Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

The first Republican presidential debate would be this week with the top 10, according to the polls, being invited to attend.

  • Democrats on the run to stop Trump's order for Texas to redraw its congressional map in order to gain five Republican seats.
    • Kind of important.

    • Leaving town to avoid a quorum has been a tactic forever.  Twelve Senators did it in 2019 and were nicknamed The Killer Bees.

  • "He got weed!"

  • Amazingly, a brief thunderstorm that rolled through the metroplex included a burst of wind at DFW airport that set a record.

  • We are the dumbest country.

  • It's over. For the "it can't happen here" crowd, it’s happening here. Right now, To us. And this is just the beginning.  And this is just the beginning.

  • When Trump said the he was going to bring down prescription drug prices by "1,500%" a couple of weeks ago, I thought it was bad.  But we've now learned there is no one around him which will correct him because he said the same thing again last weekend in two different interviews.

  • The New York tabloid opens up shop in California.

  • If anyone takes offense to the appearance of Sydney Sweeney in a jeans ad, let me introduce you to Anna Nicole Smith.

  • Pencil in the Evil Empire as the National Champions.  They are ranked #1 in the Coaches' Poll released yesterday.

  • Extremely nerdy criminal law legal stuff: Last week, a Texas appellate court was faced with these questions when presented with the case of a bicyclist who was detained for driving on the wrong side of the road, and then an open container of alcohol in the bicycle's drink holder was observed: Does Texas' open container law include bicycles under the statute's broad definition of "motor vehicle"? And, if so, did the officer then have probable cause to search the rest of the bicycle for other open containers under the "automobile exception"? And, if so, does the right to that search extend to the backpack the cyclist was wearing where drugs were ultimately found? I love it.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

On the 30th anniversary of the plane crash at DFW that killed 137 people, I posted this graphic. One victim, William Mayberry, 28,  died as he was driving his car on 114.

  • Yesterday morning.

  • Saturday:

  • Spotted in Bridgeport: A man committed to his bit.  That license plate is QAnon related where he has a shortened the slogan of "Where we go one, we go all."

  • A house in Colleyville caught fire due to a lightning strike yesterday.

  • Four people were killed in a Montana bar at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, and the suspect is still on the run.

  • The Texas House is poised to changed the congressional map to award five seats to Republicans, the Democrats fled the state yesterday in order to prevent a vote from happening today, and Abbott threatened to kick them out of office for doing so.

  • If Trump wanted the Epstein Files out of the news, he's doing a horrible job of it. Why in the world did they do this?

    • But she may find a friend at her new home.

  • This should be at the top of headlines for weeks. If government officials don't tell Trump what he wants to hear, he will fire them.  It's more Orwellian than 1984, it's straight out of the Soviet Union, and it is an earthquake for democracy.  "I believe the numbers were phony," Trump said. It's over.

  • This is just a test balloon.  Political arrests are coming. It's over.

  • One the main persons responsible for Fox News having to pay $787 million for lying about the election results and Dominion voting machines is now a U.S. Attorney.

  • The stage is being set for election results which Trump doesn't like to be declared invalid in the future.

  • The way he says it is even creepier than it reads. Video.

  • The topless Texas D.A. went hard this weekend as she smoked a joint live on a TikTok video to protest Texas' marijuana laws, both existing and proposed.

  • That Northwest High School runner broke the Under 18 world record yesterday in the 800 meters with a time of  1:42.27.  Video.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons demanded a trade. First, this will never happen. Secondly, he will be on the field for the first game of the season for the simple reason that he is set to be paid this year - his option year - more than he has in his first four years combined. :

  • A new saying which is being overused: "Two things can be true at the same time."

It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

So you may have forgotten what great sin Tom Brady was found to have committed: He was suspended for four games because he "was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of [the ball boys] involving the release of air from Patriots game balls.”

  • I'm seeing seven people arrested in Wise County overnight for solicitation of prostitution.
  • A legislative hearing was held in Kerrville yesterday about the flooding early last month, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick showed up to bad mouth the local County Judge. (Side note: I would like to be able to look at that map on the wall.)

  • A horrible crash near Austin last Friday, which we are just now hearing about, claimed the lives of five women from Dallas.  "DPS says a Ram truck pulling a livestock trailer crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Chevy Malibu and a Mercedes SUV traveling behind it. All five victims were in the Mercedes SUV as it flipped and caught fire."

    • The lady in the middle of the photo below, Brianna Valadez, was one of the victims, and the other four may be the other four victims. Fox 4 News implied that, but never expressly said it. (They only said the photo was taken from an online slideshow posted by Valadez's employer.)

  • The Arkansas alleged killer of the couple hiking with their children looks a little different now compared to when he was a teacher in Flower Mound.

  • All cat lives matter.

  • And another complete highway shutdown this morning. Told ya.

  • It's Orwellian. It's officially here. "The change came about as part of a content review that the Smithsonian agreed to undertake following pressure from the White House to remove an art museum director."

  • Trump's destruction of the Rose Garden is almost complete.

    • And now he's going to remodel the South Wing of the White House.

  • Epstein update:

  • Is it possible that every network and social media outlet is talking about a Sydney Sweeney "controversy" because it's a reason to show Sydney Sweeney?

  • How is this a news story? It has to be a paid ad tricked up as news.

  • Man, that topless Texas D.A. is still going strong:

  • Random box score from last night.

  • Not a whole lot of legal significance, but yesterday evening a court of appeals out of Houston affirmed a Wise County criminal conviction and 55 year sentence.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 27 days.
