More Hatin' On Madden

I know I've gone football intensive, but this one interests me. (Here is the video clip). Most Cowboy fans remember when Barry Switzer decided to go for it on 4th and 1 against Philadelphia in the mid 1990s. The Cowboys were so deep in their own territory that if they failed to get the one yard, then Philadelphia would certainly kick the game winning field goal. The Switzer moment was famous because Emmitt Smith was stuffed for no gain. Luckily for the Cowboys, the two minute warning occurred before the ball was snapped. The officials nullified the play and the Cowboys got a do-over. Unfortunately, and this was the idiotic part, Switzer went for it again - and Emmitt got stuffed again. But I like the clip because it shows what an idgit Madden is. The rule is simple: If the two minute warning (that is, if the clock rolls down to 2:00) before the ball is snapped, the play should be called dead. In this case, the clock rolled down to 2:00, on the next second the ball was snapped, and on the next second the officials blew the whistle because of the two minute warning. Madden goes nuts because the whistle wasn't blown before the ball was snapped. Of course, that doesn't matter. The key is that the clock hit 2:00 before the ball was snapped. And to think he is a Super Bowl winning coach.

Random High Brow Thought

After being inundated all week long with news about the NFL Hall of Fame Induction ceremony (primarily of Troy Aikman but also of Rayfield Wright), this thought pops into my mind: What an incredibly shallow society we are. There are people all over America, Texas, and Wise County that bust their butts for the betterment of mankind. Whether they be social workers, teachers, doctors, lawyers (yeah, some of us spend a ton of time helping the poor), pastors, CPS workers, - and the list goes on and on - we will give national TV and radio coverage, as well as multi-page newspaper spreads, to someone that . . . uh . . .played football very well. That's what we honor. That's what we cherish. And, hey, I'm a football fan.

At Least He Wasn't Called "Lumpy"

I'm not a NASCAR fan but I did get a kick today, prior to the race, of Tony Stewart calling Carl Edwards the "Eddie Haskell of NASCAR" and Edwards calling Stewart a "moron." The quick youtube.com clip is here. The NFL needs more of this kind of stuff.

I Caught A Little Bit Of ESPN's X Games Last Night . . .

and a thought occurred to me: Where does one learn to do a trick with a motorcycle? I mean, that learning curve would appear to be expensive and dangerous.

This Completely Screws Up My Schedule

From the Morning News: "Ohio State announced it has agreed to play OU in a home and home series in 2016-2017."

Cat Fight

Terrell Owens has been named in a Dallas civil court motion as a witness to a bar fight in East Dallas. According to court records, an ex-Eagles cheerleader named Tara Smith attacked a woman named Christi Proctor at the Candle Room, punching her in the mouth and pushing her down. Owens has been named in the motion because he knew her and might have invited Tara Smith to the bar. (Yep, that's her.)

You'll only appreciate it if you know about the OU-Tech game of last year.

And They'll Be Sporting Some Grillz

For the first time I can remember, NFL officials will be sporting new uniforms this year (shown).

Does This Affect Football Season?

This guy is all over the news predicting that the current war involving Israel is the beginning of the "end of times." He keeps telling me to read two chapters of Ezekial. But I won't have to because you guys will explain it for me.

"Boom" ad nauseum

The Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions are this afternoon and we'll be forced to listen to John Madden utter the phrase "that's what football is all about" no less than fifty times. That guy drives me insane. And I still remember a quote from an old KLIF sports commentator that said, "He gets paid $2 million a year to tell me what I just saw!"

And They All Listen to KLIF's Darryl Ankarlo

And to think there are so many people that believe 9/11 conspiracies that a new book from the editor of Popular Mechanics has been published to debunk them. And I'm skeptical of everything, and a 9/11 conspiracy has never crossed my mind for a minute.
