Random Monday Morning Thoughts

The "Clock Boy" incident in Irving.

  • Metroplex quick hits:
    • Six injured when a car plowed into a restaurant of Friday evening in Southlake.

    • I missed this last week. Video

    • Walmart warehouse in Sanger was damaged last night by storms. .

  • I warned on Friday that if this happens, we've reached a new level of "It's Over." Well, it happened.

    • Then it got worse. Much worse. There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes, but Trump did it on Saturday. The five alarm fire continues.

    • This is Trump's choice to replace the U.S. Attorney in Virginia who will indict who he wants, evidence be damned. She's been busy white-washing the Smithsonian museums for him.

  • We are watching the death of democracy by a thousand cuts.

  • So the soon-to-be  Border Czar was just taking $50,000 in a paper bag on video? And the FBI closed the investigation upon Trump's election?

  • The plan is nuts, and the fact that Trump's picture is on the card is nuttier.

  • Not measuring a problem doesn't mean it's no longer a problem.

  • That "allegedly" is doing a lot of work here. Paxton doesn't even know if the the professor actually kicked the girl out of class. (Here's the video of the first part, however.)

  • This is real post based upon a real TPUSA news release

  • We already knew that a UFC fight will occur on the White House lawn, but now we have an "artist's rendition" of what it will look like.

  • That's a pretty low flyover a Notre Dame on Saturday. Video

  • Bill Belichick, with his girlfriend, before being beaten by UCF by a score of 34-9.
  • Not much press for the trial of a would-be assassin of Trump which is entering its second week this morning.  The defendant is representing himself.

It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

That was a weird statement by the Sheriff.

  • And another. "The pilots were on a routine training flight when the aircraft, an MH-60 Black Hawk assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, went down near Summit Lake in a rural area in Western Washington near the Joint Base Lewis-McChord."

  • More news out of Washington state for those following this sad case.

  • When I first saw these headlines, I thought the guy must have been thrown from the ride. Nope. He was found to be deceased in his seat after the ride was over. So did he just simply die while he just happened to be on the ride? Not according to the medical examiner.  (Side note: Faithful readers know that I'm extremely skeptical of medical examiners.)

  • If this happens, we've reached a new level of "It's Over": "President Donald Trump is expected to fire the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia after his office was unable to find incriminating evidence of mortgage fraud against New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to sources."

  • The pitchfork crowd is on a roll this week.

  • Couple of things I meant to post yesterday:
    • So we are now joking about the U.S. murdering people in boats thousands of miles away, and, even worse, that it's no big deal if innocent people are accidentally targeted?

    • Ok, let's tap the brakes a little bit.

  • If you want to know where we are headed, look at this post by Larry Brock Jr. who is running in the Republican primary against incumbent Jared Patterson for a Texas House seat based in North Texas.

    • Brock, by the way, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for his conduct on January 6th. Here he is with Wise County representative Andy Hopper:

  • This does seem big.  It translates what the other person is saying in real time and, as a bonus, will create a transcript of your conversation for later review.

  • Random post last night from the popular Texas history Twitter account:

  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 77 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

This was a rare Trophy Club raid which ultimately resulted in a federal prison sentence for the son of a "Southlake pastor."

  • After pressure from Trump's government, ABC pulled a comedian -- a comedian! -- off the air.  . (Here's the video clip that prompted Trump's government's wrath. It's not about Charlie Kirk. It's about criticizing Trump.) We are in a five alarm fire of authoritarianism, and we all all just going to sit around and watch it burn

    • Just hours earlier, the FCC chief, while he was a guest on a far right wing podcast, threatened to come after ABC because of Kimmel's jokes calling them "sick" and "depraved":

    • Trump managed to post at 1:00 o'clock in the morning from England about ABC's action, and he revealed who is next on his hit list:

    • It's not just the actual retribution (like law firms and universities bending the knee to Trump or CBS settling the baseless 60 Minutes lawsuit), but its also about the fear of reprisal. For example, what's Saturday Night Live and NBC thinking right now about their upcoming season? Do they dare joke about Trump?
    • It's over, folks.
  • Related: What's going on here?
    • And he was there:

    • Also there was Sam Altman, the head of ChatGPT; Satya Nadella, the top dog at Microsoft: and Tim Cook, the head of Apple.  Welcome to the Oligarchy.

  • Crazy criminal legal news relevant to nearby Cooke County in particular and all of us in general:
    • In April, we had the shocking story that a visiting judge found that the past Cooke County D.A. (who now was the county's only district judge) had withheld evidence while the prosecutor in the capital murder case of Michael Newberry. A new trial was ordered.  Importantly, the current DA supported the decision.

    • Yesterday, however. the Court of Criminal Appeals said, "Not so fast my friends." This is the entire decision as they refused to go along with a new trial which means Newberry will remain in prison:
  • Gift link.

  • The shooter was in a cornfield. Story

  • The grift never ends. Gift link

  • Oddest photo from Windsor castle:

  • I wouldn't call that "wrangled" or "caught."  She shot it dead. (But it was legal and actually occurred south of Houston.)
