Cue Green Day: "Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road"

I'm as sentimental as the next guy (really) but this announcement was a foregone conclusion. OU/Texas will follow and it wouldn't surprise me if the State Fair doesn't move to Arlington as well (or somehow Six Flags becomes the State Fair in October.)

The Cotton Bowl is dead. I love that old place (there aren't many of us that can say we saw the Cowboys play there), but time moves on.

Big News That Ain't

I'm not sure I've ever seen more media apathy than over the coverage of the "Christ's Family Burial Tomb Found" (Including Son) story. It got a huge segment on NBC's The Today Show and was featured on The Drudge Report, but it barely made a note on CNN. The best I can tell, Yahoo News completely ignores it. [Edit: Yahoo appears to be covering the story on the morning after it broke.]

How can we not trust the director of Titanic? I mean, he made up that Jack Dawson character but that can be forgiven.

Breaking News

Chili's in Decatur was closed at lunch due to a hot water heater "breaking."

There's a lot going on there.

Tragic news

The hot water heater at Chili's has broken causing it to be closed for lunch. The humanity!

Academy Awards

I'm barely watching it . . . I think someone just won an award for Best Key Grip but I'm not sure. (It took 72 minutes before one of the Big Six awards was given.)

Ellen DeGeneres is kinda funny. Will Farrell's bit was very funny. Celine Dion can sing. Jack Nicholson is bald. Al Gore was so robbed (of the presidency, not the Oscar.)

But, that being said, nothing is more amazing than the Silhouette of the Human Bodies that is being pulled off tonight. (It can't be explained, you'd have to see it.) Greatness.

And Penelope Cruz's sister is hotter than she is.

One More Cowtown Marathon Observation

I read in the Dallas Morning News: - The winning female for the marathon was a 31 year old gal who, on February 5th, had surgery for cervical cancer. - The men's winner is the head basketball coach for Krum who didn't get home until 1:00 a.m. the night before the race because of a playoff game. (I hate to admit it, but I made eye contact with him as I saw him being carted into the medical tent after the race. It's embarrassing because at the time I thought he was a 1/2 marathoner that had finished behind me but had cramped up thereby needing "medical attention." I'm an idiot.)

Final Half Marathon Thoughts

- 7:30 is too early of a start time - I'm sooo glad we started at 7:30 before the wind really kicked up - That being said, there were a couple of times I could have sworn I wasn't moving when running into the wind. It was horrible. I was looking for a fat person to run behind. - Odd sight: A crane/cherry picker extended over the runners at the one mile mark with a fake priest in it with a sign that read "Blessing of the Feet." - We ran by the high tone Rivercrest country club and I saw a well dressed guy hitting an approach shot. I so wanted to yell, "A thousand bucks says you slice!" - I did something I've never done before in a race: I stopped for about 15 seconds at a water station. It was at the 10 mile mark and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it. My thighs were on fire. - The final 300 yards is supposed to be a great moment and time of reflection as the Sense Of Accomplishment kicks in. My was ruined by some middle aged woman (who I didn't know) slapping me on the back as she ran beside me yelling "Isn't this great! Isn't this great!" and then looking at me like I'm supposed to answer her.

Fastest Wise County Time I Could Find

The crazy assistant prosecutor, who ran 15 miles home to Alvord this week, also turned in a blazing fast time at the Half Marathon.

So Rethinking

It's 5:30 on Saturday morning.
The Cowtown Half Marathon starts at 7:30.
I'm up because I intend on running it.
But I want to go back to bed.

(Closest thing to a haiku I can pull off.)

Edit: I did it. More later. Getting dark. See tunnel. See white light. Uh oh.

Edit #2: A friend sent me this pic and asked me if I saw the Sheriff running. Heck, he might be in that pic somewhere.

Edit #3: Race Results

Calling All HS Soccer Volunteers

"Allie Stange [of the Denison Yellowjackets] scored seven goals, five in the first half, as Denison destroyed Decatur, 21-0, in District 4-4A action Thursday night at Munson Stadium. "Decatur (1-9, 0-6) played a man short from the start and the final eight minutes down another player after its goalie was injured. Denison (3-9, 2-4) took advantage, opening up a 12-0 lead behind Stange’s first-half outburst." Started without enough players? Source
