Random Tuesday Morning Thoughs


  • Payten Tynsky, 16, of Decatur High was killed in a car wreck yesterday. Upon learning of the news, I suddenly felt stupid for my grief over losing Family Pup #2. I cannot fathom the pain of losing a child. And it reminds you that tomorrow is no guarantee. 
  • I was disturbed by the injuries I saw in college football this weekend. And the NFL is worse. Everyone needs to be aware that Cowboys TE Rico Gathers has been put on Injured Reserve due to a concussion. 
  • I finally watched Jackie starring Natalie Portman. It was fantastic. She was a nominee for an Academy Award for her role, and I'm not sure she shouldn't have won it. 
  • I also ended up watching Hell or High Water again. It needs to be a training film for every young cop. Focus on the old Texas Ranger. And by that I mean, his attitude and how he treats the public. 
  • I've said this before but I'll say it again, every employer needs to go online and try to figure out if you have an employee who is a self-proclaimed "Proud Boy." And it you are a "Proud Boy", prove it by telling your employer.
  • It looks like the Trump Administration is taking steps to repeal DACA and end the protection for the Dreamers. I'll pay any reporter $100 to ask Trump during a press conference what "DACA" stands for.
  • There are many, many "illegals" who came forward under DACA because our government promised them protection. Now the United States will go back on its word. 
  • He is Darth Vadar. 
  • Football thought from high school to college: Does no one care about special teams? 
  • I somehow managed to stumble on the Longhorn Network and saw Tom Herman's press conference yesterday. He looked horrible. He sounded horrible. He made odd statements and paused for many seconds before answering questions. I'm worried about the guy. And I've got nothing against him. 
  • It looks like we've got a fight for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, in Wise County. 
  • Mrs. LL won an electric guitar in a raffle. I need your thoughts and prayers.

That Aggie Loss Was Amazing





 From a sheer logistical standpoint it should not have been possible. Literally, there wasn’t enough time: The Aggies kicked a field goal to extend their lead to 44-10 with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter. That left UCLA with 19 minutes of game time to make up a five-score deficit.

 Do the math on that. In other words, from that point on the Bruins’ only chance was to score a touchdown every 3 minutes, 48 seconds, including the time that the ball belonged to A&M. Offensively, the Aggies didn’t commit any turnovers down the stretch (or at any point in the game) and continued to earn first downs.

 The Bruins didn’t attempt any sort of onside kick, double pass, hook-and-lateral, or Hail Mary. They didn’t benefit from a big punt or kickoff return, and started every possession in their own territory — the soon-to-be-legendary scoring drives in the third and fourth quarters covered 75, 85, 96, 74, and 66 yards, respectively. Random Monday Morning Thoughts


  • It's Labor Day and once again I prove I'm the hardest working man in show business. 
  • I was in charge of school drop off and pick up last week. I felt like Michael Keaton in Mr. Mom every single time. It's so confusing. 
  • Hey, I dog Game Wardens and DPS Troopers all the time, but I'll give them props for wrangling this 12 foot alligator in South Texas during the flooding. There's no way I'm doing that.
  • Price gouging is a weird concept. Everyone hates it as do I, but isn't it the ultimate Supply and Demand concept? 
  • Robert Jeffress leading a prayer over Trump may be the sign that the end is near. 

