Noticed At The Courthouse

One For The Ladies

Kind of funny

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • In case you missed it, long time commenter Jarhead cut ties to Wise County by selling his home although he almost had to resort to his old military ways in the process.
  • The Obama campaign should turn this into a commercial. (Don't watch it if you've already got political Tired Head.)
  • Unless there's something in the Update about it, the SWAT report last night must have been a false alarm.
  • I think there are a lot of women on anti-depressants.
  • Channel 8 hit a new low covering the "financial crisis" this morning. They had a report on how the so called credit crunch is impacting North Texas by showing "this empty restaurant." I suspect the footage was shot at 3:00 in the afternoon.
  • Is anyone having trouble getting a loan from Wells Fargo, First Financial, Legend Bank, or the local Decatur bank that I can't think of the name of right now? I seriously doubt it.
  • I could be rich if I could invent a way to make a gallon of milk lighter in weight.
  • The Roanoke lady found dead this weekend was allegedly killed by current and former Northwest ISD students. I told you Wise County should distance from that district.
  • The Ticket had the Fake Jerry Jones on yesterday who proclaimed that the season was now a "rebuilding year" and that he had put a for sale sign out in the front lawn of the new stadium. "The good news is that if you buy it now you can finish out the way you would like."
  • I accidentally dropped off an old T-shirt at the cleaners the other day with my dress shirts. And they dry cleaned it.
  • Being a Careflight helicopter pilot would be a cool job.
  • There were only four Texas Republicans who voted for the bailout yesterday, and one of them was ours: Kay Granger. Remember that the next time she makes her once-every-two-year visit to Wise County.
  • Had a DPS lawyer in Fort Worth see me in the parking lot yesterday and asked me when I sold my "big truck." I've never owned a "big truck."
  • It drives me nuts when Obama and McCain make reference to "helping Main Street and not just Wall Street."
  • Check out Bristol and Levi's wedding registry at J.C. Penney's. There's some odd stuff on there. (Thanks emailer Keith)
  • The Rangers played at the same time as the Cowboys on Sunday. The DFW numbers: 7,470 homes watched the baseball game while 898,890 homes watched the Redskin fiasco. CPS should be called upon to visit those 7,470 homes.
  • Hey, now.
  • I knew the University of North Texas had 77 points scored on them by Rice last weekend, but I didn't know that the 77 points came in only three quarters. I'm telling you, Todd Dodge would rather be back at Southlake even if meant getting is Hummer scratched.
  • There are few things that suck the life force out of me more than Chris Berman. Last night on ESPN he made a reference to the Saint's Deuce McAllister who "jumped off the Tallahassee Tallahatchie Bridge." He's been doing that stupid schtick for years, but on this occasion he was referencing a song that came out 41 years ago.

SWAT Team

Getting very unconfirmed reports of a SWAT Team responding in to a situation in Wise County. Anyone?

Fire at FM 51 and 287 This Evening

Yeah, the phone pic is blurry. And I really can't think of a section of 51 and 287 that is this underdeveloped. But if someone sends me a pic and says it's news, by golly I'm going to run with it. I think that's how Drudge got started.

It's The End Of The World

Or, if you happen to catch some of CNN this afternoon, that's what they would tell you. Man, they kept screaming "this is the biggest point drop in history!!!" Uh, that percentage thing might be a little important. I think we'll survive. But I did learn something, and I probably should have known this, the "big board" with the DOW number on it at the stock exchange actually changes after the closing bell. When I heard the "ding a ling ding a ling" the market was down "only" by 594 points. But it continued to drop for the next nine minutes. Edit: Make that 14 minutes. I even had to update the graphic, above. In other news. oil dropped $10 a barrel to day to $96.63

