Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

Garth Brooks announced seven concerts at the AAC with the twist being back-to-back shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • One of the three missing bodies near Kerrville was recovered yesterday. Still missing are "one adult male and a little girl from Camp Mystic."

  • Dan Patrick vs. Greg Abbott on THC: The Texas Senate's new proposal on THC in the current special session, SB 5, is a complete ban.  But the headlines that Gov. Abbott wants "stiff regulations" are also misleading. All he was trying to say yesterday was that he basically supports the current law which has a 0.3% delta-9 THC limit established by the federal 2018 Farm Bill. (But he even screwed that up by saying "3 milligrams" instead of 0.3%.)

  • Stay with me here . . .
    • Alina Habba, Trump's personal lawyer who had no criminal or prosecutorial experience, was appointed four months ago as interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. But without confirmation by the U.S. Senate, her term expires by law after 120 days.  After that, once again by law, she only can remain in that position if the federal judges in New Jersey approve her. Yesterday, they refused to do so and appointed someone else in the Justice Department instead. (Gift article)

    • Here's the statute giving the judges the authority. It's pretty clear.  Congress allows the federal judges to have that power over unconfirmed U.S. Attorneys.

    • But what did Trump do in response to Habba being rejected? Through AG Pam Bondi, he fired the person the federal judges appointed and called the judges "rogue."

    • And this sentence really stood out out to me. We are on the verge of the judiciary being neutered. It's over.

  • Epstein News:
    • Trump claimed yesterday he had no idea that the Deputy Attorney General (also his personal lawyer) planned to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell. Video.

    • Speaker of the House Mike Johnson dismissed the House for summer vacation because they were about to be forced to take a vote on releasing the Epstein files.

    • Trump is playing all the hits to try and divert attention.
  • Ozzy Osbourne has died.  He made news in 1982 for "urinating on the Alamo."  In reality, however, he didn't do that, but instead relieved himself on a statue on the grounds -- not that that is much better.

  • Good lord. Video.

  • The Business Second™. Doesn't that sound a little cheap for a full city block with no height restrictions?
  • The Second Business Second™. Another bidder has shown up with a higher offer for the Dallas Morning News.  But this one sounds even worse than the first one: "Alden, a hedge fund firm based in New York that owns MNG, has attracted controversy for focusing on cost-cutting at the newspapers it owns."

  • Random Meme Thought: Wait, this girl . . .

  • My last bullet point should always just be "Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

It happened in the town of Broken Arrow in a residential neighborhood (where a park now sits in its place). The two teens were given life sentences.

  • The Musk Curse strikes the metroplex.

  • Get ready. More headlines like this are coming.

  • This re-districting effort really is shameful.

  • Epstein Developments: The Justice Department announced this morning it intends to sit down with Ghislaine Maxell to find out what she knows.

    • Todd Blanche certainly knows how to find Maxwell's lawyer, David Markus. He was a guest on Markus' podcast.

    • Update: They have already been in contact. From moments ago:

  • Epstein Developments #2: Republican Thomas Massie keeps wanting the files released.

    • Trump responded like a not-innocent man:

  • Epstein Developments #3: In trying to distract from the Epstein files yesterday, Trump tweeted about everything under the sun.  And then he went one step further by releasing the MLK Jr. files.

    • Here was King's daughter's response:

  • From the official White House account. Totally normal.

  • Hunter Biden decided to give an interview and, man, that guy can drop a string of F Bombs like nobody's business.

  • Jerry calling Micah Parsons by the name of "Michael Parson" is peak Jerry. Video.

  • Malcolm-Jamal Warner died on Sunday by drowning in Costa Rica. He was actually at the Cocles Beach area by Puerto Viejo which is where I went 15 years ago.  I wrote this in a bullet point on 1/7/2010: "I was in the strongest ocean current ever this morning. Just trying to stand in one place was impossible."

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

The Dallas Morning News took a hard look at how Bridgeport had won the high school basketball state championship earlier in the year.

  • So we were told 97 were missing in the Texas Hill Country floods, but now the number is just 3 instead?  Seems like this was (or should have been) figured out a lot sooner than Saturday afternoon when they did the press release.

  • The death count is up to 93.  I'll never understand why we just turn a blind eye to Israel's infliction of atrocities in Gaza.

  • Maybe it is just me, but I'm seeing more and more wrecks out there. People drive like nuts.

  • The brother of the late Pat Tillman, who gave the unhinged speech at his brother's funeral in 2001, has found himself in a bit of trouble

  • This felt a lot more dangerous than Beyonce's flying car failure the other day. Video,

  • We've been beaten down with the Coldplay/Affair scandal, but I had no idea the screen at the concert was this big and prominent.

  • A grand jury got away from a prosecutor on this one.

  • This is right out of a Final Destination movie.

  • Yesterday, Trump tweeted on his own platform (1) a video of a girl in a bikini catching a snake, (2) an AI generated video of Obama being arrested, (3) a Brady Bunch like image of fake book-in photos of political opponents, and (4) that the Washington Commanders should change their name back to the Washington Redskins. The Mad King is not well.

  • Trump followed through on his threat to sue the Wall Street JournalHe'll lose, but Trump doesn't care. This is all performative to scare any media outlet with less resources to be careful what they say about the Fuhrer.

    • Also, he filed the case in federal court in Florida but this time his case was assigned to a judge other than his fanboy Aileen Cannon.
  • And this case went to arbitration instead of a jury.

  • Oh, good grief

  • The Texas legislature meets in a 30 day special session beginning today. At the direction of Trump, they will try to redraw Congressional districting lines in order to try and and flip five districts from Democrat to Republican.  Jacksboro's David Spiller in on that committee