  • A (an?) SMU football commit dies in his sleep. 
  • It's Labor Day. Remember, you can't wear White Supremacy beginning tomorrow. 
  • This is at least the third time he has done this.
  • Fox 4's Clarice Tinsley on Friday pronounced the town of Vidor as "VEE-door". Seriously, how do you live in Texas for that long and make that mistake?
  • I stumbled on a Star Trek movie this weekend which I had seen before but had no memory that Kim Cattrall, of Sex and the City fame, was in it. 
  • I flipped over to ESPN on Friday night to see if there was a college football game on but instead saw this from the USA/Costa Rica soccer game. (USA lost, by the way. # MAGA)
  • I've followed former Baylor wide receiver K.D. Cannon since he left school early after being a tremendous talent but a little bit of a nutcase. He didn't get drafted. The 49ers then signed him as a free agent and paid $45,000 only to be let go about a week later. The Jets then signed him but cut him after two months, and then he was signed by the Rams. They let him go this weekend. 
  • Someone explain this to me: It was announced this weekend that girl from Bedford who was found dead in a landfill in Arlington was killed with a hammer, allegedly by a "friend." So how on God's green earth can the police say all of this time, "The public is not in danger"? The friend was taken into custody. 
  • Sports note under the radar this weekend: I didn't know NFL teams could not trade a draft pick for cash. So what did the Cleveland Browns do over the off season? They acquired a second round pick from Houston and took on Brock Osweiler and his contract with no intent of keeping him on the team. They cut him on Saturday. The deal cost them $16 million which we now know is the value of a second round pick -- that's all they wanted. (And to put it in perspective as to how NFL players gets screwed, the Cowboys will pay their second round pick $4.2 million over four years assuming they don't cut him.) 
  • How much would you have bet in Vegas if you had been told beforehand the Longhorns would have a punt return for a TD, an interception return for a TD, and a blocked field goal return for a TD against Maryland? I would have bet the house.They lost.
  • But that loss wasn't as bad as Baylor losing to Liberty or the Aggies blowing a 34 point third quarter lead against UCLA. It's the geographical triangle of Sports Pain. (And check out the plaintiff's lawyer and Aggie board of regents member rant basically calling for Sumlin's head of a figurative stake.)
  • "I hear the Coast Guard saved ... almost 11,000 people by going into winds the media would not go into." - Donald Trump over the weekend (proving, once again, he is a moron.)
  • The Messenger's high school football special section had a "Game of Throws" theme. Fox 4 sports promoted a segment last night named, suspiciously, "Game of Throws."

This Should Horrify You

By all accounts, the head nurse at the University of Utah Hospital’s burn unit was professional and restrained when she told a Salt Lake City police detective he wasn’t allowed to draw blood from a badly injured patient.

The detective didn’t have a warrant, first off. And the patient wasn’t conscious, so he couldn’t give consent. Without that, the detective was barred from collecting blood samples — not just by hospital policy, but by basic constitutional law.

And you guys wonder why I chose to do the job I'm doing. Bad cops, which are few and far between, will always get exposed so long as there is someone to grade their papers. Video is helping that cause. If he isn't fired by dawn, something is wrong.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts



  • I'm trying to get back to normal, but it has been a heck of 48 hours. When you have a completely healthy family pup get sick and die within 48 hours, it will rock your world. I didn't know that there were around the clock vet clinics, complete with ICU, but I found out they exist. But it didn't help.
  • And when you tell the family, "I'll bury her," it sounds like a brave and noble statement. Then you have to do it and end up realizing how hard it actually is. 
  • The footage of VP Mike Pence and Gov. Greg Abbott removing debris in South Texas yesterday should disgust you. It's a photo op that lasted a few seconds. They are The Swamp.
  • And he thinks this will endear him to the public. Sadly, it probably will. 
  • Lt. Greg Abbott (oh, the irony) to a passenger in a car in Georgia: "We only kill black people." It was certainly a joke, but he was not in a position to joke. 
  • On Wednesday, Mrs. LL contacted me and asked, "Have you heard anything about a gas shortage? One of my co-workers just left to get gas because she thinks there will be." My response was, "No, I'll check but if people think there is a gas shortage, there will be a gas shortage."
  • Texas!

  • Looking at the Messenger's special section on Wise County high school football (produced by Richard Greene), this line jumped out at me regarding Bridgeport's starting quarterback who is a sophomore: "He threw one pass last year as a freshman and ran the ball four times for 11 yards." Hey, the kid might end up being great, but he probably will face a huge learning curve. 
  • "Female deputy DA found bloody, beaten after gang attack in California."
  • He's got a lot of Sarah Palin, who also quit, in him: 
  • I'm not a criminal mastermind, but I don't think was a well thought out plan. " A witness told FOX 4 the car drove into the store at a high rate of speed and made it all the way to the electronics section in the back. Then the driver reversed."
  • Everyone went nuts over this political cartoon (below). It's actually a modification of a joke which I heard from the pulpit at the First Baptist in Bridgeport when I was a teenager. Here it is on a Christian website.
  • (I haven't even looked at pending comments since yesterday. I'll do it now.) Edit: I didn't look at them because I believed there would be a few hateful ones thrown in. Now looking at them, I'm overwhelmed by your compassion. Thank you.

