Random Tuesday Morning thoughts





President Obama came to Dallas and met with Mayor Mike Rawlings and Gov. Rick Perry. This photo got a lot of press because of Perry's expression as Rawlings and Obama yuk it up. 

  • The Houston pictures are misleading.  The areas that flooded are routinely flooded during major storms. And don't the Astros have a home game tonight that hasn't been postponed?

  • If Alec Baldwin is convicted then I'll be convinced that juries have become 100% unpredictable.

  • What's up with the matching suits and ties?  History teaches us to fear white guys who dress alike and who target a specific group of people. 

     

  • Wait, this is Jones' lawsuit against the alleged daughter? You want confusing, I've got you some confusing.   Here's what I think is going on:

    • The "daughter" sued in state court to establish paternity. (I've said a million times that I don't understand why she did this because it's not about money.) 
    • Jones denies it and called it a money grab and either said or implied that she was an "extortionist" or "shakedown artist." (Which is weird because, once again, she wasn't asking for money.) 
    • The daughter then sued Jones again but this time for defamation because of the comments. Somehow, and I'm not sure how, that lawsuit ends up in federal court in Texarkana.
    • Jones countersued in that federal court for breach of contract for the original non-disclosure agreement  (which is weird because the daughter wasn't a party to the contract that momma signed.)
    • The federal judge then dismissed the defamation claims but since Jones has countersued, that countersuit was still pending. It is the only claim left and what is now set for trial.
  • On a more serious note, what happened here?

  • Boeing can't get out of its own way.  (Not to mention that Boeing's first manned mission to the space station, which launched on June 5th and was only supposed to last a week, is still up there because of mechanical problems.)

  • "Gilmore met the child’s mother at the hotel pool only about five hours before the July 6 incident, police wrote in an arrest affidavit."




  • Dateline Burleson. I'll admit that I have no idea how a gift card, stolen from a store but not yet activated, works.  


  • He's 47 years old and screwed up a lifetime appointment. And the judicial report (PDF) is very detailed. Oh, my.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Another mass shooting you probably have forgotten about. Wikipedia article here. 

  •  The hype around a Category 1 Hurricane is over the top.  In the end, the windstorm that hit the metroplex at the end of May will have caused more damage.    

    • I would say that Dan Patrick is pulling an Alexander Haig, but I'm not sure many people would know what I was talking about.

    • Over-reaction example.

    • Another example:
    • We've got the obligatory weatherman standing in the wind this morning. 

  • I've complained about how metroplex news coverage is getting worse and worse. Case in point: It looks like there were two drownings on Grapevine Lake the extended holiday weekend, but they weren't reported on any of the local TV news stations. Edit: Fox 4 finally reported on the most recent one this morning.

  • Here's what the lady looks like who had half her calf torn off by a shark in South Padre Island. She's from Celina.

  • Pretty interesting story out of Hood County where a district clerk position had to be filled by appointment from the local Republican Party. The winner was the person who cast the deciding vote for herself in executive session. (Side note: The district judge down there talks too much.)

  • Legal nerdy stuff: The Dallas Court of Appeals reversed a conviction on Friday. You can't do that:

  • Trump mad this morning.

  • Other than a video of Trump on a golf course, we've not seen Trump in public in 11 days.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts




This referred to Judge Don Willett.  He would be nominated to a federal 
judgeship three years later in September 2017. 

  • We had a real life Jaws situation at South Padre Island yesterday. The reports were very conflicting, but it looks like there were two shark bites on two different people while one other person was injured while "grazed."  Video (graphic.)


  • Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare is going after the criminal courts in that county suggesting  there financial abuse: “We don’t want to see people get paid for 40 hours of work when they’re really working 10 hours . . . .  We don’t want to see mismanagement of dollars where somebody is being paid more than their salary is supposed to be."

  • I try not to judge book-in photos, but  . . . 


  • This was in White Settlement. "Police say the woman had pushed a cart full of clothes to the dressing room and went to get another cart, but the manager stopped the suspect and confronted her. At this moment, the suspect reportedly sprayed the manager and once the other employees came to help, they were sprayed too." She got away.

  • Fort Worth Police confiscated some fireworks and we got some pictures. But I'm not sure why a box in bottom photo reads, "COVID DESTROYER."


  • President Biden sits down with ABC's George Stephanopoulos today, and the interview will air tonight. 



  • This is weird out of Waco. He was accused of harassing his own probation officer who he was required to report to.  After a ton of voicemails, she finally had enough of him and transferred him to someone else to report to. But "officials say he continued to leave messages on the woman’s phone, alleging he left 56 voicemails from April 26 to May 15, with such messages as 'You’re a good-looking woman,' 'You brought this on yourself,' 'I know I’m going to get locked up for this,' 'I’m attracted to you,' and 'I need to quit harassing you.'"


  • I can't say I'm well versed on U.K. politics, but the Labour Party throwing out the Conservative Party after 14 years seems to be a big deal.  And the outgoing Prime Minister actually knows something about the peaceful transfer of power that we used to have here in the U.S.: "Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country’s stability and future," Rishi Sunak said.

  • Someone in Mexico snapped a pic of Dak in a walking boot. He texted the Star-Telegram late yesterday and said that he was wearing the boot for precautionary reasons because "the last time I went deep sea fishing my (ankle) swole up.” Ummkay. 


  • The Business Second™.  I didn't know Neiman Marcus was worth that much, and I didn't think any department store would be thinking about expanding. 

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 5 years and 0 days.
