Stars And Bars

You know, the best part of the Messenger is buried in the "Inside Wise" section of the Editorial/Letter to the Editors pages. I learned from this weekend's issue that the County Commissioners will hear from some guy from Bowie on Monday who "wants to commissioners' approval to fly the 'national' flag (as opposed to the battle flag) of the Confederate States of America on the courthouse flagpole." Delicious. (Various flags of the Confederacy are here)

A Little Wacky

I watched the documentary Grizzly Man this weekend. It was about the the life and events of Timothy Treadwell, a 40+ year old man who lived for thirteen summers in Alaska among grizzly bears. He videotaped about 100 hours of his trips until he was eaten by one of the bears. The guy was a freak but it was pretty darn good. He spent most of the time talking to himself, the bears, and foxes. Very odd. (The morbidly curious viewer - like me - will be disappointed to learn there is an audio of the final deadly attack that the documentary refused to include.)

Crazy College Kids

On Saturday morning the news broke that a deadly poison called Ricin had possibly been found in a dorm at the University of Texas. Today we learned that it was not Ricin after all. All that aside, this was a very funny sign at last nights Texas - Kansas basketball game.

More Car Crashes

Another video clip of a police chase gone wrong. (Here's the amazing part, look how the vehicle almost ends up on top of him but stops in an amazing sort of way). Link.

Nip It. Nip It In The Bud.

Don Knotts has died. I loved him in The Andy Griffith Show and hated his character on Three's Company. And the old movies (i.e. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken) would be funny even if released today.

I Love Train Wrecks

From the very boring Dallas Morning News' Sports Blog: Todd Archer reports from the NFL combine: Bill Parcells was having lunch with super agent Drew Rosenhaus. Hmmmm. Terrell Owens anyone? Let the rumors fly. That would be great stuff. (Now back to watching 300 pound guys run 40 yard dashes at NFL Combine in Indianapolis on the NFL Channel - That's Channel 212 on DirecTV).

Let 'Em Go

The jury in the Dena Schlosser capital murder trial (the baby arm case) begin deliberations again this (Saturday) morning. It's the third day of deliberations. They have already told the judge on Thursday that they were hopelessly deadlocked, and "no one is going to change their decision," but the judge ordered them to continue deliberating. It's time to let them go. If there is a verdict now, there is to great of a risk that one or more of the jurors has simply given up and wants to go home.

I've Never . . .

been more confused.

Perhaps This Is Why The War Isn't Going Real Well

"Don't ask, Don't tell" was supposed to be a pretty good army policy. The government just forgot to add, "And don't shoot a video and post it on the web!". Oh, no.

Soon To Be A UIL Sport

I'm a little slow on this one, but did you see that thirteen GIRLS were arrested in McKinney for fighting during the high school cafeteria. Remember, ladies, Emily Post says you must always follow a right hook with a left jab. And eye gouging is considered impolite.

More Britney Obsessive Coverage

I'm not sure what is more intriguing about this photo. The frumpiness? The word on the tank top? The tank top itself? The baby being farmed out?
