Let 'Em Go
The jury in the Dena Schlosser capital murder trial (the baby arm case) begin deliberations again this (Saturday) morning.
It's the third day of deliberations. They have already told the judge on Thursday that they were hopelessly deadlocked, and "no one is going to change their decision," but the judge ordered them to continue deliberating.
It's time to let them go. If there is a verdict now, there is to great of a risk that one or more of the jurors has simply given up and wants to go home.
Perhaps This Is Why The War Isn't Going Real Well
"Don't ask, Don't tell" was supposed to be a pretty good army policy.
The government just forgot to add, "And don't shoot a video and post it on the web!". Oh, no.

It Wasn't Because He Was Guilty As Sin
The Barbee guy was convicted today of capital murder for killing his ex-girlfriend and seven year old child. This caught my eye from the Star-Telegram:
Shortly after [the judge] called a lunch break, a woman who identified herself as Jodi Fratta said she was a spokeswoman for Barbee’s family and spoke to reporters.
Fratta said the family blames the guilty verdict on the unwillingness of Barbee’s attorneys to listen to their ideas.
“The family still loves him and believes in him,” said Fratta, adding that his family believes that Barbee is innocent. “The state of Texas didn’t convict Stephen Barbee of capital murder, his own attorneys did.”
The "A" Word
South Dakota just passed law, awaiting the governor's signature, that outlaws virtually all abortions.
It is clearly unconstitutional based upon the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade. Uh....wait....I don't think Alito and Roberts were on the court back then, were they?
The battle has begun.
(But if the Supreme Court overturns Wade, it doesn't mean that abortion automatically becomes illegal across the nation. It will be up to each State legislature to make that decision. With this caveat: If there are any abortion laws still on the books that were never repealed. they would automatically spring back into life. I'm trying to determine if Texas ever repealed its abortion law - something I serously doubt).
Edit: Texas no longer has an abortion law because it has been "repealed by implication" (a concept that made my head hurt). See McCorvey v. Hill, No. 03-10711 (5th Cir. 2004)
