- A very big fire in Palo Pinto County has really grown overnight leading to evacuations in southern Jack County.
- A good size fire along FM51 north of Decatur kept crews busy yesterday afternoon.
- Yesterday we had a couple of court sentencing cases come to a head in Decatur after two defendants had earlier pled guilty in district court. The first one ended up with a 10 year probation. It's my understanding that is what a pre-sentence investigation recommended.
- The other one involved a guy with a criminal history who pled guilty to Intoxication Manslaughter.
- Flashback to when that wreck happened. I guess I was correct:
- There was a police chase down I-35 that ended up in Burleson last night. The suspect ended up dead and an officer was shot in the leg.
- Video has appeared of Wise County Rep. Andy Hopper being obsessed with Muslims instead of focusing on issues important to us. Maybe he will recommend that all Muslims wear an arm band -- you know, just for starters.
- The owner of the San Francisco 49ers had a bad, and very odd, weekend: He got caught up in one of those prostitution stings by cops.
- Kind of funny. Video.
- I'm barely following the Lindsay Clancy trial, but I must say I've never seen a judge instruct a jury to disregard evidence by standing up and being this animated.
- He's trying too hard.
- Target's PR department was busy.
- Update from yesterday: She is no longer on the run.
- He has to be one of the dumbest men in America, right?
- LSU signed two football players yesterday who were just in NFL training camps for the Browns and the Saints. I'm as confused as you are.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts
- Decatur's Victory Christian Academy opened their football season on Friday night and took the lead in the fourth quarter with only two seconds left, 80-76. Wow. And they then lost.
- This was expected.
- Normally both sides submit a proposed order in the event they win a hearing. If this was the DA's efforts, it's a sloppy effort. You always have a place for the judge to fill in the date of the order.
- Big single car wreck in Dallas at 5:40 a.m. on Sunday morning.
- If you think that must be a ton of bags, you're wrong. The number stolen was four.
- If the heat doesn't get us, the wild fires might.
- Pete Delkus is working hard.
- Oh, my.
- On the run: Day Seven.
- This is what authoritarianism looks like.
- But no one will stop him from doing anything. From the Shadow Docket on Friday.
- Trump got bored over the weekend and started a trade war with Canada.
- A 48 year old assistant U.S. Attorney hung himself in his office. "He joined the US attorney’s office in 2010 and twice stepped in as acting US attorney for the Southern District of California during leadership changes, serving roughly two months in both 2023 and 2025."
- Legal nerdy stuff: I'm just a simple country criminal defense lawyer, but I do know that in civil cases you can't amend your pleading after the trial to submit a theory to bust the Texas punitive damage cap on issues that weren't submitted to the jury. (PDF of opinion out of the Austin court of appeals.)
- The baseball stadium scoreboard at the Universtiy of Lousisana on Friday.
- Here's a gift link to the top headline article below. I'm curious as to what the damages would be even if barratry was proven. It doesn't seem like much, if any.