  • There will be none. Family Pup #2, Sugar, didn't have a toothache, she had pneumonia. It escalated very quickly. And despite everyone's best efforts, she passed away in the middle of the night.

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts



  • A federal judge has dismissed Sarah Palin's lawsuit against the New York Times. If you don't understand "reckless disregard for the truth" vs. "negligence" in the area of libel, you don't need to be commenting on it.
  • I can't think of anything more painful than Larry The Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy together. They call the show the "Backyard Barbecue." This news is the only good thing that Harvey has brought to the State of Texas. (Although it's hard to understand how Hurricane Harvey has anything to do with this.)
  • Justice Don Willett, the "aww shucks" tweeting Texas Supreme Court judge, thought it would be a good idea to do "water comedy" late yesterday as Texas was suffering from disasterous flooding at that very moment. He is up for election next year.  
  • In other parts of Texas at the same time: 

  • I've never been to a Texas high school volleyball game but have seen some videos. The level of talent and excitement seems really cool. (Although I can never get use to the term "kills" when describing scores.)
  • The First Lady did in fact remove her six inch stilettos before arriving in Texas. But she did put on a "FLOTUS" hat. Read that term out loud. Think about why they were visiting. 
  • The photo below is of a new generation Bentley. I'll swear that Mrs. LL and I saw a Rolls Royce on 114 right outside of Trophy Club that looked just like it. It caught her attention as she said, "That's a cool car!" (She never mentions cars.)
  • We had a doggie emergency in the house last night. Family Pup #2 start shaking and panting uncontrollably and would not stop. Mrs. LL took her to the vet, and he diagnosed it as her teeth were decaying, causing pain, and she was going into panic attacks. This will cost me to fix it. I'll pay it. 
  • I appreciate anyone who donates to great causes (like Harvey relief). I don't appreciate people bragging about it. When you pray, you go into your closet and pray alone. 
  • I get complaints that Liberally Lean isn't as "fun" or "light hearted" as it used to be. Watching Idiocracy in this country unfold right before your eyes will do that to you.

  • There will be a lot of Texans stunned to learn that the basic Texas Homeowners Insurance Policy does not cover natural flooding. And that also means millions (?) of people are facing financial ruin -- and mortgage holders as well. 
  • This is a Fox 4 News reporter so I assume the photo is legit:
  • Our Texas leaders (Abbott, Patrick, Paxton) sure do talk a lot about Texas independence, but when we face a disaster they immediately cry to the federal government for help.
  • Trump is on his way to Texas per this photo this morning. Look at the shoes the First Lady decided to wear to a disaster zone. I'm guessing she is not planning on stepping on wet soil. 
  • I did not know the NRA had a Concealed Carry Fashion Show. 
  • This new opinion from the 10th Circuit starts off bluntly: 
  • Police access to surplus military gear, a ban put in by President Obama, has been lifted by Trump. "WASHINGTON — Police departments will now have access to military surplus equipment typically used in warfare, including grenade launchers, armored vehicles and bayonets." Uh, bayonets? 
  • I accidentally deleted three comments yesterday. One on Joel Olsteen, one on the shark photo, and one on I can't remember.
  • Speaking of Olsteen, that fraud took it in the shorts yesterday like nobody's business. I hope his Houston home is OK. (Are these photos real?)
  • Just when you thought Trump couldn't be dumber, he used this as an explanation why he announced the pardon of Sheriff Joe on Friday evening: “Actually in the middle of a hurricane, even though it was a Friday evening,  I assumed the ratings would be far higher than they would be normally.”
