• This is a mess.  The State, in the middle of a criminal trial, appealed a judge's ruling, and it took a year for the appellate court to make a decision. Throughout the appeal, the jury was "on call" to return to court at any time.  Once the appellate court ruled against the State, they just gave up and dismissed the case. The judge then paid each juror for the year of service.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

The Republican National Convention opened in Cleveland and many delegates, including those from Texas, were having trouble coming to grips with the fact that Trump would be the nominee. Later in the week, Ted Cruz would be a speaker and refuse to endorse him.

• Despite being promised that Iran's war capabilities had been "obliterated" time and time again, the war really cranked up over the weekend. 
• On Friday, two American servicemen were killed: Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, and First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii.
