Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

In defense of CNN, that was a question someone actually asked then-candidate Trump.in a press conference.

  • A brief thunderstorm actually shut down Highway 183 to the south of DFW airport yesterday afternoon. And it was during rush hour.

  • Missiles and drones were exchanged late yesterday during the "cease fire" with Iran.  The bottom photo is of Kuwait's international airport.

  • "Tiffany Doolan, who had worked for Wylie ISD for 19 years, notified the district of her resignation on May 26. In a statement, the district said Doolan had been a victim of targeted online attacks and public hostility." Islamophobia seems to be an all-time high.

  • If those numbers are correct, that's a lot of drugs.

  • On the "shadow docket" last night, the Supreme Court continued to take us back to the Jim Crow era. Now Alabama just has one predominantly black congressional district.

  • CBS will become Fox News when all is said and done.

  • We are supposed to just take their word for it?

    • But . . .

  • The town of Trinidad seems to be a hotbed of small time petty politics.
  • Good grief -- look at that photo.

  • I mentioned this story yesterday, but I had no idea that he had been held in jail without bond for three years before his trial.

  • You go, girl “Before I leave the stage, I have one last thing to say. Every single person here has a voice; we have the privilege to use it when millions around the world are struggling and suffering to be heard. Whether it’s the millions suffering in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Afghanistan and so many other countries around the world, or families being torn apart by ICE." Video. (The New York Post headline is, as always, a little over the top.)

  • The Business Second™. Meet the Oligarchs.

  • Fun Ranger fact:
  • The prediction market Kalshi has Texas Tech a slight favorite over Texas in the softball championship.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

The total taxable value in the county in 2016 was $6.1 billion.  The number released last week for 2026 was $14.9 billion which was described as "stagnant."

  • The Track Meet Stabbing trial: "About 600 Collin County residents were called for jury duty today, according to state District Judge John Roach Jr. That’s twice the number of people who were summoned for the Tanner Horner death penalty case in Tarrant County."

    • This is interesting: "Opening statements and testimony are expected to begin Thursday, and Roach said he plans to have court on Saturdays."
  • Anyone else at least think the name of the annual even is just a little bit funny? Story.

  • So the Cowboys have to compensate AT&T for having its name covered up for the World Cup, right?

  • Dateline Iowa. That guy went to three different places to kill his family members.

  • Seeing lots of reaction to this verdict.  The case was live-streamed. The verdict announcement is here.

  • A massive attack by Russia last night. "Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russia had fired 73 missiles and more than 600 drones in the overnight attack." Trump did campaign on stopping this war "within 24 hours", right?

  • The Iran War continues to see no end as Iran isn't pleased that Israel is using all the chaos to invade and bomb Lebanon.  Trump isn't please with Israel either:

  • It's hard to tell if the insane Insurrectionist Slush Fund is dead or just paused.  I'm betting on paused.

  • No one fears the free press as much as Pete Hegseth.
  • The Business Second™.  Wars are now fought with drones, but's not going to stop the way business is done.
  • "The lawsuit alleges that Bain was walking near the Supple Science Building on the San Marcos campus on Sept. 5 when he stepped onto an 'elevated manhole cover' he believed to be concrete. The manhole cover was actually “worn plastic or plexiglass material that merely appeared to be concrete."

  • Dave Campbell's Texas Football released its cover and it is all Tech. But the most notable thing is that the NIL money man, Cody Campbell, is there on the left.

  • Adrian Peterson, Jr. just committed to the University of Texas?

  • It will be Texas Tech vs. Texas in the College Softball World Series. Both teams had to win doubleheaders yesterday and, amazingly, they both did. The best of three series begins tomorrow evening on ESPN.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

\
The death toll would eventually rise to nine after their "light medium tactical vehicle" overturned in a swollen creek.

  • This trial has the potential to get out of hand. But it won't be live-streamed.

  • We are not told exactly how this happened or what "gain control" actually means.

  • Self-driving cars can't do worse than humans do. All of these headlines are from this weekend:

  • Drama at All Saints Episcopal School. Gift link.

  • When a city starts micro-managing its municipal court, there's a bigger problem, often cancerous, within that city. It just takes a little time for the smarter minds within it to figure it out.

  • I thought this war was on the verge of getting wrapped up last week.

    • New this morning:

  • Remember those boat strikes down south? They had still been going on -- Without a war declared against them or giving them a trial. Just summarily executed, regardless of guilt or innocence.

  • Trump's online postings on Saturday were worse than normal. Truly the unfiltered words and thoughts of what's on his mind in real time, and it is not comforting. A collection of them is here.

  • Trump is big mad, too. And he wants to turn the Fourth of July into a MAGA rally.

  • Trump had a bad day in the courts on Friday. Not that he'll pay attention to any of the rulings.

  • One in five have left.

  • I don't see how that Tech quarterback is going to get clearance to play this season.

  • I say it every year: College softball is big time entertainment. And both Tech and Texas won in dramatic fashion yesterday in the ongoing world series in Oklahoma City.
