- A federal judge has dismissed Sarah Palin's lawsuit against the New York Times. If you don't understand "reckless disregard for the truth" vs. "negligence" in the area of libel, you don't need to be commenting on it.
- I can't think of anything more painful than Larry The Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy together. They call the show the "Backyard Barbecue." This news is the only good thing that Harvey has brought to the State of Texas. (Although it's hard to understand how Hurricane Harvey has anything to do with this.)
- Justice Don Willett, the "aww shucks" tweeting Texas Supreme Court judge, thought it would be a good idea to do "water comedy" late yesterday as Texas was suffering from disasterous flooding at that very moment. He is up for election next year.
- In other parts of Texas at the same time:
- I've never been to a Texas high school volleyball game but have seen some videos. The level of talent and excitement seems really cool. (Although I can never get use to the term "kills" when describing scores.)
- The First Lady did in fact remove her six inch stilettos before arriving in Texas. But she did put on a "FLOTUS" hat. Read that term out loud. Think about why they were visiting.
- The photo below is of a new generation Bentley. I'll swear that Mrs. LL and I saw a Rolls Royce on 114 right outside of Trophy Club that looked just like it. It caught her attention as she said, "That's a cool car!" (She never mentions cars.)
- We had a doggie emergency in the house last night. Family Pup #2 start shaking and panting uncontrollably and would not stop. Mrs. LL took her to the vet, and he diagnosed it as her teeth were decaying, causing pain, and she was going into panic attacks. This will cost me to fix it. I'll pay it.
- I appreciate anyone who donates to great causes (like Harvey relief). I don't appreciate people bragging about it. When you pray, you go into your closet and pray alone.
- I get complaints that Liberally Lean isn't as "fun" or "light hearted" as it used to be. Watching Idiocracy in this country unfold right before your eyes will do that to you.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts
- There will be a lot of Texans stunned to learn that the basic Texas Homeowners Insurance Policy does not cover natural flooding. And that also means millions (?) of people are facing financial ruin -- and mortgage holders as well.
- This is a Fox 4 News reporter so I assume the photo is legit:
- Our Texas leaders (Abbott, Patrick, Paxton) sure do talk a lot about Texas independence, but when we face a disaster they immediately cry to the federal government for help.
- Trump is on his way to Texas per this photo this morning. Look at the shoes the First Lady decided to wear to a disaster zone. I'm guessing she is not planning on stepping on wet soil.
- I did not know the NRA had a Concealed Carry Fashion Show.
- This new opinion from the 10th Circuit starts off bluntly:
- Police access to surplus military gear, a ban put in by President Obama, has been lifted by Trump. "WASHINGTON — Police departments will now have access to military surplus equipment typically used in warfare, including grenade launchers, armored vehicles and bayonets." Uh, bayonets?
- I accidentally deleted three comments yesterday. One on Joel Olsteen, one on the shark photo, and one on I can't remember.
- Speaking of Olsteen, that fraud took it in the shorts yesterday like nobody's business. I hope his Houston home is OK. (Are these photos real?)
- Just when you thought Trump couldn't be dumber, he used this as an explanation why he announced the pardon of Sheriff Joe on Friday evening: “Actually in the middle of a hurricane, even though it was a Friday evening, I assumed the ratings would be far higher than they would be normally.”

Random Monday Morning Thoughts
- Let me state the obvious: The Houston flooding is insane. And it is only going to get worse.
- And my bullet point from Friday now almost looks like an understatement:
- The Houston mayor, despite 911 being overloaded, told the public not to use social media for emergency requests because the didn't have the manpower. Why not? You saw this coming.
- But to come to his defense on another subject, why is he being dogged for not ordering a "mandatory evacuation." With a city of that many million people, you couldn't do that if you wanted to. What are the police going to do? Arrest a two million people who don't? And there are a ton of people who don't have the money to go anywhere.
- I heard that you can't designate where a donation to Red Cross will go. Is that true? That would be odd especially since they want you to donate to them by texting "Harvey".
- Mrs. LL and I went to Winstar Casino this weekend. I hadn't been up there for over a decade. When did that place turn into Vegas? That place is printing money.
- And I had forgotten how FM 51 north out of Decatur is quintessential Texas.
- I'm only going to make one point about Trump's tweets over the weekend as Texas is being devastated: He's a narcissistic, tone deaf moron. Oh, and I forgot to mention he pardoned racist Sheriff Joe late on Friday.
- We've had another Black Hawk crash. Something's weird.
- Never heard of this before:
- I can't say I'm a regular reader of the Bridgeport Index, but this week's edition was good. In addition to a front page story of a petition to remove two members from the Bridgeport Airport Board, editor/publisher Keith Bridwell went off on Bridgeport City Hall and the city council.

It's Friday, Let's Get Out Of Here
Get me this dog!
"I'm not a race horse. I'm a ninja."

I retract that last statment.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts
- After I mentioned Gibson's yesterday, someone reminded me about the old Texas "Blue Laws." You could go to Gibson's, which was one of the few stores opened on Sunday, and there would be sections blocked off because you could not buy certain products on Sunday. That included "clothing, furniture, kitchen utensils, stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, electric fans, washers, dryers, radios, televisions, cameras, hardware, power-driven hand tools, jewelry, silverware, watches, clocks, luggage and musical instruments." That'll make your head spin. And I think I'm right when I say car sales are still prohibited on Sunday because of the remnants of the Blue Laws.
- If the forecasts are correct, Houston is about to be flooded like it has never been flooded before.
- Gov. Abbott has declared 30 counties a disaster area before anything has happened. It's kind of like a Pre-Crime Division.
- Troy Aikman has sold out to the dumbest car salesman who advertises on The Ticket. But he's keeping it real.
- Private plane question from a guy who has no pilot's license and has no intention to get one: If I wanted to fly from Decatur's airport (which I presume is public and tax funded) to, say, a similarly small airport in Florida, can I just do it? Do I have to file a flight plan with someone? Are there any searches or security measures? I remember taking a flight on a private plane in the early 1980s with Mike Simpson (shout out) and we just took off from Decatur and landed in Waco, and I don't recall having to check in with anyone.
- The person who won the lottery called it a "a pipe dream." I thought she used the term incorrectly, but I now think she's right. And the origin of the term is fascinating.
- Bad constable:
- I got through one hour of the 30 for 30 on the Carter Cowboys. My initial reaction is that it is very, very good. That last 30 minutes might make it great. (I loved the old high school game footage from old Texas Stadium and old Baylor Stadium. And the presence of Texas media is a great sideshow.)
- The travel warning from the State Department because of alleged Cartel violence in Cancun and Los Cabos will kill the tourist industry in Mexico. And I kind of think it might be Trump's retaliation for current and former Mexican presidents constantly mocking him.

I don't know about the wind, but the rain down there is going to be insane.
Edit: And my Anti-Pete Delkus Thunder Truck Radar indicates the thing seems to be forming into a pretty good hurricane.
Edit: These are the rainfall predictions. (Disclaimer: They are from Delkus):
Edit @ 12:09 p.m.: This appears to have escalated rapidly.
