Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

That didn't last long.

  • The Wise County Commissioners meet today. AI is on the agenda. (It's probably nothing, but you never know.)

  • Sunday evening: "A preliminary investigation showed that Gary Higginbotham was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic westbound on U.S. 380 when he entered U.S. 281 and failed to yield the right-of-way to a northbound 2012 Nissan Xterra, troopers said. The SUV then struck the motorcycle. The driver of the Nissan, an 80-year-old male, and his passenger, a 76-year-old female, both of Montague, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the crash."
  • Her blood alcohol concentration was 0.294. The punishment phase of the trial continues today. Defense attorneys are George Milner and Scott Palmer.

  • Authorities believe he had been in the water for 48 hours.  No missing person reports had been made.

  • The souvenir photos of guests on the ride which are automatically displayed on a screen afterwards for purchase actually captured the beginning of the man falling from the ride. Someone snapped a picture of the display at the park.

  • From Cruel Intentions fame:

  • The Wall Street Journal obtained video of the event for its story.  The fact that his girlfriend was with him is notable since he was still married at the time. His wife would file for divorce six months later.

  • The Authoritarian State:

  • Social media involving politicians and a country music singer produced a doozy yesterday:

  • Trumpisms:
  • Notable death.
  • A reporter was in the courtroom and created this thread as the hearing unfolded. It was wild.  If someone's name came up at the hearing who factored into the decision to cut down the trees, the judge was ordering the government to go get them and bring them to hearing.

  • Correction from yesterday: The new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, will have her first press conference today.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

The AG's office would actually push the case to trial in Wise County's district court.  -- where they lost, and he was acquitted.

  • This thing went over the Runaway Bay bridge, through Bridgeport and into Decatur and beyond on Saturday.

  • Boyd's own, the far right wing former radio host of The Ticket and The Fan, Greg Williams, is concerned after he learned someone from his hometown is being deported by ICE.

  • Didn't I just say we are seeing more and more of these family shootings? Over the weekend:

  • My favorite pastor posted about his  pro-life position. Wait, I've got that wrong. And since he's quoting from the Old Testament, I suppose we need to round up all adulterers for the firing line, too.

  • Trump is using the Justice Department again as a weapon. Welcome to the Authoritarian State. It is here.
  • It’s about time to stop fooling ourselves. Russia invaded Ukraine, but the first country to surrender was the United States with its support of Russia.

    • If you make a deal with Russia to get diesel prices down before the election, what would you call that? Russian collusion?

    • He couldn't be more of a Russian operative if he tried.

    • Immediately after the Russian diesel deal, Zelinsky announced Russia made a vicious hit killing twelve, including three children.

  • Trump's new press secretary will give her first news conference this morning.

    • I'm beginning to see a pattern with that job.

    • She'll fit right in.

  • Trumpisms:
    • Trump had a meltdown over not winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

    • Over the weekend, he continued to lie about the Reflecting Pool. By the way, it remains drained and under repair.

    •  He really said it. And then the people behind him clapped.

  • The Business Second™.  At least it's not off Bonds Ranch Road for once.

  • Look at the headline below and then realize the story contains this sentence: "The shocking discovery was made in the area of what was Bismarck’s first cemetery from 1873 to 1877 . . . ."
  • Legal stuff: If you want to watch a wild lawyer in action, check out the attorney for Kim Mathers (Eminem's ex-wfe) during a bond hearing.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

Jerry Jones was hit in the head with a helmet being lowered for his autograph.

  • I think this is incredibly goulish, but also I think that the public will cringe once they see how guresome it is for the state to kill someone.

    • Side note: Nidal Hasan is a paraplegic so is he going to be in a wheelchair during the execution?
    • Final note: I'm surprised Trump wouldn't want to make the execution a pay-per-view.

  • Wild story (gift link).  It looks like the murder happened at an apartment complex along 287 as you are getting close to I-35.

  • Why not just sue the guy who filmed you? You know the answer ($$$). Story.

  • I'll give this lady the benefit of the doubt in this story, but there is also a GoFundMe page for it. "Around $1,500 was inside Price's purse when it was stolen, alongside Devin's expensive medication, which she says costs around $2,000 to replace."

  • Talarico not being seen for almost two weeks is incredibly weird.

  • ICE shot another person last night, but this time in New York. I don't know if this was justified or not.
  • Faithful readers will remember me mentioning the Flowers case before when the Supreme Court got involved.

  • This is what living under an Authoritarian State is like. We are here.

  • This is truly and literally Orwellian.  Government is controlling the language.

  • Trump is calling for violence. There's no other way to interpret this.

  • Talk about Orwellian!  But at least it is only in sports.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 7 years and 98 days.
