On September 25, 2016, Fernández died in a pre-dawn boating crash when the 32-foot boat, named ꓘaught Looking, that he was piloting was speeding at 65 mph and struck a north rock jetty off Miami Beach, Florida. The U.S. Coast Guard found the boat at about 3:00 a.m.
