Fine Dining Update

Yep. A line for Panchos.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • One thing the Baylor Bears and the Republicans have in common: There is a slight hope for this Fall but, in reality, this is going to be a long four years as they both try to re-invent themselves.
  • Donald Trump's entrance at the convention last night vs. The Undertaker's entrance for wrestling. Who ya got?
  • And it can't be stressed enough: The President in Idiocracy was former "five time ultimate smackdown wrestling champion", President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.
  • I went to bed hearing the pundits say that Melania Trump "knocked it out of the park". I woke up with "she stole it from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech." (Here's the amazing video mashup of the plagiarism everyone is talking about.) How did they screw that up?
  • But her greatest nugget, which makes me smile to no end, was straight out of Rick Astley.
  • And with her great accent, all I could hear from her was, "Must get pesky moose and squirrel." (That's some old man humor for ya -- and, fittingly, I stole that joke.)
  • At this point, the Democrats could probably just shorten their convention to just Hillary walking to the podium, holding up her hand, and saying, "We're good. Thanks."
  • No one puts me over the edge more than Rudy Giuliani. Last night he said, "What I did for New York, Donald Trump will do for America!" What's that? Walk down the streets for a photo op while it burns instead of doing your job?
  •  House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke to the Texas delegation this morning. What about Trump? "Sometime we root for a different team in the same conference," he said.
  • I didn't know Trump had a son named Barron.
  •  Dallas Fire and Rescue has given up the search of trying to locate the body of the SMU officer who reportedly drowned in Turtle Creek.
  • What's the construction project off the square in Decatur (east side - across from the post office and the probation department)?
  • This morning: "Patient crashes ambulance into Dallas warehouse." Two days ago: "Man arrested after taking ambulance on joy ride to Jack in the Box in Old East Dallas."

Republican Convention Off To A Fine Start

Our own Dan Patrick

Edit: Things were much nicer earlier today. And darn near hypnotic!

Edit: Maybe the prayer was a bad omen . . .

Johnny Football Now Looks Like A Movie Villain

I just can't think of which one.

Police and the Media and Guns

It is an interesting dynamic. Why did the Baton Rouge police release a photo of the gun? Why were the Dallas Police silent? Why does conservative Fox News broadcast the photo as it were somehow the target of its viewers scorn (when obviously that is not true and when that station panders to the NRA who is one of its advertisers)?

Up is down. Down it up.

It Begins

Fox News In Midst Of Sexual Harassment Controversy

So what do they do? Send this tweet out.

Why, exactly, is Chris "one lucky guy"?

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Drownings: (1) Firefighter in Grapevine lake, and (2) Three year old at Lake Worth.
  • The Baton Rouge shooter used an AR-15 and served in the U.S. Military. We beginning to see a pattern here?
  • He had a pretty chilling youtube video: “One hundred percent of revolutions, of victims fighting their oppressors, from victims fighting their bullies, one hundred percent have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed. Zero have been successful over simply protesting."
  • I've got a couple of buddies who are convinced that there is an actual revolution attempt coming.
  • Fort Worth PD has gone to mandatory two person units and body armor.
  • The Omni Hotel had a nice sentiment last night but words seems to be ringing hollow lately.
  • In light of potential protests at the Republican National Convention, the Cleveland Police Chief said yesterday, "We planned for almost anything and everything. It’s game time. We are ready for it.” This is exactly what you don't want to say as the leader of the police. When you act like it's a fight - a battle - you'll get a fight or a battle. Chief Brown in Dallas would never say something like that.
  • Texas favored Cruz over Trump in the primary election. It is payback time: Spot where Texas gets to sit at the Republican National Convention this week:
  • The Texas Delegation this morning at breakfast. Cavenders must have had a busy weekend:

  • Speaker Paul Ryan posted a selfie with the interns at Capitol Hill. Spot the minority. Hopefully these kids from poverty and troubled backgrounds will now have an incentive in life:
  • What's up with the furniture in this 60 Minutes interview? Where is that? Liberace's old house?
  • On Friday, there was a failed to coup attempt in Turkey. But after thinking the last person I would want to be is a captured soldier in a failed coup attempt, I got Tired Head with news that the whole thing my have been orchestrated by the Turkey establishment to appear more powerful or that it was planned by a guy in Pennsylvania.
  • In ten years, if anyone ever asks, "What year was it when . . . " just interrupt and say, "2016" and you'll probably be right.
  • Looking at BagOfNothing's blog, he and his family unit ate meals in four different restaurants on Saturday and Sunday in addition to going to a play and a museum and to a mansion on Lake Grapevine. Cue the orchestra music! Oh, I forgot to mention the candlelit massage and designer cake for the wife. We might want to put him on the watch list. We've got some AGB - abnormal guy behavior - going on.

It's Friday. Let's Get Out Of Here.

14 Year Old Kid Tells You Why You Are Poor

You know kid, you kind of make sense.

And, you know what else kid, in seven years you'll wake up on that day that comes after the weekend and say to yourself, "Oh, crap. It's Monday."

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • Wise County is in a flash flood warning until 10:15 a.m. after this morning's storm. Man, it got dark out there during that deluge.
  • Newt yesterday after the tragedy in Nice: “We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported."  I'm more fearful of the Simpletons amongst us than any Muslim who just happens to not have "Holy, Holy, Holy" in the beginning of his hymnal.
  • Presumptive Trump VP nominee Mike Prince from last December: "Calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. are offensive and unconstitutional."
  • Ann Coulter thinks Prince is a bad choice for Trump (who "has twice the IQ of Bush", she said). She would have preferred convicted rapist Mike Tyson as the VP choice. Maybe she didn't understand "Prince" meant Mike Prince instead of the dead Prince. Edit: Another screw up. I'm going back to bed.
  • Bridgeport High School played Nice, Florida in football in Texas Stadium one time. I don't know how to pronounce that Nice. Edit: I've been promptly chastised because the Bulls played Niceville instead of Nice. Yep. That's true. I went to that game. And then I drove through Niceville about three years ago. And I still screwed this up.
  • White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest on Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick; "“Well, I think this does underscore the risk of electing a right-wing radio host to elected statewide office.”
  • I don't even know . . .
  • TCU was voted second in the media Big 12 poll released yesterday. That's high expectations.
  • No one pays to have an ad disguised as a news story more than Blue Bell. Here's Fox 4 and WBAP's just-happen-to-tweet-about-it contributions this morning. (The Star-Telegram joined in as well.)
  • Ages of local deaths in today's Update: 55, 44, 55, 53, and 59.

Firing It Up: Photograph Edition

7.14.2016

Flashback

Considering that this is 1979 and the fact there was massive destruction everywhere, this looks like a staged photograph by the local paper or some such. I doubt troopers would be micro inspecting limb and property damage on their own.

(It also feels like a moment from Mystery Science 3000 but I'm not clever enough to come up with something funny.)
