Random Monday Morning Thoughts

Still one of the most shocking local celebrity deaths ever

  • But we had a death closer to home. Former Wise County deputy David Bosecker was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance as a deputy in Eastland County. Awful.

  • Probably not many of you are following the trial of the Mansfield kid who was just convicted for Attempted Capital Murder in Tarrant County, but here's an under-reportd tidbit.  Self-defense (which the judge didn't allow the jury to consider) was the the defense's trial strategy because of a fight the defendant and the victim got into before the shooting. But look at this:

  • Texas will lose this. It will be a fitting end to a dumb idea.

  • The bird symbol has suddenly disappeared from Twitter and replaced with an "X."  The main value of Twitter was it name and symbol recognition. And now Elon Musk as destroyed that, too.

    • He's had a weird obsession with X. He wanted to rebrand PayPal to "X" before they kicked him out.

  • Trouble in Aggieland.

  • This went down late Friday. The Supreme Court told Alabama legislature in a big ruling on June 7th that they had to redraw their gerrymandered lines. In response, Alabama just said no.  It's 1960s George Wallace all over again.

  • Here's a video of a dog released on an unarmed black guy in Ohio with his hands up while a fellow trooper is yelling "Don't release the dog."

  • I almost find it bizarre that every single person who went to see either movie just raved about how great it was. Not even the slightest bit of criticism by anyone.

    • Well, the above doesn't apply to the Ultra-MAGA Extremists who complain about it being "woke" (ugh.) These people are not well. (Yes, this is real.)

  • Weird stuff falling out of the sky this weekend:
  • The restoration of the Wise County Courthouse has it's own Facebook page with video updates that are pretty cool.  restoration

It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

A lady died while riding the Texas Giant at Six Flags in Arlington.

  • That's really a funny headline. "I can't make it to my ethics violation hearing because I'm being impeached."

  • This would seem to be the equivalent of Saudi Arabia once discovering it was sitting on oil.

  • Notable death overnight: Tony Bennett

    • Less noticeable death: The mother from Sixteen Candles.

  • Sheesh.

  • Non-Ticket fans probably don't understand this, but the earthquake of Cumulus and a mid-day show failing to come to a contract agreement is sending shock waves throughout its listener base. And I'm right there with them. I love these guys. They released a video yesterday which is hard to watch for those like me. (Dan has been with the station for 24 years. Jake started as an intern -- and now has a couple of tiny kids at home.)

  • Interesting out-of-county sponsor.

  • These are not serious people. I'll never understand how the "party of small government" lost its way.

  • Random recent population and other great data from Census Bureau about Wise County here

  • Jerry has to be a giddy. A franchise which hasn't been able to fill its stadium for years sells for over $6 billion.

  • Legal nerdy stuff: If you care about a Wise County case concerning divorce and separate property (real estate and acquired before the marriage but improvements made after the marriage),  there was an appellate opinion released out of Fort Worth yesterday about it.
  • Two headlines I've seen in the last 24 hours with related topics.
    • #1

    • #2

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 4 years and 17 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

Johnny Football mania ratcheted up as he was going into his final year at Aggieland.

  • Fighting a grass fire in this heat would be a beating. Kudos to those guys.

    • The Denton Record Chronicle looked at the bright side.

  • Further south and a couple of hours later, a fire got near the sea of homes on Bonds Ranch Road off of 287 going into Fort Worth. It was accidentally started by a crew laying fiberoptic lines (surprise!).

  • I'm not sure what was worse in this case being tried in Tarrant County: (1) The defense relying upon self-defense throughout the trial only to learn yesterday the jury won't be able to consider it, or (2) the judge showing absolute disregard and lack of respect for the jury by making them come in and sit in the jury room all day while he and the lawyers worked on the jury charge. He sent them home at 5:00 p.m. after they did nothing all day. Incredible. That would never happen in Wise County.

  • And it is probably very, very good at it.

  • Objections are heating up over the proposed power line in south Wise County -- there's an article today about it in the Star-Telegram.  Here's a color map of it below. For reference, I put an arrow on the far right of the intersection of 287/114 in Rhome. The red circle is the Speedway. The yellow are the different proposed routes they will chose from. Click to enlarge.

  • In a hearing yesterday about Hunter Biden's laptop (sheesh), the Jewish Space Laser QAnon Congresswoman decided to show nude photos of Hunter. There is no bottom.

  • This is real.  Ted Cruz is now just a cartoon.

  • In his third show replacing Tucker Carlson, Jesse Watters went after his target demographic last night by bring in . . . Pat Boone.

  • I want to know more before I pass judgment, but I'm not interested enough to read the whole article.

  • He gets no sympathy from me. He's not on a rookie deal and voluntarily signed his contact. He has two years left on his six-year, $84 million contract extension.

  • Messenger: Above the Fold
