Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




I don't remember him being a "whipping boy."

  • There's a 48  hour extension of the pause in fighting in Gaza. I really didn't think both sides would be able to pull this off.  

  • I can't believe this actually happened. He has begun his 30 day sentence after being convicted last month in a trial in Montague County.
     

  • A "tribute service" for Rosalyn Carter is today. I came across this photo and caption yesterday: "Here at a Kentucky Derby party in 1983 with Hillary Clinton, John Y. Brown Jr., Ivana and Donald Trump."

  • Gov. Abbott went skydiving yesterday.   The "tandem jump" seems like cheating to me. It's pretty much like getting on an amusement park ride. 

  • Call me old, but he doesn't catch even a just a little bit of heat for not being married to this gal?


  • Sports Illustrated is in a scandal after it was revealed that some of their articles were generated by AI including AI generated bios and photographs of the fake authors. The magazine blamed a third party contractor. 


  • The Business Second™: Insurance companies, which are always sitting on piles of cash, have decided to invest in . . . warehouses. 

  • Legal nerdy stuff: I can't say I'm familiar with Young Thug or his RICO trial going on in Atlanta, but online lawyers were all bent out shape because of this moment during opening statements yesterday.  It's the equivalent of saying, "Even though the burden is 100% on us to prove the defendant guilty, he won't bring you an evidence that he's innocent."

  • The "Memo of Understanding" for the new Aggie coach is interesting.  The way it's written is that all those bonuses would be cumulative if the Aggies go a long way into the playoffs.

  • Fun fact of the day:

  • Breaking: "Hunter Biden’s lawyers have told the House Oversight Committee that the president’s son is willing to testify on December 13 in their inquiry into his actions."  What a relief. I've been staying up at nights worrying about that laptop.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Over the last 10 years, online shopping has killed the wild scenes we use to see on Friday morning. 

  • The hostage release by Hamas continued over the weekend, but today is the last day of the cease fire unless it is extended. But, look out, things might really take a turn for the worse -- look who just arrived: 

  • We've got an inmate escape out of Fannin County (98 miles from Decatur). 

  • No one should cheer this.


  • Let me tell you, this guy was responsible for a lot of weird stuff on Saturday morning TV when I was a kid.

  • Seems like a big deal. "Two ballistic missiles were fired from Houthi rebel-controlled Yemen toward a US warship in the Gulf of Aden, after the US Navy responded to a distress call from a commercial tanker that had been seized by armed individuals, the US military said Sunday." 


  • Once again, we go through this "busiest travel day of the year" fake dance every year.

  • Legal musing: For the life of me I don't understand why prosecutors keep flirting with indicting Alec Baldwin for the accidental shooting on the set of Rust a couple of years ago. But if this paragraph is true, they should be suspended if not disbarred. They convened another grand jury on the case on Thursday.

  • Ending with sports: 
    • The Aggies have a new coach after a chaotic Saturday when an alumni revolt killed the hiring of Mark Stoops of Kentucky. Mike Elko of Duke arrived at College Station late last night. 


    • The Evil Empire has a Big 12 Championship basically gifted to them after Oklahoma State earned the right to face them after a limping, yet winning, effort against BYU. Texas has opened as an 11.5 favorite for Saturday's game. If they lose this, it would rival the loss to Colorado in the 2001 championship game. 

    • Hot color commentator opinion: I think Tony Romo is 100% better at his job, and certainly far more entertaining, than Troy Aikman.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts




Random billboard that got my attention back in the day. And got some national blog attention as well. 

  • Most businesses are still closed, it's an extended holiday, there is no Update from the Messenger, but here I am: The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.™
  • The Hamas/Israel exchange was in big jeopardy yesterday but, this morning at 8:00 a.m., Hamas was set to release 13 hostages -- all women and children -- in exchange for Israel releasing 39 Palestinians. It has happened per the Wall Street Journal as I hit the "publish" button. 

  • The Messenger had someone monitoring the scanner yesterday:

    • That spot has always been a death trap. But I'm not 100% sure why. 


  • Man, I don't even have an opinion . . . 

  • Around noon on Wednesday, a car became a fireball at the Canadian/U.S. border as it literally launched itself into a border crossing checkpoint. (Video.)   It turned out to be an accident involving a couple in their 50s in a Bentley on their way to Canada to see, of all things, a KISS concert. 

    • But in proving we are the dumbest country, a Fox News reporter immediately reported that it was a terrorists attack.  Fox News ran with it on TV. Her initial tweet was three sentences long and every one of them was wrong.


    • And then, true to form, our dumbest representatives, almost giddy to have a terrorist attack occur, went to Twitter to blame you know who: 


    • Back to the accident itself, it reminded me of almost the exact same happening at DFW Airport in 2010. (Video.)
  • Not the point of this story, but how far away from we are hundreds of thousands of deadly drones launched at the same time which can find their target using facial recognition and AI interpretation of recent GPS historical data? It's like a Black Mirror episode already here.

  • Holy, cow! I supported the impeachment of Ken Paxton, but I didn't agree with the House hiring a bunch of outside lawyers who thought grossly more of themselves than their skills justified. And now we have the opening bill for taxpayers disclosed for one of them, and she was third in command. Sheer robbery. 

  • Don't do that.

     

  • Border crisis!

  • A Wise County candidate for the Texas House had the worst advice ever for Thanksgiving. 

    • He quickly deleted and modified it.

  • Current candidates for the Congressional House seat that will represent the southern part of Wise County.

  • I posted this JFK photo a few years back when I first saw it, and I'm convinced it doesn't get enough acclaim. It was post-shooting with the motorcade leaving downtown on the way to Parkland. Background.

  • Not sure why (probably the parade), but the Tech Tech band was on the plaza of The Today Show on Wednesday morning. Video.

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 4 years and 141 days.
