Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




For the Final Four held at Jerry World, Bruce Springsteen played outdoors at the site of the old Reunion Arena in Dallas. And #7 seed UConn won the National Championship over #8 seed Kentucky. 

  • I was very interested in the eclipse, but I have to admit that I completely underestimated what an emotional experience it would be the moment it went full.  I absolutely loved it -- so much so that I think I'm putting it in my top ten moments of all time, and I never dreamed I'd say that. And I cannot explain why.

    • My small mind is still amazed at how we can predict, up to the second, when an eclipse will take place. The Earth is rotating, the moon is moving, and the sun is just out there, yet some guys with a slide rule can predict it all. 
  • The Aggies are considering bringing the bonfire back. 


  • Remember this? I was skeptical of the actual injuries by the residents at the time but, in the end, the only ones who will probably profit are the lawyers. 


  • Jennifer Crumbley and her husband, "who were convicted of involuntary manslaughter for failing to prevent their teenage son from killing four fellow students in the worst school shooting in Michigan’s history," will be sentenced today by a judge. 

  • "Eric Smith was at home in South Hill, Washington, when a Ring notification told him someone was going through his truck parked outside." He ran out to confront them and almost died. It's not worth it. Video.

  • Local law enforcement welcome the competition for jobs this representative out of Irving is promoting?

    • Side note: I'm still wondering why a former staffer went to her home in 2021 and shot himself outside of her home.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




The time Jerry Jones' grandson (aka Spaudling) had a selfie made with Taylor Swift. 

  • It's Eclipse Day!



    • You heathens out there better listen up! MTG told me so. 

    • Marble Falls, Texas.

    • Dallas PD is invoking "rolling road closures" around downtown during the eclipse and, for the life of me, I don't understand why. "The department says they want drivers to make sure to pay attention to the roads, not the sky, during the eclipse."

  • A Denver to Houston flight had a bit of trouble taking off yesterday morning-- which it did but immediately returned for an emergency landing. Video of the engine cover disintegrating.


  • A small earthquake hit New York on Friday morning, and the New York Post did not disappoint. 

  • If you like criminal trials, there seems to be an interesting one going on in Wisconsin. A guy gets taunted on a river by a group of teenagers and ends up stabbing one of them. The video was played in court last week. Video.
     



  • Trump actually followed through this morning on his promise for an announcement on abortion. Kind of. But in his video he said that “all legal scholars, both sides, wanted and in fact demanded Roe v. Wade be ended.” Sheesh.

  • I'm surprised he didn't say Jesus would be officially endorsing him on that day.

  • Don't be dumb.  The draft is three weeks away and he is/was projected to be a first or second round pick.

  • The Liberally Lean Tournament rewarded people for upset picks with once exception: It awarded mega points if you correctly predicted the National Champion. We've got a barn burner to declare a champion. 




  • Eclipse: Wise County isn't in the "path of totality" but you won't know it because we will still get a 99% blockage of the sun. (For comparison,  Lubbock is 89% and Abilene is 97%. Denver is 65%.)

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • "Let me hold this press conference to tell everyone my client committed a crime."

  • We've got a real life Oceans 11 on our hands. 


  • My strong belief in the Butterfly Effect was on display in the last 48 hours as two cars were in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time. One in Fort Lauderdale where a part of a crane came crashing down on it, and the other a boulder smashing a car (video) during an earthquake. 


  • It seems that most dangerous place to be in a commercial airliner is when you are near the airport. The amount of near collisions on takeoffs and landings are always in the news. This one involved almost clipping the tower. 


  • Job numbers just released. The good news continues. The U.S. unemployment rate has now been below 4% for 26 straight months, the longest streak since the late 1960s.  
  • Last Friday there was a standoff between a robbery suspect and Colleyville police. The guy ended up shooting himself and later dying at the hospital. It turns out that it was the son of former NFL player and Baylor great Randle Ervin.

  • Judge Cannon in Trump's classified documents case in Florida denied (pdf) his motion to dismiss where he claimed the Presidential Records Act provided him protection.  But the oddest part of the ruling is that she didn't foreclose Trump using that defense at trial and maybe even instructing the jury of the defense.  That makes it awkward for both sides. It's like going into a murder case and neither side knows whether the jury will be able to consider self-defense. That makes it tough.



  • If I'm running the Biden campaign, I jump all over Trump's calling the January 6th Insurrectionists "hostages" and promising to pardon them.  I can't get over that. And I think the average guy out there will find that repulsive.  And other than those which have already been convicted, the only remaining people still incarcerated number fifteen -- all accused of doing horrible things on that day. 

    • Speaking of January 6th, they just keep coming. A man from Cedar Hill was arrested this week.  (I'm still waiting on Wise County to be represented.)


  • Someone isn't reading the room very well in Florida. It wouldn't be the first time for the guy.

  • Just a Texas Supreme Court judge failing to understand the concept of a detached and neutral magistrate. Video. What a nut.  This is the same guy who said that he had been arrested 37 times for protesting at abortion clinics.

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 4 years and 284 days.
