why Coppell can't attract development on its vast open land.  The lone bit of construction, the reporter says, was in one area where homes from $50,000 to $100,000 were being constructed. One was pictured.

  • The hunt for the killer of the couple in the Arkansas state park continues.  But they still haven't even ID'd him.