Monday Morning Pick Me Up Confusion

This pic comes from celebrity site because the chick in the black is Audrina Patridge. Honestly, I see her name all the time but have no idea who she is --- if I had to guess, I'd say she's Keith Partridge's daughter but I'm pretty sure I'd be wrong for more than a couple of reasons. But this pic makes its way to The Blog way too early on a Monday because of the gal in the red. Man, look at those tattoos. I can handle one on the lower back or maybe even on the back of the neck, but this is just over the top. A perfectly good body wasted - maybe we have too much freedom in this country after all.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • I bailed out of the presidential debates after about 15 minutes of Friday night. It drove me insane - neither guy can answer a direct question.
  • I want Congress to reject the newest version of the $700 billion bailout package.
  • The CIA was advertising for agents this morning on The Ticket.
  • Foul play is suspected in the death of a woman found in her home in Roanoke. I'm always compelled to look at the street in Google's Street View. Here.
  • Just heard on the radio that we have a motorcycle related death in Arlington on Cooper street. Edit: Fox 4 has a photo.
  • The Cowboy lose while Wade Phillips has a look of bewilderment every time the camera cuts to him.
  • In this day and time, I don't think any NFL game qualifies as a "rivalry".
  • Tony Romo is 1 and 3 against the Redskins.
  • I was in the old Bridgeport High School auditorium on Saturday night for the first time, I believe, since my Senior baccalaureate ceremony. That was fun to just look around the old place. And do they still have baccalaureate ceremonies?
  • While you were sleeping: Wachovia Bank was taken over by another bank. Good grief. But I always thought Wachovia had a great idea in making each branch bank look exactly the same but with a unique design -- if that makes any sense.
  • I jogged outside on Saturday morning and had a "stop the run" cramp at mile marker four.
  • Microsoft's "I'm a PC" commercial would be more effective if everyone said "I use Windows."
  • Matt Bryant, the place kicker for Tampa whose three month old son died on Wednesday and who was buried in Texas on Saturday, went 3 for 3 in his game yesterday. I can't imagine.
  • I saw a police car blow through downtown Boyd at a reckless speed on Saturday night. (It looked like a local city police car instead of a deputy or trooper but I didn't get a good look at the rocket going by.)
  • College football quick hits: Oklahoma is great, A&M almost got beat by a horrible Army team, The Texas/OU game is sizing up to be a barn burner, Nick Saben (coaching Alabama) is a miracle worker, and here is the hit of the year.
  • I finished The Innocent Man. It was fantastic and should be required reading for every prosecutor. (And I was surprised to learn that the unrepentant DA in that case - who is still amazingly the DA - sued author John Grisham for defamation. I was not surprised to learn that the lawsuit was thrown out just last week.)
  • In the beginning of The Innocent Man, you learn that that the Man was tried twice for rape and found "not guilty" before being wrongfully convicted of murder. There aren't many people in this world that have heard "not guilty" from a jury one time. Almost no one has heard it twice.
  • Paul Newman was married to the same woman for over 50 years. And that was his second marriage. And I've never eaten any of his salad dressing.
  • I like Rihanna's Disturbia.
  • Heather Locklear was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of drugs - an arrest which gave rise to a book in photo that looks like a hot girl on drugs. (Little known fact: You can be guilty of DWI after using prescription drugs even if you haven't had a drop of alcohol.)
  • Five years ago last weekend I snapped my Achilles tendon.

Hey, Now

I was wondering when this video was going to show up. (Thanks emailer.)

Pulled From The Comments

I would like to know the address. Seriously. (And I've been incorrectly referring to the book as An Innocent Man.)

Decatur Homecoming Parade . . .

... just came by my office.

This Girl Would Like To Let You Know . . .

. . . if you don't watch the presidential debate tonight, that it is homecoming for Bridgeport and Decatur. And it's Lady's Night at Frilly's.

Ex Evil Empire Runner A Free Man

Uh, the problem is that both DWIs were misdemeanors and you don't need a grand jury's approval to prosecute a misdemeanor. Story. (Thanks for the text, Thomas)

The Things I Didn't Know

The Fort Worth Court of Appeals issued an opinion late yesterday regarding a medical malpractice lawsuit against Wise Regional Health Systems f/k/a Decatur Community Hospital. Since the opinion doesn't use the word "indictment" in it, it's a little hard for me to follow. But the issue appears to be whether the Plaintiff has made allegations that allow the hospital and employees to be sued even though they are normally protected by sovereign immunity. Which gives rise to something I didn't know: ""There is no dispute that Appellant Wise Regional . . . constitutes a governmental entity." The hospital is a governmental entity? Really? I can't believe I didn't know that. Insomnia curing opinion is here. (pdf)

Friday Morning Random Thoughts

  • While you were sleeping, Washington Mutual was seized by the FDIC and then sold to JPMorgan Chase & Co. Holy cow.
  • Everyone is referring to that as a "bank failure" which makes it the largest "bank failure" in the history of the United States.
  • Being the voice of Big Tex would be a beating. And that guy is kind of creepy based upon a live interview I saw this morning.
  • I slept right through my alarm this morning. That never happens.
  • From a political standpoint, this economic mess can't have come at a worst time for the Republicans since the masses, rightly or wrongly, blame the incumbent party. (Did I already write this?)
  • Grisham's An Innocent Man (I'm 60% through it) is absolutely fantastic. And the fact that it focuses on a small county's criminal justice system is like candy for me (if I really liked candy.)
  • The smoking hot Jillian Barberie is a shocking 42 today.
  • Here's the pretty detailed press release from the U.S. Attorney regarding the arrest of the former Boyd pastor on child pornography charges. (Not sure why the feds need to get involved.) But you might want to rethink your life if you actually choose the email address of: girlpedolover@yahoo.com. Can you make it any more obvious?
  • I wonder if IHaveAMethLabInBoyd@yahoo.com is available? (Edit: I added this line after this post originally went up. At the same time, MzChief made an almost identical joke in the comments. Neither one of us saw the other do the same schtick. Frightening.)
  • Ugh: Last night I stick the ol' gas nozzle in the gas tank, begin filling, and go into the convenience store for something else (although I always fear coming back out and seeing that I have flooded the Southwest Proper with gasoline.) But, after spending a few minutes in the store, I come back out to see that the filling had malfunctioned after 1.07 gallons. Fail.
  • I got an automated email last night from the web site I told you about a couple of weeks ago that alerts you to close sporting events. It read, "Oregon State 21 #1 USC 0 - Halftime - Potential Upset - ESPN Ch. 206." I didn't even know the game was going on, and I was able to switch over and watch what turned out to be a an actual upset.
  • And Oregon State was lead by a 5'6" running back. Go little guy.
  • Fox 4 Megan Henderson told the TV world this week that that she has been diagnosed with "toasted skin syndrome." That's about all I know, but I'm speculating like a mad man.

Thursday Afternoon Pick Me Up

Once again, I try to bring people together in a time of crisis and uncertainty. (Double thanks emailer.)
